Chapter Twenty-One: Soul Signals
The target stares at her, daring her to shoot the arrow. Her arms are stiff and her hands wobble at the slightest push of the wind. Her shoes are caked in mud, yet she dares not move her feet from the position they are in.
"Tilt it up a bit, yes there you go. Now relax, Lila. Imagine the arrowhead hitting the center of the target." Clint Barton positions his daughter's arms to where they should be. He squeezes her shoulders one last time and steps back.
Clint's wife, Laura looks up from the hot dog she just placed in the bun. "Who wants mayo on their hot dog?"
"Who puts mayo on a hot dog?" Lila glances at her father with a confused expression, making Clint laugh.
"Two mustards, babe!" Clint turns to his wife and holds up two fingers. His two sons, Cooper and Nathaniel, play catch with a baseball and say something about wanting ketchup. Clint turns his attention back to his daughter.
Bing clink!
Lila's arrow makes a whistle sound as it flies, and pierces through the yellow center of the target. Lila gasps with happiness and and looks up at her dad. Clint yells in amazement, "Alright! Nice shooting, Hawkeye! Go fetch your arrow while I get our lunch."
"Ok, dad!" Lila runs to get her arrow from the target and Clint smiles down proudly at his quiver. He turns his head to see if Laura is done with the food yet, but she isn't there.
"Laura? Babe?!" Clint stares in confusion for a second, thinking that he would have noticed if his wife left to get something from the house.
Now that he's looking around more, he sees that his sons aren't anywhere to be seen either. Their baseball gloves lie in the grass as if forgotten by their owners. Clint sees weird flakes of dust flow in the wind, which makes him more confused. "L-Laura?! Lila! Cooper! Nate! LAURA!"

~One year and twenty-two days since the snap~
"And if you set it up right, you can take aim and flick your fingers to make it fly." Tony Stark sits at the main table in the lounge of the Guardians' spaceship. He made a paper football out of some silver foil he found, and is now trying to teach Nebula how to play.
Tony flicks the football with his fingers, but Nebula jerks away from the foil. Tony reaches forward and takes the football back. "No no, you have to keep the goal set up for me so I can try and score. Don't worry, I'm just showing you how it works."
This time Nebula stays still, holding her fingers up to represent a goal. Tony flicks the football again, and makes it between her fingers. "And I just scored. Now it's your turn to try and get a point."
They play the game for awhile, each scoring as many points as the other. Nebula starts to get good at the game, and she manages to tie it up. Tony tells her that the next point wins. He misses on his next attempt, leaving the win open for Nebula. The daughter of Thanos takes the silver football and flicks it with her fingers, scoring a perfect goal.
"See, there, you won. Fair game." Tony reaches out his hand for her to shake, but Nebula hesitates. She's never really had a good father figure, so she is shocked by the game's outcome.
Nebula shakes Tony's hand. Out of all the people, she's glad she got stuck with him on the ship. "That was... fun."
"Yeah, well, you're lucky I'm the most fun person in the universe or you'd be very bored." Tony does his best to smile, even though it's proving to be difficult. "I'm going to record another message."
Tony stands up and makes his way to the bridge of the ship. There, he finds his ripped up Iron Man helmet still in the center of the control room. He sits down in front of it and turns it on with one shaky hand.
"Is this thing on?" Tony taps the helmet on the forehead, helping it turn on all the way. "Hey, Miss Potts, if you find this recording don't post it on social media. It's going to be a real tear-jerker. It's day twenty-two after the first full year of the snap. Miss blue robot and I ran out of resources four days ago that we were able to scavenge off of that dead planet."
Tony thinks for a second on how he got all those resources. Nebula and him spent an entire year looking around every inch of the planet Titan for anything they could use. After a year was up, they decided to get on the ship and try to head for civilization. It's been twenty-two days that they have been stuck on this ship.
"My infection has run its course and is no longer a problem thanks to Nebula. You'd like her. She's only a tad sadistic. She helped me kick start the ship so we could get this thing off the ground, but the fuel depleted and oxygen will run out tomorrow morning. There is nothing more terrifying than staring out into the empty void that surrounds you, but we made a note to not think about it too much." Tony finds himself rubbing the scar on his side that he got from the stab wound on Titan. He stops rubbing it in fear that it will open again.
"The way I try to distract myself is by thinking about you. I love you, and I hope you're not..." Tony pauses, not wanting to finish his thought. "But I can't lose hope, and you shouldn't too. I'll be alright. I miss you. I'm going to lie down now."
Tony's voice starts to fade away at the end. He's starting to lose his strength, the lack of food and water starting to finally take over. He manages to turn off the helmet and lay down on his side. Nebula comes over and gently lifts him up onto the captain's seat so that he's more comfortable.
Nebula feels herself ache for Tony. She doesn't want to lose the person she became unintentionally attached to in the past year and twenty-two days. However, she knows there is nothing she can do.

I haven't gotten anything. By now, I thought I would have gotten a vision on what happens in Endgame. I haven't seen the movie in a dream, nor a trailer of some kind. Just the title of the movie, Avengers Endgame. I wonder if I'll even get a vision.
"(Y/n)?" Someone knocks on my door. It sounds like Steve.
I slip on my shirt, finishing my outfit, and open the door for him. "What is it, Cap? Something wrong?"
