Pilot Part 2

"Well I am happy to be the first and surprised cause it looks like you act like an ass to a lot of people." She reaches forward for her bag and he drops it into her hand.

"Maybe it's because I'm devilishly handsome. Or because I'm the owner of this club. And you look like you don't belong here." Charlotte cursed herself. Of course she found herself insulting the owner of the club her brother was trying to get drinks in and her best friend got lost in. Anxiety reached its hands onto her shoulders making her wonder all the what if's. What if he kicked her out? What if she couldn't find her friends? What if the owner kept her here and realized her fake ID was crap? "You don't look like a fan of clubs I mean."

"Oh." She found her breath caught in her throat, her eyes wide.

"Did you come here with somebody? I assume it wasn't your choice."

"No. My friends dragged me here cause they wanted to waste their time." She paused adding, "My legal friends, as am I. Legal to drink, to be here, I mean." The warlock gave a little smirk and chuckle at the small mundane.

Charlotte was confused as to why she was staying in conversation with the man. 'Right, my book,' she thought, 'he still has it.' "So can I have my book and I will get out of your lovely hair. Your hair. It's nice, not that I'm saying it's not lovely. I'll leave you alone, I'm saying."

A rush was taken over by Charlotte as she then was being whisked away by the charming owner and bright red hair was in her face.

"Clary, what the hell?!" Clary looked bewildered causing Charlotte to wonder what the hell Clary has been doing.

"We have to go now." Clary looked back and her eyes made contact with the man her best friend was talking with. His eyes had deep hooks, a memory of the man with cat eyes flashed and then she shook her head of the memory, her grip tightened and she continued to drag Charlotte out of the club ignoring Charlotte's brother and Maureen who had managed to get drinks for the four of them.

"Not that I'm complaining about leaving the club, cause I'm not, but why did you want to leave suddenly?" Clary didn't answer her, instead she ran to the cab that was right in front. "Clary, what are you doing? Are you on drugs? Did someone get you drunk?!"

"Lady, is your friend coming with or not?" The driver asks tiredly.

"She's coming," Charlotte answers opening up the door and shoving herself into the cab next to Clary. "Clary you're starting to scare me, did somebody do something to you? I was talking to the owner, I could have told him and we could have messed the guy up-"

"No, none of that, Charlotte. I need to get home. You don't even want to know what I saw in there." Charlotte didn't reply but looked forward, away from the shocked red head. Street lights shone in the cab once in a while, Charlotte couldn't help but glance over at Clary every once in a while. She had no clue what Clary confronted in the club and it terrified her that Clary wanted to leave so suddenly.

Once the cab approached Clary's home, Clary became a speeding bullet, Charlotte had never seen the red head go so fast. "I'm so sorry. How much is it?"

"30 dollars."

"30?" She yelled. The cab driver kept a straight face, no budging. "Fine. Here's your 30. Have a wonderful night sir of scamming young girls." She got out slamming the door and turning to see that Clary was already through the wide open door.

"Clary wait up, you know I don't run fast!" Charlotte called for her friend. She growled in frustration, pushing her glasses back up and adjusting her tied up hair. "Do not yell at her, she's messed up that's all. Someone probably gave her something. No biggie." She continued up the steps of the home."

As she came into the home she didn't see Dot but soon came upon a frightened Clary talking to her mom. "And then these creepy tentacles seemed to come out of the body builder's face, and ... and then the guy just ... vaporized."

"Oh my god Clary, I asked you if somebody gave you something! You got drugged! You're tripping! Oh my god somebody drugged my best friend! Simon and Maureen are still there. I should give that club a bad review. I met the owner, I'm going to have words with him."

Clary trembled at the memories and turned back to her mom while her best friend stammered over what she would do. Much like her brother she didn't have too much to do but she was feistier than the older twin.

"I mean I was drugged, right?"

"What did the markings look like, on the blonde boy you were talking about?" Clary's mom asks calmly.

"Which blonde boy? Oh my god the imaginary dude? Does that mean you were drugged before the club?!"

"Oh my god, Charlie he wasn't imaginary! Who cares about the blonde, Mom, okay? Are you guys even listening to me? I think I killed a guy."

Charlotte's mouth unhinged, her glasses almost sliding off her face. "WHAT?! You committed murder! How?! WHY?!"

Jocelyn ignores Charlotte's ranting in the background and came up to her daughter. "Clary, did they look like this?" She asks as she uses her stele to unmask her rune.

Charlotte's eyes now widened as she stepped closer to the woman who was always so kind to her.

