TARDIS Days (10th)
For those who appreciate those moments...
Drifting in space was usually fun, since you got to relax after tons of running. However, you were getting bored of it. Not because there was nothing to do, but because you've been stuck in the TARDIS for days.
You have pestered the Doctor millions of times (well, according to him it was just seventeen) why you were still in the time machine and not out and about.
"Because," he would say in an exasperated voice, "for the 18th time, (Y/N), she's resting! Imagine having to run a marathon for seven days straight! I bet you would sleep for a year!"
Every single time you would pout, and the Doctor would pinch your cheeks and grab your hand.
"Cheer up, (Y/N)," he said, "There's loads to do in the TARDIS. It's not bigger on the inside for nothing!"
And so the two of you continued running, but that didn't stop you from asking when you could step out of the TARDIS again.
It only took 50 asks, and for the two of you to be stuck in some room in the TARDIS in the dark with the door lock and the lights off and when the situation seemed dire that the Doctor decided to answer you.
Rubbing the back of his neck, he replied, "Uh...it's broken."
Even in the dark, with the only source of light coming from the tip of the Doctor's sonic, you noticed the tip of his ears turning red. You took a step towards him.
"What do you mean it's broken?"
"It means that there's something wrong with her," the Doctor answered slowly, "I've been trying to fix her for the past week and it seems her condition is deteriorating."
In the absence of the air ventilation, you could hear the Doctor's steady breathing, as well as yours. You folded your arms.
"And you're only telling me this now? When we're stuck in here? Wherever here is?"
"I thought I could fix her by then," he defended himself, "Oh, and this is probably a broom closet."
Sighing, you resorted to sitting on the floor with your back against the wall. The Doctor followed suit, seeing as anything he did with his sonic wasn't working.
"Look, (Y/N), I didn't mean for it to happen this way," he tried to apologise, "I thought I could fix her."
"Just like you try to do everything on your own," you refused to look him in the eye, "Every time, Doctor. When will you realise that you've got people that want to help you?"
He placed his hand on yours, "I know, but it's dangerous. What if you die? I won't be able to forgive myself and how am I suppose to answer to your family?"
For some reason, you couldn't help but let out a small laugh. Puzzled, the Doctor asked, "What?"
"Doctor," you said in the most serious tone you could muster, staring straight into his eyes, "How is helping you fix the TARDIS life-threatening?"
Eyes widening, the Doctor exclaimed, "Very! Imagine the wires smacking into your face and electrocuting you alive! Or connecting the wrong one and watching you explode!"
You found it hard to suppress your laughter at the Doctor's exaggeration. Soon enough, the Doctor started to laugh too.
"Oh well, I suppose handing me a wrench or a screwdriver won't hurt."
"That's what I meant all along, silly," you punched him lightly in the arm. He rubbed the sore spot, faking a pained expression.
Just as you thought the silence would settle in, a really loud growl echoed throughout the broom closet. The Doctor raised a brow.
"Was that you?"
"No?" You turned away, trying to hide the blush on your face. It was no use as your body decided to make that strange, embarrassing noise again.
The Doctor seemed to understand what was happening, and instead of plainly stating the obvious, he asked, "Is there a little monster in your tummy?"
The cheekiness in his voice made you want to slap him, but you couldn't face him due to the embarrassment.
Suddenly, the Doctor's ear was pressed against your stomach. You stopped breathing and stayed completely still. This was turning out to be a really weird day.
"Yeah," the Doctor said after a good five seconds, "There's definitely something in there, hold on."
He fished out his stethoscope from his coat pocket. You felt the cold metal part of the instrument against your skin and it sent a shiver throughout your body. As embarrassing as it was, you were strangely starting to enjoy it. After all, you had a thing for the Doctor for some time now.
"Hey (Y/N)?" The Doctor said, still listening to your tummy rumble, "I think the monster says it wants food," he rubbed your stomach gently, "Don't worry, we'll get some."
"Yeah, if you could just get us out of here and to the kitchen."
"Oh," The Doctor removed the stethoscope from his ears, "Right, sorry."
Another loud growl sounded, and this time you stared at the Doctor in shock. It didn't come from you.
The Doctor was just as surprised as you were, but nothing could prepare him for what you had in mind. The smirk on your face was growing as you snatched the stethoscope from his hands and used his trusty tool against him.
"Hey! I didn't give you permission!"
"Neither did I!"
Luckily, the Doctor settled down and let you do what he did to you. It was strange, but other than his stomach, you could hear his two heartbeats. It was, in a way, comforting, and you could listen to it all day.
You didn't notice that the Doctor didn't seem to mind at all. The smile on his face went unnoticed by you.
And at that moment, the lights came back on and you were temporarily blinded by them. The TARDIS seemed to have come back to life. Coming to your senses, you awkwardly stood up and returned the Doctor his stethoscope. The Doctor coughed and pocketed it. If anyone else was at the scene, they would surely notice how flustered the both of you were. For now, you only knew how warm your face was and how fast your heart was beating.
"So," the Doctor spoke after an awkward pause, "Kitchen?"
"Kitchen."
He offered you his hand, and you couldn't say no.
