Chapter Twenty-Five: Time Heist Practice
"I am so confused." Scott shakes his head, trying to take it all in. I sit next to him in the diner booth, trying not to laugh.
Of course I've met Professor Hulk before. I was one of the first to meet him when he first, uh, formed. It takes some getting used to because he is definitely not what I expected, but it's been three years now since he formed. I guess I'm just used to it.
"These are confusing times." Professor Hulk explains as simply as possible. He continues to eat his huge meal. "Is anyone gonna have some eggs? I can't eat all of this!"
"Um, Mister Hulk?" I clear my throat to compose myself and turn to the kids who said that. A group of children with a phone in hand tap Hulk on the shoulder. "Can we get a photo with you?"
"Of course, tiny person!" Hulk delicately takes the phone from the girl and hands it to Scott to take the picture. They all pose and say "green" as the flash goes off.
Scott hands back the device and before thinking, he says, "You want to grab one with me? I'm Ant-Man."
Cue the cringe. Scott, why did you have to say anything? The kids shake their heads and I hide my face to help escape the awkward scenario. Hulk is not helping because he keeps pushing the kids to take a picture with Scott. How would they know who he is? He's been missing for five years!
Finally, Scott shoves the phone in the kid's hand and says, "Just take the damn phone."
Suddenly, one of the younger kids in the back pushes his way to the front of the small group and taps my arm. "You're... you're (Y/n)! The Protector!"
I blush a bit at the recognition and nod. "I sure am, kiddo." I smile and raise my hand so it's eye level with the kid. I ignite my fingers with purple flames and shoot them around his head slowly. The kid is awed, and I can tell not only because of his facial expression but because I can read his mind. Suddenly, an adult yells something and all the kids wave goodbye.
After the kids leave, Captain Rogers sighs and turns to Hulk. "Bruce, can we get back to what we were talking about?"
"Right." Professor Hulk scratches his chin before making up his mind fairly quickly. "I'm sorry, but that's out of my area of expertise."
"Why? You managed to pull this off. I remember a time where that seemed pretty impossible." Natasha recalls the time where she first met the Hulk. He almost killed her on the helicarrier that day.
Hulk smiles slightly and nods. "I guess you're right. If it's possible, we have to try."
"And that's what I'm talking about. Let's go!" I start to get really excited. For the first time in years, we have something to do other than hold meetings and move supplies around a dying planet. We are finally back on track to being a team, the Avengers. I close my eyes and create a portal to the Avengers facility, and I take the team with me.

"Alright, Scott, are you ready for a test run?" Hulk asks from behind a computer he set up. We took about four hours to get everything ready and Scott got suited up.
Scott does some stretches in front of the Quantum Tunnel. "I'm ready."
"Okay then, Steve I need you or Nat to kill the power when I tell you. We don't want to lose Tiny here in the 1600's." Hulk tries to whisper, but does a terrible job at it. He sees no one is laughing, so he quickly says, "Just a bad joke."
Steve walks up to Hulk with a concerned face. "Are you serious?"
"I don't know do you think I know what I'm doing?! This is time travel, it's either that it's all a joke or none of it is!" Hulk turns to Scott and gives a thumbs up. "We're good! Scott, I'm going to send you back a week, let you wander around for a few hours, and bring you back in ten seconds."
"Totally not confusing." Scott makes an obviously confused face, but waves it off, knowing he could never understand how this works.
"It's just quantum physics." I shrug, thinking it's not that complicated. I remember reading a bunch on Quantum Mechanics after my first vision of Ant-Man and the Wasp. That was a long time ago, though.
"And in three, two, one!" Hulk presses a button on his computer and Scott is sucked into the Quantum Tunnel. "And returning in five, four, three, two."
"Um, guys!" In replace of Scott is a little kid. My eyes widen, feeling all hope get flushed down the drain.
"We missed something?" I put a hand on my chin and start pacing. "Why is Lang a kid? We had to have gotten all the coordinates right because I did them myself..."
I continue to pace and pace back and forth next to the power switch machine. I try to think of anything we could have missed. Hulk and I worked together on this, and with the help from the Mind Stone, we couldn't have possibly gotten this wrong! What did Scott say about the Quantum Realm? It's unpredictable?
Next, an old man version of Scott comes out of the machine. Hulk quickly changes something and sends him back in time once again. Out pops a baby.
"That's a baby." Thank you, Steve, Captain Obvious.
"It's Scott!" Hulk argues. He doesn't want to send Lang back in time too much or something bad might happen. Or worse, they'd lose Scott for good. "He'll grow!"
"Change him back!" Steve orders in his captain voice.
"Nat, when I tell you to kill the power, do it!" Hulk turns to Natasha who nervously struts over to the power switch. "And, kill it!"
Natasha pulls the lever at just the right time. Scott emerges from the tunnel as himself, thankfully, with a terrified face. "Somebody wet my pants. But, I can't tell if it was baby me or old me. Or just... me... me."