"Mom, what the..."

"Everything you saw tonight has a meaning and an explanation, and I've dreaded having this conversation with you since the day you were born, and I never wanted your friend to be here for this."

"What is going on? Am I going insane?" Clary stammered out.

"Does your family have a mental illness that runs in the family, cause if so it's fine Simon and I will be here for you, Clary, you know that."

"Mom are we mentally ill?"

"No you're not." Jocelyn pauses, sighing over the fact her daughter's friend was causing her to panic and unfortunately for her continues, "But the protections are wearing off. You're 18 now, and you need to know the truth."

"Protections? What does that even mean? Mom, you ... Mom you're scaring the hell out of me."

"I know and that's why I've put this off until the last possible minute."

"Maybe I should have left a while ago. Clary I think I'm gonna go walk home." Dot rushes in before Charlotte could take her leave.

"Jocelyn, look out the window. Magnus called to warn us. They found you." Jocelyn goes to the window and observes whatever or whoever was out there Charlotte had no clue.

"Dot, it's time." She comes back to the living room towards Clary. "Okay listen, you cannot be near me."

"What's happening?" Clary asks as Jocelyn frantically moves around the apartment. Charlotte backed away more and more, hoping she could get home tonight and tell her mom about what happened at Clary's house.

"I got a very powerful person angry."

"What did you do?"

"I hid something from him and his followers."

"Whoa, like a cult?"Charlotte wonders.

"Followers? Why can't we just call the police?" Jocelyn makes her way over to Clary and turns her.

"The policeman you need to call is Luke. Keep this with you and think of me when you wear it."

"Mom, this is not the time for more birthday gifts. What the hell is happening?" Charlotte makes her way to the door, but is stopped by Dot.

"It's too late, Charlie. You have to stay with Clary." She grabs the girl's arm and takes her over to Clary while handing a bottle to Jocelyn. "Only if you need it." She tells Jocelyn.

"Trust your instincts. You're more powerful than you know. Protect Charlie, she shouldn't have had any part of this, but it's too late now."

"Mom, I need to understand what's-"

"Dot, open it." Jocelyn orders.

"Ms. Fray, I'm sure Clary doesn't need to protect me, what is going on?" Charlie looks to the side and saw blue mist out of her hand. "What the hell? How was I drugged? I didn't drink anything. The owner maybe."

"Charlotte, not now! I'm so sorry. This should have never happened to you. You should have been with your brother, you were only trying to be a good friend. Whatever you do, stay with Clary."

She takes Clary by the arm as Charlotte follows, "Everything I've done, every mistake I've made was because I love you, more than words.

"What are you doing?" Clary begs.

"Luke will explain everything. He'll hide you."

"Hide me?"

"From the Circle. He's the only one you can trust. Trust no one else."

"Mom, I don't-"

"Where's Luke now?!"

"At the police station!" Clary cries out. Charlotte glanced wearily around, everything seemed so fuzzy to her, she had to be dreaming, she thought to herself.

"Remember, I love you."

"Mom."

"Clary."

Air whooshed over them, and then all of a sudden Charlotte was inside the police station with Clary. She breathed so fast looking around everywhere. "Clary?" Someone called. The two girls looked to the right to see the Captain coming up the steps.

"Captain Vargas." Clary greeted standing up. The woman came towards the two girls, eyeing them suspiciously.

"It's 2:00 in the morning. What are you two doing here so late?"

"Uh, um, Luke said he'd uh, drive me home if he was still here."

"Still doesn't trust those cabbies, huh? Well, he's in the middle of an interview. It could take a while."

"Cool, we'll wait in the cafeteria, come on, Charlotte." Clary stammered out, pulling Charlotte by the arm.

"Hey, uh ... is there some sort of problem? Guy trouble?"

"Yeah sure, guy trouble." Clary then walked away as Charlotte slowly made her way to her.

"Look, Clary, I think I'm gonna head home. My mom and brother are probably extremely worried."

"What about what my mom said? What if something happens?" Clary instantly questions and worries. Charlotte faltered, wondering what was best. She had no clue what Clary's mom meant by what she said. Every word that came out was complete gibberish to her. She looked between Clary and the nearest exit. She could have easily gone home to her family, but her friend clearly needed her whether Clary would admit it or not.

"Alright, let's go find Luke. And hope this is just some messed up drug."

"I don't think it is Charlie."

"See, this would have never happened if we went to Lombardi's. We would have had some PG fun with no tentacles or whatever came out of that guys face."

"Sadly you're right, Charlie."