"We are going to have another search for resources. I know it's dark out, but we just got a call from some government officials to transport some metal and rubber. You good to be by yourself at the compound?" Steve asks and I nod. This happens often - Steve and the others have to go out late at night and they leave me behind. I used to go with them, but now I stay back and protect the facility.
Suddenly, my chest feels like it's getting crushed. I gasp and fall to my knees, grabbing my shirt at where my heart should be. So many emotions run through my body, but I know they aren't mine. Someone is dying.
I look down at my chest to see something glowing orange through my shirt. It fades away and the pain stops. I look up at Steve to see his face filled with concern. He kneels down to my height and grips my shoulders. Right when the last of the light is extinguished, a name pops into my head.
Standing up quickly, I back up away from Steve and say, "Tony is dying."
I use the Space Stone's powers to make a portal and transport me to the planet Titan, leaving Steve behind. The planet is exactly how it looked when I was last here, but now even more lifeless. I look around the entire planet, using the Space Stone's powers to help me, but I find no sign of Tony or Nebula.
Beginning to get a bit scared, I try to concentrate on the Soul Stone's powers to try and find Tony's location. Nothing happens. "Stupid Soul Stone! You worked just a couple minutes ago!"
My chest starts glowing orange again and the pain clenches tightly, but I hold my ground. Finally, I got it to work! However, instead of finding Tony, I find someone else.
I don't care who it is, I just want to see them. I want them to find me. The Soul Stone has never acted this way for me before, so I do the only thing I can think of. I channel all my thoughts and emotions to send a signal to whoever's soul I'm connecting to.
The orange glow fades, and I start to panic again. "No no no! Agh, don't stop now! Darn, I thought I was going to be able to contact someone."
"Hello?" A voice cuts through my mumbling and I quickly turn around. Relieved beyond belief, I smile when I see Carol Danvers standing there still glowing orange. "Are you alright, Miss?"
I only nod at first because of my lack for words. Finally, I find my voice after a couple seconds. "My name is (Y/n), and I need your help. There's a human man stranded in space with an alien girl, but I don't know where they are."
Carol's fists tighten, knowing this is urgent. She takes something round off her belt and tosses it to me. "Put that on. We are going to go look for them."
I look at the item in my hands and see it's her red space helmet. My eyes widen for a second, but I get out of my shock quickly and put it on. My (h/c) hair gets pushed up into a mohawk, which actually feels kind of cool. A see-through mask forms over my mouth so I can breathe in space. Carol tells me to hold onto her shoulders, so I grip on tightly as she takes off.
Carol shoots through outer space with great speed, even with me on her shoulders. The Infinity Stones' powers seem to be keeping my body from freezing in the vacuum of space, which I think is very neat. I navigate Carol around the void, looking for any sign of Tony.
A lingering feeling stirs inside of me. It's like my soul is telling me where to go, where to find Tony. After a whole hour, I finally spot something big blocking my view of a moon. The feeling in my chest enhances, and I'm sure that the thing I'm staring at is the Guardians' ship.
"You sure that's it?" Carol stops flying just a bit away from the ship.
I try to sound confident in my response. "Positive. It's the same shape of the ship that Star Lord drives. Let's approach the front and see if we can find anyone in the control room. Hopefully they won't think we are enemies."
"You know, you'd make a great war strategist." Carol smiles and looks over her shoulder. I blush at the compliment and I'm thankful that the metal of her helmet covers my cheeks.
"Thanks, but I'm no match for you or the Kree Star Force." Carol laughs at my comment and crosses her arms.
"The Kree are imbeciles." With that said, Carol slowly flies up to the front of the ship.
The structure is massive, but it looks dark and dead. It's not moving anywhere and all the lights are off. There's no sign of life at all. In order to see the interior better, Carol makes herself glow. The light shines bright around her and I peek over her shoulder to see none other than Tony Stark sitting in the captain's seat, shielding his eyes from the light.
"That's him. Can you help get this ship to Earth?" I ask Carol.
"Of course. You should board it, and I'll carry all of you to Planet C-53." I nod at Carol's suggestion and use the Space Stone's powers to teleport into the ship.
"(Y-y/n)? Is... that... you?" Tony asks, breathing heavily between each word. I smile sadly and nod, walking toward him and putting a hand in his shoulder gently.
"You!" I turn around at the noise and see Nebula standing there, pointing her sword at me.
I put my hands up in a surrendering motion. Just then, the ship starts moving because Carol is beginning to take it to Earth. It takes a moment, but Nebula calms down. I explain to her and Tony everything that happened and how I got the rest of my powers. I explain how I found them with the help of Carol, and how it was the Soul Stone that told me Tony was in danger.
After a couple of hours, I see the planet Earth getting bigger and bigger from behind the window. We enter the atmosphere roughly, but the turbulence doesn't last long. Carol finds the Avengers compound surprisingly easily, and sets the ship down gently on the front lawn.
I see Steve, Rhodes, Natasha, and Bruce come out of the building, and when the ship isn't moving anymore I help Tony stand up. With the help of Nebula, I manage to get Tony to the stairs of the ship.
I'm surprised at how light Tony is and that makes me worried. What would have happened if I didn't get that soul signal? What would have happened if I waited another day to respond to that signal?
I'm just very grateful and so relieved that I was able to find Tony alive and get him safely back on Earth.
