Chapter 7 NO SYMPATHY

➳ Bo ➳

It was great that my car was unrecognizable. I've had so many offers to brand my car, but I always turned them down. And now, I knew for sure I was right. With this tint job, I couldn't at least sit in my car without being noticed. It was weird that everyone was leaving the café. Did she just kick everyone out? My phone was blowing up with tags in stories from different accounts.

What was her name again? I always had a bad memory for names. Always had a bad memory. Maybe someone in those countless stories mentioned her.

I scrolled through all the tags on social media, watched all the videos and reels. But still didn't catch her name.

I will just pop into the café and order myself some tea. If only I had her phone number. Ugh. Maybe I'll just call the café. Ask them to invite the barista. But how will I know it's her? Okay. Why am I even stressing about this?

Ringing. No one's picking up. Voicemail.
Dialing again.

"Deux Amis café. How can I assist you?" I heard a tired female voice.

"Um, hi. It's, uh, me, I, um, sorry. I forgot what I wanted to say," I answered stammering.

"How can I help you? Is everything okay with you?" In her voice, I ain't feeling no sympathy, more like a slight annoyance.

"I'm Bo, and I'd like to invite you to the park. Or for a walk or something." I decided not to put off asking what I've been wanting to ask for so long.

"Sorry, I'm not quite understanding. Are you sure you called me? You've reached a café. My name is Ava, and I brew coffee with my mom, creating a cozy atmosphere for our guests," she rattled off rehearsed words like the standard phone spiel you hear when you call up some company or organization. "Maybe you've mistaken me for someone else?" She didn't recognize me.

"Ava, yes, yes, it's you! that's right. I'm calling you. I wanted to drop by, but my fans filled up your café. And they all left a few minutes ago. But I..."

"Oh, so it's all your fault then? All because of you? Okay. What's the plan then?" she replied sternly.

"What do you mean by 'plan'?" I gripped the steering wheel, startled by her voice. My heart sank as she was right. All the reels and posts I saw while searching for her mention were childish, crude, tasteless, and unflattering. I'd be furious if I were her.

"You're inviting me for a walk. I'm in. How are we going to hide from your fans?"

"I hadn't thought about that yet. Wasn't sure if you'd agree. Let me pull up to the fire exit, and you can hop in my car. How does that plan sound to you?"