The two girls descended down the stairs where they saw Luke talking to people. "Do you know who they are?" Charlie asks in a whisper.

"No." Clary replies in the same hushed tone.

"The minute we found out Jocelyn Fairchild was alive, you were easy to track." The man says to Luke.

"Fairchild? Why would they call your mom that, your last name is Fray." Charlotte wonders out loud.

"Turns out you and Jocelyn were never that far apart. The Circle has her now. It's just a matter of time until we catch her daughter." Charlotte remembered when Clary's mom mentioned the Circle and shuddered over the fact that there was the possibility she wasn't home anymore and with these people and that they could soon take Clary.

"You can have them both if you give up the Mortal Cup." The woman who sat on his desk offers.

"The mortal cup? This sounds like some lame YA story."

"YA?" Clary asks.

"Young Adult. Get with the program Clary." Clary glared at the girl and Charlotte looked away.

"Right, not a good time."

Luke sits forward, "I don't care about either of them. They mean nothing to me." Clary gasps. "Kill them both if you like. My people want the Cup. Why do you think I've been hanging around all these years?" Luke stands causing the other two to stand. "And when I get the Cup, I'm gonna keep it. And you can tell Valentine and the Circle that."

"No one mentioned Valentine." The woman tries to refutes.

"You didn't have to."

"Listen-" Luke slaps the man's hand out of the way.

"No, you listen. Get out of my office." The two left and Clary hid behind the staircase. Charlotte's mind became cluttered as she bent down with Clary to comfort her.

"We have to get out of here, Clary. Those two are still around and they want you. I don't know if Luke was lying or not but we can't risk that. Come on."

"Mom." Clary breathed out shakily. Charlotte takes her hand and the two get up and head into the pouring rain ready to get away from the police station.

"I'm so going to get sick in this, ugh." Charlotte comments to herself.

That wasn't the main priority. The two ran up to Clary's building as Clary screamed out for her mom. "Wait, Clary! I still can't run that fast! Be careful!" Clary had run into the building when Charlotte came upon the pool of blood. "Oh god. Clary, we shouldn't be here!" She runs up the steps and finds herself in the destroyed home of Clary's. Clary sat there sobbing and wailing as she looked with dismay. "Oh, Clary. I'm so sorry." She sat on the floor with her friend and tried her best to console her. "I'm sure your mom is okay. They said the Circle has her, they didn't say she was gone. I'm sure she'll be alright. I don't think we should stay here though. They could come back whoever they are."

Thunder rumbled causing fear to take over Charlotte's mind. Clary stood up going past her and grabbed an axe from the shelf.

"Whoa, Clary. What are you going to do with that? Do you even know how to fight with it?" She continued to follow Clary like a lost dog not bothering to grab her own weapon.

As they came upon the apartment Clary had found Dot. Charlotte let out a sigh of relief since they had an adult they could trust now. "Dot." Clary greets her with relief as well, dropping the axe to the floor.

"They took Jocelyn." Dot says.

"Who took her?" Clary asks in tears.

"Rogue Shadowhunters searching for the Mortal Cup."

"What is this Mortal Cup everyone wants? Wouldn't people want the immortal cup?" Charlotte questions the woman who ignored her completely.

"Think, Clary." She stalks towards Clary, "Did your mother ever talk to you about a cup? A very important cup. It's gold, almost like a chalice."

"No! No, I don't know anything about a cup, Dot. One of the antiquities downstairs?" Clary stammers.

"No, not those. Think, Clary. This could save Jocelyn."

"I can't think! Someone kidnapped my mother!" Clary yells.

"You know more than you think you do, Clary Fray." Suddenly her mouth opened unnaturally and Charlotte had to stop herself from fainting. She backs into the wall watching as her best friend gets attacked by some creature. She looked to the axe on the floor as Clary was backed against a wall by it, but it was too late. The creature vanishes as Clary gasps at something invisible. Charlotte stares with wide eyes at nothing.

Jace looks back to see Clary's friend standing against the wall, paralyzed by fear. He takes his stele and reveals himself as it was too late to leave the girl like that in the home. She would have gone to the police or someone else mundane.

"What, no "thank you" for saving your life?" The blonde asks Clary. "Careful. That demon got a piece of you."

"Demons?"

"Yeah. What do you think that miserable disgusting thing was?"

"Death coming to take me to hell." Charlotte wheezed out. She had not moved a single muscle and did not plan on it either.

"I, uh, I thought it was Dot."

Jace continued to check Clary over for injuries as he explained, "No, Raevener demon, shapeshifter."

