kinsley slipped on a pair of grey nike sweats and then the hoodie that caitlin gave to her a few days ago. she put her hair back into a clip. she didn't bother putting on makeup and just put on deodorant and perfume. she slipped on her air forces and picked up her backpack. might as well get some school work done.
caitlin texted her that she's outside by the time that kinsley was done with everything. "i'm going with caitlin to starbucks! text me if you want anything!" kinsley shouted closing the door and running down the hall before stefani had time it even comprehend her words and bomber her with questions.
even after a few days the teams still have to get used to kinsley and caitlin not bickering twenty four seven. they still bicker, that hasn't changed. they still do pranks on each other but it isn't as bad as it used to be. and a new thing now is that they hang out without the others around.
"did i wake you up sleeping beauty?" caitlin asked as kinsley entered her car. kinsley simply glared at the taller girl who laughed and handed her the aux. kinsley happily grabbed it and put on her 'car jams' playlist.
on the ride to starbucks caitlin kept on sneaking glanced towards kinsley. whenever the cheerleader would pick up her phone to change the song and it was on a red light, caitlin took this opportunity to look at her. caitlin would be a big liar if she said she didn't love seeing kinsley in her hoodie.
once they arrived to starbucks kinsley couldn't help but laugh. her mind was replaying the time when, not even a week ago, she dumped ice water at seven in the morning down caitlin's back. kinsley continued giggling even while sipping her ice coffee and pulling out her computer.
"what are you working on?" caitlin asked dropping her pencil.
kinsley sighed deeply and pushed her computer away. "absolutely nothing." kinsley said causing caitlin to raise her eyebrows in confusion. "my english teacher wants us to write an essay about the difference between platonic love and romantic love. the project first started off by him telling us to write romantic scenarios but i barely even wrote three and now he wants us to write this. i hate that my teacher is happily married and in the honeymoon stage."
"kenny, you can't be serious." caitlin said leaning forward. kinsley squinted her eyes at the basketball player. "have you really not experienced anything romantic?" kinsley shook her head causing caitlin to laugh. kinsley rolled her eyes and kicked the taller girl underneath the table.
"it's not that i haven't, caitlin. it's just that whenever i do it just makes me cringe so bad. like there was this one time during sophomore year when i went on a double date with my friend and then this boy started like cuddling with me. and i was tried so i caved in and fell asleep and then, tell me why, i felt him kiss my head. i puked in my mouth." kinsley said shivering and shaking her head. caitlin only laughed even more.
kinsley then started laughing along with caitlin. "i'm serious! like whenever a boy does something romantic to me or with me, i cringe so badly. it's like i physically cannot be with a man. like i find them attractive but i just can't." kinsley said crossing her arms over her chest and biting down her lip. "girls on the other hand, that's a whole different story."
"what do you mean?" caitlin asked nervously. her hands were underneath the table so kinsley couldn't see the way that caitlin was anxiously picking on her cuticles.
"i don't know. i mean, i've never dated a girl before but girls are different. there was this one girl," kinsley said thinking back to her high school years. she smiled fondly at the memory and sat up straighter. "junior year of high school. she was a basketball player actually, and i was a cheerleader. we got along very well and i suddenly felt different around her. it wasn't like how i felt around madison or any other of my girl friends. it was like how i'm supposed to be for a boy. we kissed once, at a party. but then she moved away so we never had our opportunity to be anything."
"did it feel right?" caitlin asked biting the inside of her cheek.
"yeah. it felt better than a boy. i didn't cringe at all, i enjoyed every second of my time with her." kinsley said blinking away her tears. she remembered vividly when she was depressed for an entire two months when she left without a single word or a single trace. kinsley texted her everywhere but she wouldn't respond. after that kinsley got into her four year relationship with a boy.
"would you do it again if you had the chance? to do it right." caitlin asked reaching forward for a piece of kinsley's sandwich. kinsley swatted her hand away and broke the sandwich in half giving her half.
"i would. i one hundred percent would. i just hate labels you know, like my friends sometimes ask what i am but i hate labeling myself." kinsley said taking a bite out of her sandwich. caitlin nodded her head agreeing with her more than ever. "anyways, if only my teacher would let me write about my ex boyfriend cheating on me with someone twice our age i would so get an a plus."
this made caitlin chock on her sandwich and hold onto the table like her life depended on it. kinsley made a gross face as caitlin looked around with her eyes widen. caitlin swallowed down the food that got stuck in her throat and took a huge sip from her pink drink.
"you good?" kinsley asked tilting her head to the side. "because if you're going to die while chocking let me know so that i don't get charge with murder. you're not worth me going to jail."
"jesus, kenny." caitlin said coughing a little bit more to get some of the dust of the sandwich out or in her stomach.
"i thought you knew." kinsley said but then remembered that they just become friends five days ago. caitlin hardly knows anything about kinsley's personal life and kinsley knows absolutely nothing about caitlin in general.
"i think we should start with simple facts about ourselves before we go deeper." caitlin said taking another bite out of her sandwich but this time chewing fast just in case kinsley says something else that might cause her to chock.
"okay, um, favorite color." kinsley said shrugging her shoulders.
"yellow." caitlin said without hesitation. kinsley rolled her eyes and laughed. "you?"
"mhm, pink." kinsley said not having a single ounce of shame that pink is her favorite color. caitlin clark and kinsley chung went on for about the next half and hour doing nothing but getting to know each other. kinsley closed her computer and put it away along with caitlin who put her own stuff away.
turns out that they have much more in common than they expected. kinsley started to wonder that if she forgive caitlin earlier on, would they have close friends by now? would the unwanted tension still be there or would it just not exist at all?
whatever the answer was she's glad that they're here now. that after their years of rivalry has come to end. but now the start of something new was only beginning and kinsley doesn't know if she should be scared of happy. she does know is that, caitlin clark makes her feel things and she likes it.