"Time travel!" Hulk raises his hands with the biggest grin on his face I've ever seen. Steve rolls his eyes and walks away, and I just facepalm. "What? I see this as an absolute win."
I sigh and sit down at a table by the windows. I watch Steve exit the building and stare out into space. He really wanted this to work, like how all of us did. What were we missing? Right, Scott said that the Quantum Realm is very unpredictable. So, why did it change him into different ages? It's almost as if we pushed time through him instead of pushing him through time. What can we do to stop that from happening?
It hits me like a train. My eyes widen and I slowly stand up, my mouth slightly agape.
What happens if I use my Space Infinity Stone powers and I have no idea where I want to land? I end up in a random point in space. That's exactly what happened with Scott except with time. It's as simple as knowing exactly where you want to land in time. You need a navigation system, a GPS. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to make one.
Suddenly, the doors burst open, and Steve walks in with Tony Stark. Tony smirks at everyone and holds up his hand, showing something wrapped around it. "A universal time space GPS."
"No freaking way." I can't keep a straight face no matter how hard I try. I smile while rolling my eyes playfully, and give Tony a gentle high five. "I just figured that out. How did you make it?"
Tony's eyes dim a bit, but he keeps a happy expression. "We've been stuck in a cave for five years now. It's about time I made us something to help break free."
His comment strikes me like a lightning bolt through the heart. The original Iron Man. I can't believe he still remembers the events of what happened during that time. I look at him confidently and say, "You've built a suit of armor for all of us this time, not just yourself."
"Speaking of all of us." Tony puts a hand on my shoulder and starts walking toward the Quantum Tunnel. "We need the team."
Rocket, Nebula, and Rhodey join us in a couple hours. Rocket is more than willing to go with Hulk to get Thor from New Asgard. Natasha says she's going to find Clint. I volunteer to help her, but she tells me that this is something she has to do alone. I understand that, but I at least create a portal for her to get to Japan easily.
Hulk and Rocket are already gone. I could teleport to their location and help them with Thor, but I think that would be overkill. Thor is closest to Rocket and Hulk anyway, so it makes sense.
I hate waiting. I just want to be doing something, helping out in some way. Tony asked if I wanted to help him, but I think he's got this. He's better working by himself on projects, and I don't want to disturb him. I know he only asked because he noticed I was bored.
Right now, I'm staring out the window from a white couch. I hear footsteps, but don't have to look up to know it's Rhodey coming. What? Don't blame me, I can't help it when I read people's minds.
"Hey, champ." Rhodey isn't in his War Machine armor. Instead, he's in his normal everyday comfy clothes. Rhodey sits down next to me and slips a communicator out of his pocket. "We could use the help."
I look at the communicator. This one has only one button on it, which has the symbol of Captain Marvel painted over it. I become even more confused. "Why are you giving it to me?"
"I think you're the only one who has a chance of getting her to come along." Let me get this straight. Rhodey thinks that Carol is going to listen to me?
"I'm not sure..." I graze my thumb over the button to call her, not really convinced that this is going to turn out well.
"Look, if she says no, then at least you tried." Rhodey stands up and pats my shoulder before heading over to Tony.
I stare at the communicator for what seems like five extra years, when it has only been five seconds. Finally, gathering my courage, I take a deep breath and press the button. I immediately put the communicator in my ear.
The device rings for a few rounds before Carol answers. "Rhodes, I can't talk for long right now. I'm trying to single handedly keep the Astrans from attacking the Ergons!"
Carol is breathing rapidly and it seems like she's dodging things. I have to talk fast. "Carol, this is (Y/n). We think we cracked something regarding time travel. We need you to-"
"Erg! Take that, you airhead!" Carol cuts me off. She takes a deep breath before saying, "(Y/n), no matter what it is you're doing, I'm sure you guys can handle it. I can't leave the universe in this state!"
"No, we think we can fix it! We can get the Infinity Stones from the past and-" Suddenly, a rumble is heard in the distance.
"Remember, you guys take care of the Earth and I got everything else. Send out a signal if you absolutely need me!" With that said, the line goes dead.
I sigh, a bit annoyed by Carol's cockiness, and take out the communicator from my ear. "So much for being a team."
I find Rhodes by the kitchen and give him back his Carol Danvers direct call unit. "Thanks for giving me something to do, but it looks like she's not going to help us."
Rhodey nods and glumly takes back the communicator. He pours a glass of orange juice, sadly remembering that Sam used to like to drink it all the time. "We are on our own then."
I agree with him one hundred and fifteen percent. This is our thing to do, whether or not Carol wants to be apart of it. We are the ones who lost to Thanos before, and now we are the ones who have to finish that fight. He may have won the battle, but we sure won't lose the war. It's dawning on me that this is it. It's now or never. We really are in the endgame.