"You're just saying words now."

"How do we know you're not a Raevener demon? Huh?" Charlotte accuses the shadowhunter.

"Why is the room swirling?" Charlotte looked over at her friend in worry and moved finally from her spot against the wall.

"What did you do to her? Clary, are you okay?"

"Demon venom."

"Cause that makes perfect sense."

"Is that bad?" Clary pants out before she passes out into his arms. Jace holds her up and carries her bridal style.

"Whoa, where the hell do you think you're going with her?"

"Listen, mundie she won't get any better by sitting here, especially with you. You can't do anything for her. Just come with me, I don't know why you were brought into this mess-"

"Because I'm nosy and worry for my friends when strange people try to kidnap them."

"Good to know. Let's go."

--

Charlotte sat by Clary's bedside, ignoring the shadowhunters that moved in and out. An eager raven haired girl sat next to Clary as well which made Charlotte glance at her in a strange wonder.

"So..." Charlotte dragged out as she stared at the beautiful girl. "Your friend tattooed my friends neck, crazy world."

Izzy laughs at the girls strange observation. "Yeah, it helped her heal. Don't worry, she's in good hands."

"Well blondie should have said that when he did it." Charlotte says as she thought back to her slapping him as he put the rune on her neck.

Clary laid in bed with her hand to her necklace as it started to glow a bright purple. She muttered in her sleep as Charlotte moved forward. "Clary?" Clary gasps awake, jumping up and bumping into Izzy.

"Ow." She says.

"Wait, I don't know who you-"

"I'm Isabelle. Your friend Charlotte is here."

"Charlie, my friends call me Charlie." Charlotte laughs out awkwardly.

"Charlie, what the hell? Where are we?"

"I've never seen Jace so curious about a mundane, or distracted. Like you saw earlier, distractions are dangerous in our line of work."

"Our line of work?" Charlotte asks.

"I have no idea what you're talking about. Who's Jace?"

"Blondie." Charlotte answers with a knowing pat to Clary's shoulder.

"You really don't know much, do you?"

"All I know is some psychos took my mother and now you people have taken me and my friend."

"Well they haven't been that bad, Clary. Beside the weird looks and the strange stuff. It could be worse if we are considered to be kidnapped." Charlotte looks over to Izzy for clarification. "Are we kidnapped?" Izzy shakes her head with a chuckle.

"And by taken I assume you mean "saved your life"?"

"Mundanes shouldn't even be here." A tall boy walks in with the blonde.

"Where is "here" exactly?" Clary asks.

"She is not a mundane, Alec. Her friend is though."

"How do you know that?"

"Because the seraph blade lit up when she touched it." Jace turned to Izzy. "Look, Isabelle, can you..." Isabelle gets up and Charlotte moves closer to Clary with an arm on her shoulder as the boy approached her.

"I'm Jace Wayland."

"I'm uh-"

"Clary Fray, we know who you are."

"A lot of people seem to know who she is. That doesn't make you guys special."

"Am I the only one who finds this unusual?" Alec asks with his arms crossed, glaring down at the two.

"Me, I think this is unusual." Charlotte answers with a hand up. "A few hours ago Clary was talking to an invisible person at a club and now a demon has attacked her and we're in here with strangers. So yeah pretty unusual for some "mundanes"."

"You find everything unusual, Alec. This is not really unusual..." Jace trails off not remembering the mundane's name.

"Charlotte, blondie. Get with the program."

"I have to report this to the Clave."

"You know what? Dial it down a notch."

Isabelle cuts in from the chair to the side, "My brother doesn't have a dial. I love you, Alec, but you have a switch that's always on."

"I love you too, but this-"

"Hey, you know what? Give me a minute." Alec stayed firm in his place. "Hey here's a word you never hear me say, please."

"What is with you?"

"Walk with me, big brother." Isabelle says getting up and pushing her brother gently out of the room. Charlotte looked back to the blonde to see him staring at her.

"What?" She asks and then sits silently as he continues to stare in an obvious manner. "Seriously? You want me to leave too. Wow. That's disrespectful." The girl adjusted her glasses and turned to Clary. "Are you okay with me leaving?"

Clary sat there looking like she was in a confused state but after a minute she nodded.

"You're lucky this time, Wayland." Charlotte stares deeply with her eyes squinted, her attempt at inducing fear. She got up and walked around the bed and out the door where the two siblings stood in the hall. They stopped talking and just stared, Izzy more inviting than her brothers. Alec's stare made Charlotte feel as if she didn't belong, which she knew was right. She had no place in this place whatever it was she had no clue. "Yeah I got kicked out too." Alec scoffed and walked away as Isabelle made her way over to Charlotte.

