A Competition Where Everyone Can be a Winner

The GRA is happy to announce that we will be hosting a writing tournament this summer!

This competition will have multiple rounds, each one requiring participants to write a one shot. If participants score well enough in comparison to the competition, they will move on to the next round until we have a first, second, and third place winner.

First place will win a group review and an interview from the GRA. Second place will win an individual review and an interview, while third place will receive just an interview. But, if you read the title of this chapter, you might have realized by now that those are not the only prizes to be won!

We at the GRA are always committed to helping writers improve as well as featuring the best of the best, and this tournament was built to accomplish both goals at the same time! Obviously, we hope to review some awesome fanfics from our first and second place winners, but we also hope that everyone who enters our tournament will be a better writer by the end of it (or at least have a one shot or two that could be a serious contender for the Pokémon Watties).

How are we going to accomplish this? Well, we'll be giving the participants brand new prompts that they've never seen before and asking them to write their entries in a set period of time. That means they'll more than likely be submitting first drafts, which, while they definitely can be used as a measure of skill for moving on in the competition, are usually also far from perfect. In order to make our judging as fair and impartial as possible, we'll be asking participants to submit their entries privately (through email or PM) to be posted anonymously in our tournament book, where the judges and the followers can read them all in one handy spot. Then, when the judges are finished, we'll be hosting a livestream in which we discuss the entries and give the results (which will also be posted afterwards). That means that every single participant can get some useful feedback that they can use to edit and polish their one shot before publishing the new and improved version on their own profiles.

We're also offering a very special prize to one lucky participant who DIDN'T win a top three spot: for the first time ever d_s_t_e will edit zir entire full length fanfic *. For anyone who doesn't know, that's the GRA admin, who is also an editor and a reviewer, a past Pokémon Watty Awards judge, and, in the real world, has a bachelor's degree in Writing. She likes to think she's pretty good at correcting errors and providing writing advice. (And, yes, she's also currently referring to herself in the third person because she also wrote this very article).

We're hoping to have about three rounds of competition, but the exact structure and dates will all depend on how many people decide to participate. So please leave a comment below if you want to participate!

We're hoping to start the first round sometime in the next two weeks, and we'll be releasing all the prompts at once so that you can work ahead if you know that you're going to be going on vacation or otherwise unavailable during part of it (you'll have to accept the possibility that you might be eliminated earlier than you thought, but at least you can publish the one shot on your own account).

If you really want to see this tournament happen and not get cancelled due to a lack of participants, please also tag anyone you think would be interested.

And if you like contests but don't have time to write multiple one shots this summer, consider checking out the competition currently being hosted by GenerationsDebut , where you'll have a full two months to write just a single one shot!

Thanks, everyone! We hope to have a great competition!

* The winner of this prize will be chosen at random and can pick any one of zir fanfics to be edited, assuming that it does not include sexually explicit content or anything in violation of Wattpad's content guidelines. No lemons. No X Readers. The fanfic doesn't have to be completed, but dste will only edit as much of the story as is finished at the time the prize is awarded. If the first person whose name is drawn doesn't have a fanfic to be edited or doesn't want it (for some crazy reason), another name will be drawn.
