"Do you believe in love at first sight? Or should I walk past you again?"

I tried in vain to stifle a gasp as a sudden highly-amused voice shook me out of my reverie. I turned around and had a fleeting glimpse of light brown curly hair, soft mahogany eyes crinkled with supressed laughter and grinning pouty lips before I was crushed in the tight embrace of my oldest best friend.

"Jin!" I squealed into his pink shirt covered chest.

"Oldest?" he frowned. "Do I look old to you? Look! Such young youthful features," he gestured to his tanned face.

I rolled my eyes. Typical Seokjin attitude. I chose to ignore his self-obsessed comments like always. "Shut up and hug me," I grumbled.

I sighed in his soft arms and played with the hairs on the nape of his neck, twirling the velvety strands around my long fingers. I could feel his warm laboured breaths fanning my exposed back. My eyes snapped open.

"Crap!" I exclaimed when I realised that I was standing in just my bra and trousers. I heard him chuckle.

"You want to put on a shirt, sweetie?" he grinned.

Laughing.

Always laughing.

He was always laughing! Sometimes it just made me want to empty the ice-cold contents of my bottle onto his head and watch him squirm. He snorted.

I grabbed a book from my study table and whacked his back repeatedly, watching satisfied as he stumbled around blindly. "Stop. Being. So. Happy!" And he guffawed when I said that. The inclination to stuff my sock in his mouth was growing by the minute. I tossed the unlucky notebook carelessly on my bed and huffed with my arms on my waist as Jin knocked into chairs around my cluttered room, laughing his ass off. I plucked a grey shirt out of my sparsely-filled closet and slid it on, exhaling as I heard his usual loud and screechy sniggers.

His reflection on the dark window smiled broadly at me.

I scowled.

"You look tired," he observed, assessing my weary silver-grey eyes and slouching posture.

"Exams," I complained. "They're ruining my life."

"You have an eidetic memory!"

"Yes, I do," I said nodding. "I need to pretend like I am studying," I added when he opened his mouth.

"They didn't give up yet?" he growled lowly.

I shook my head and flopped onto the bed.

"You know...," he started. "I have found some more of us. They could just toss the whole of your school board into the sea and make it look like an accident."

I stroked his large palm. "Thanks, but no thanks. I'll sleep when my friends finish studying. Shouldn't be too long now," I said, glancing at the digital clock reading 2 a.m.

He didn't reply.

"So you found more?"

He nodded excitedly. "Three. A fire-thrower, an invisible chick and a coffee machine."

"Coffee machine?" I snorted.

"The guy can sprout coffee out of his nostrils!" he exclaimed defensively.

"Powerful," I commented thoughtfully.

"What, making coffee?" he asked wide-eyed.

I rolled my large eyes. "The fire one and the invisibility one."

"Yeah. It is a wonder they managed to stay hidden so long. Sarah, the girl, is invisible like all the time but the boy has a temper as hot as his fire. Name's Yoongi."

I grinned. "He sounds friendly."

Jin rested his chin on his palms. "Oh, you don't know. I had to carry aloe vera everywhere to soothe my burnt skin!" He pulled his shirt off to reveal impressive burns on his toned stomach and broad shoulders. I reached forward before I realised what I was doing and touched the red and blistered skin.

Jin winced and I drew my inquisitive fingers back. "Sorry."

Silence. Jin hummed as I dug around in the medicine cabinet, trying to find the last of my most expensive and rare pastes.

"So where'd you store them?" I asked, as I triumphantly drew out the tiny silver bottle.

"I just tol-," His eyes fell on the little bottle in my hands. "No." He scrambled around for his shirt which had disappeared under the bed. "No, you're not using that for me!"

"If it gets infected you will be in big trouble," I snapped. "Sit. Down."
Jin grimaced and muttered a few dozen obscenities under his breath. I brushed my fingers over the gel and gently dabbed at his wide chest. Screwing the bottle shut, I placed it meticulously in its designated position at the far end of the shelf.
Both of us stared as the various burns and cuts disappeared from Jin's body. He looked up and his deep brown eyes met mine. "Doesn't that thing have an expiry date or something?"

Way to ruin the mood with dumb statements.

"It is magic. Magic doesn't expire, you dingus."

"The person performing the magic does."

My carefree expression vanished with that statement. "Shit," he groaned. "Sorry, I shouldn't have said that," he muttered quietly. I let out a sad smile, the incident still weighing heavily on my mind. He stretched ahead and drew me into his arms, gently rocking me back and forth.

I didn't say anything. What did one reply with when thousands of dead people were indirectly brought up? I yanked my phone which was sitting precariously on the armchair and checked my messages.

"My head hurts, I can't do this anymore. I'll try studying in the morning."

I composed the message and turned to Jin. "Does this sound like something a stress-filled kid might say?"
He just shrugged and I rolled my eyes at his unhelpful response. I locked the phone, closed my eyes and leaned back as Jin's arms tightened around me.

The last thing I was aware of was my best friend's soft lips as he brushed it against my forehead while tucking me under the bed covers. I heard his faint whisper.

"Goodnight, Joan."