"So, Charlie, you said was your name?" Charlotte nodded. "I'd show you around but that's not best for mundanes, and my brother may kill me. But I have a feeling you'll be around more often."

"Sorry but I don't know if I want to stay here longer than I should. I'm sure my brother is freaking out and my mom probably already called the police. I should really get out of your hair. I just need my best friend and we'll be out of your hair." Charlotte tells her as she examines the pretty shadowhunter.

Just as Isabelle was about to answer Clary came out with a new outfit and Jace on her tail. "Simon's here, Charlie, we gotta go."

"Oh thank god, my brother is useful for once."She went to follow Clary but didn't forget to wave to Isabelle. "Bye Isabelle."

"Bye Charlie." Isabelle waves back thinking how adorable the mundane was and how desperately she wanted her to try some of her clothing.

"I saw something behind your friend." Jace says as he unleashes his seraph blade, a shiny sword Charlotte thought.

"You're not gonna kill Simon, are you?" Clary asks.

"Kill Simon? Why are we killing Simon?! Blondie what the hell?"

"Protect the humans, kill the demons. You'll get it eventually." Charlotte sighed a breath of relief knowing her, her brother, and Clary were safe as far as she knew with the blonde Shadowhunter.

When they were about to leave Charlotte noticed Jace suddenly was invisible.

"Whoa, so is this some kind of power these guys have, invisibility? By the way, this does not look good for you Clary. Me, I might be able to get out of this."

"Oh, so why can't Simon or Charlotte see you?" Clary asks the invisible area next to her. Charlotte then wondered if they really were on a drug trip that went south.

"What do you have on, Clary?" Simon asks taking off a jacket for her. "Let me take you home."

"Yeah, your twin is fine too, Simon, don't worry a thing about your flesh and blood." Charlotte mutters.

"I don't think I have one anymore."

"Why? What do you mean?"

"Well..." Clary couldn't finish her sentence because someone had yelled out her name. But this with the last name the two girls heard in the police station. Charlotte and Simon though sat in confusion as Clary stared in fear and once in a while gasped or yelped. If Charlotte didn't know of what had happened the past few hours she may have thought Clary had gone nuts. "Jace!" Clary then finally yells running over. "Is he dead?" She asks pointing to the ground.

"Is who dead?" Simon then asks even more confused.

"Wow, we look so crazy." Charlotte observes looking at the abandoned church they're in front of at night.

The body of the man Jace killed then was visible to the two humans eyes. "What the-"

"Oh my God! Why are we still here?!" Charlotte asks looking up into the sky. She just wanted sleep and this was keeping her from her nice, soft bed.

"Could you deglamorize, or whatever, so my best friend doesn't think I'm losing my mind?"

Then Jace appears with his rune activated. "Blondie, welcome back. Or whatever that happened, happened. I think we're good, right Simon? You don't need an explanation."

"What is happening?"

"Simon, please, home is calling us, van is there, let's go." Charlotte beckons as her arms move drastically to the van.

"Yeah we don't have that luxury right now. Everyone back inside."

"Clary, who is this, your meth dealer?"

"Wow Simon you have no faith in our friend." Charlotte jokes knowing just hours before she thought all the same thing.

"I've seen him before. At the police station." Clary tells Jace. Charlotte makes her way over to the man with caution and looked at his face, it scared her that she wasn't as scared that she was looking at a body.

"Oh right, that's him."

"He's a member of the Circle, Clary, he's here for you."

"I think we could have come to that conclusion ourselves. Tell us something we don't know."

"He's with the people who took my mother."

"Right, your little best friend here led him right to you. He's here to capture you or kill you." Charlotte elbowed her brother.

"Good going."

"There's a dead body there, we have to call Luke."

"Now you decide that the dead body is an issue huh?" Charlotte asks sarcastically. "He literally just said the guy was here to kill Clary."

"We can't trust Luke, Simon. We can't." Clary tells him.

"Clary, I need to keep you safe. I promise you, I promise I am gonna help you find your mother. But you're one of us. You're a Shadowhunter."

"Clary... you don't know this guy, all right? Come with us, I can get us help."

Clary looked to Charlotte who was unsure of what to say. Either way she felt her best friend wasn't safe. These Circle people are coming after her as well as demons. She knew for sure her brother couldn't hold off against a Raevener Demon.

"I don't know if coming with us is best for her, Simon. This is something different, something the police can't handle."
