Chapter 3

"Toriel!" Sans screamed as he barreled down the street. He silently wished that she hadn't gone far or had at least told him where she was going before leaving so he could teleport there instead of running. He stopped a few blocks away to catch his breath and rest his bones which were starting to ache. "T-Toriel please. Where did you go?" he whispered.

Suddenly, from out of the blue, he heard the sound of soft crying. Figuring it had to be Toriel, he followed it into an, unnaturally dark alleyway. "Toriel it's me. It's me, Sans."

But the reply he was expecting, came from someone he didn't expect. "Hello again, Smiley trash bag."

"You little weed. Can't you just screw off?" He turned to face the flower who in turn, spoke back.

"Easy there, Sans. Don't be rude. I've just come to tell you something. SHE will be coming back. Well, she already has. Now it's just counting down the days and if I were you, I'd join that gang thing to prepare. Get ready for it."

"How can I trust you?"

"Fine don't," said Flowey, smirking again, "but don't drag Frisk into this. I may not feel sympathy for you but I do care for Frisk. So prepare to protect them." Flowey disappeared into the ground leaving a pile of upturned dirt as the only reminder that he was there.

Sans felt a chill down his spine as he stared at the ground. He waited a moment, waiting for an attack or for the yellow speck to flicker back into sight but it didn't come. Without warning, he began running the way Toriel had earlier. This time, a far more desperate and quicker run.

"Toriel! T-Toriel please where are you?!" he called. At last, he remembered somewhere that she may be. He teleported just outside of Toriels' door in the underground. He was standing in the familiar snow of the outskirts of Snowdin town. He could hear her weeping on the other side, not knowing what to do, he knocked.

She squealed in surprise on the other side. "Who's there?!"

"Um... Theodore."

There was a long pause until finally, "Theodore who?"

"Theodore wasn't open so I knocked."

"Oh Sans," the door swung open and he was pulled into a tight hug, "what do I do? This is wrong! How could they do this?"

He hugged her back. "I know Tori, but they're getting desperate again. The humans are being cruel."

"But do you think it's right?"

He didn't respond.

"Am... am I wrong, Sans?"

"No Tori. We shouldn't start another war, but... unfortunately we might have too. It's not our fault either."

Toriel pulled away from the hug. "No, you're right. I-I can't be a part of this but you can. Tell me everything they do. I won't be a part of this madness."

"I'll take care of it, Tori. I'll take care of you."

She smiled through tears. "Thank you, Sans. Tea?"

Sans nodded, deciding to not bring up the warning from Flowey for now.
