Review Request Rules
The group reviews done by the Gotta Read Em All Club are done for books that are chosen by our fanfic recommender, with only a few exceptions, such as when these reviews are offered as a tournament prize. Group reviews can not be requested by anyone except a member of the club unless we announce otherwise.
Anyone who requests a review will be given what we call a private review. This is where one member of the club will read the book and offer something ranging from a few helpful tips to a full review similar to the ones we publish in our review book. The request should be sent to us through PM, and the reviewer will also respond through PM. This is why it is called a private review.
In order for us to accept a book for a private review, three criteria must be met. First, the author must read and agree to all of the rules found in this chapter. Second, the book must be a work of Pokémon fanfiction. Third, the book must follow Wattpad's content guidelines.
If one of our reviewers has agreed to review a book that is later found to break one of these criteria, that reviewer will stop immediately. At that point, it is up to the reviewer to decide whether zie wants to offer any feedback on the portion that was read up until that point or to simply explain to the author why zie is stopping. If the reviewer finds that a book violates Wattpad's content guidelines, we leave it up to zir own judgment for how the situation should be handled in order to maintain the safety of our community. This might include reporting the book to Wattpad.
Private reviews are a free service that we offer to the community, and we never turn down a request if it meets these criteria. This means that all of our critics may be busy with other work at a particular time. We ask that anyone requesting a private review be patient while waiting for a response. Even after a critic decides to take on a review, zie might have many other things going on in zir life that could prevent zir from getting the review done quickly. We encourage those waiting on a reviewer to reach out to zir in a polite way to ask how things are going if there are any concerns about how long it is taking. If there is no response from the critic, the requester should message the Gotta Read Em All Club account about the issue. We may reassign a private review if the original critic can't complete the assignment for any reason.
After the critic has finished writing the private review, it will be read by the GRA admin in order to ensure fairness and good quality. Both the reviewer and the admin will keep the contents of the review confidential and will ensure that it is only shared with the requester unless given permission to do otherwise.
If, however, any person who has received a private review from one of our critics goes on to lie or exaggerate about the contents of the review in a way that is potentially damaging to the reputation of the critic or the club, we reserve the right to publish the review for everyone to see the truth of the matter.
On the other hand, if the person who has received a private review is pleased with the result, zie may feel free to ask us to publish it in our review book. If the critic agrees that it would be suitable for others to read, this will then be called an individual review, which you can find examples of in our review book right now.
We try to give the best service we can to all of those who request a private review. Some authors will be best served with a few helpful tips for improving their stories. Others will be best served with a public individual review that will help them gain the greater exposure that their books deserve. Others can fall at any point in between.
We make the decision based on a combination of what the author of the book asks for and what our critics think would be best. There may be cases where the critic thinks a book is nearly perfect and would be very willing to publish the review, but we do not do so because the author doesn't want it. There may be other cases where the critic decides that the quality of the writing is so poor that the author truly needs to start by making a few essential fixes before any other aspects of the book can even be considered. There may even be cases where a critic stops reading part way through. This should be taken as a sign that a large number of other readers might stop reading at this same point, if not earlier. Even if the book gets better afterwards, it does not matter if no one is left to read it, which is why we believe that it is in fact a service to inform the author of this situation. In these cases, we strongly encourage authors to take the advice that the critic has offered for improving the book, and, if they wish to do so after making improvements, they may request that the critic review the improved version.
There is no payment of any kind required for our review service. We will review incomplete books as well as completed ones.
Any questions? Ask them here. Remember to PM us with your review requests, though, or we may not respond to them at all. Thank you!
