Chapter 12: Little to Some Hope

Then a guard came and escorted Jamie to Thanos's throne room, where Gamora was. She sat down beside her, making Gamora acknowledge her presence.

"You cut your hair?" she asked.

"Might as well. I can't stand Thanos, especially after him taking my fiancé and future brother-in-law away from me," Jamie pointed out.

Gamora then looked at Jamie, her story sounding familiar, so she asked, "What are their names?"

"Loki was my fiancé while Thor was my future brother-in-law. Why?" Jamie wondered, confused.

"The other guardians and I met someone named Thor after rescuing from the wreckage of a ship. He's alive," Gamora explained.

Jamie started to smile with some hope then said, "Thank you for telling me."

"You're welcome. And I'm sorry about your fiancé," Gamora said, placing a comforting hand on Jamie's.

"Thanks. But he has ways of contacting beyond death. Hopefully I can get him back and kill Thanos," Jamie replied, determined.

"I will help you with that," Gamora said.

That's when Thanos entered with two bowls of food, making them be quiet.

"I thought you two might be hungry," Thanos offered.

They took the bowls then threw them at the chair.

"I always hated that chair," Gamora said.

"So I've been told. Even so, I hoped you'd sit in it one day," Thanos replied honestly.

"You're sick," Jamie muttered.

"I hated this room, this ship...I hated my life," Gamora stated.

"You told me that, too. Everyday. For almost twenty years," he pointed out, going to take a seat.

"I was a child when you took me," she stated.

"I saved you," Thanos declared.

"No. We were happy on my home planet," Gamora remarked.

"Going to bed hungry? Scrounging for scraps? Your planet was on the brink of collapse. I'm the one who stopped that. You know what's happened since then? The children born, have known nothing but full bellies and clear skies. It's a paradise," he explained.

"Let me guess. Because you murdered half the planet?" Jamie guessed.

"A small price to pay for salvation," Thanos responded.

"You're insane," Gamora whispered.

"Little one, it's a simple calculus. This universe is finite. Its resources, finite. If life is left unchecked, life will cease to exist. It needs correction," he remarked.

"You don't know that!" Gamora yelled.

"I'm the only one who knows that. At least, I'm the only one with the will to act on it. For a time...you...had that same will, as you fought by my side, daughter," Thanos stated.

"I'm not your daughter. Everything I hated about myself, you taught me," Gamora stated.

"Why am I not surprised?" Jamie asked sarcastically.

"And in doing so, made you the fiercest woman in the galaxy. It's why I trusted you to find the Soul Stone," Thanos told Gamora then said to Jamie, "And you better watch your mouth, girl."

That just made Jamie glare at him as if she was burning a hole in his head.

"I'm sorry I disappointed you," Gamora stepped in to take the tension away from Jamie.

"I am disappointed. But not because you didn't find it. But because you did. And you lied," Thanos said, getting up.
