Dead Man's Party
"Hello?! Anyone?" Simon calls out, knocking on the metal door. Charlotte sighed, leaning against the creepy coffin in the middle of the room and holding the back of her head. Hit was pounding after getting smacked over the head from the stupid vampire.
"Simon if you can't shut up, I will shut you up. I have a headache."
"I'm just an accounting student. I have no value to anyone." Charlotte clenched her fists looking towards her brother who faced away from her.
"Yeah forget that I exist, that's nice. Thanks, bro."
"Sorry, Charlie. She's just a student too! Please let us out! We barely saw your faces so if you let us go, we couldn't even identify you." Charlotte got up from her spot and sped to her brother.
"Shut up, dude! They're vampires! Coffin living vampires, they do not care! My head hurts so please, just shut up!" She yells at her brother. Simon stays silent for a moment but goes back to the door to stick his face in the cross shaped hole.
"Not that I would 'cause you guys are vampires! Who would believe me? I didn't even know you guys existed until yesterday!" He ranted.
"Dude if you don't shut up, I will feed you to the vampires!"
"Is anyone there?" Simon asks out there as he throws himself to the door, ignoring his sister's anger.
A flash of wind and noise came and Simon shuffled away from the door. "I'd listen to Charlie." The man says with a smirk. The door flew open and the man stepped forward slowly though he was a vampire, Charlotte knew he could have attacked them in a second, yet was toying with her brother like he was prey. The way he mentioned her name terrified her.
"If your goal was to scare the crap out of me, mission accomplished!" The man shut the door and continued walking towards Simon. Simon continued to stutter out random sentences, "you can have it out with those Shadowhunters. Especially the blonde one-"
"Way to throw them under the bus!" Charlotte scolded Simon.
The man backed Simon up against a wall and Charlotte fixed up the courage and stepped towards the man who stepped too close to her brother. "You know, you don't need us." Simon whispers out.
"Back off. We have nothing to do with this. There's nothing you can get from us."
"On the contrary, I do." He finally speaks to the twins. Charlotte shuttered at the gaze in his eyes as he stared at the two. He bared his fangs and launched forward, Charlotte barely had enough time to register and pushed her brother out of the way from the vampire.
-
"Uh, look at all this stuff, these screens. I mean, can any of this help me find Charlie and Simon?" Clary stutters out when she rushes into the space in the Institute with the experienced Shadowhunters on her trail. "Where are they, anyway? Some kind of crypt in Transylvania?" The four approached a table as Jace spoke his thoughts.
"Actually, no. That was Camille's outfit, right? They're locals."
"They're at the Hotel DuMort, down in Gansevoort Street." Isabelle informs.
"And we came back here? Why? We have to go there. Let's go, now. Come on." Clary tells the group, in disbelief. Every second they stood there, Clary feared for her friends' lives. She knew Charlie would do something stupid for Simon, and Simon would be Simon. The two were not the best together in a situation even if Charlotte can be a good problem solver.
"We need a Clave resolution for that." Alec stops Clary.
Isabelle adds, "The four of us can't declare war on the vamps all by ourselves."
"And we can't react without considering our options. Downworlders are slaves to their impulses. We're not."
"Alec, you can't just jump on all Downworlders." Izzy reprimands her older brother.
Alec turns to his sister, "Oh, that's right. Seelies have their charms apparently."
"Right?"
"Seelies?" Clary asks in confusion.
"Like faeries. The Fair Folk. Add pixies, nixies, elves, anybody half-angel, half-demon," Jace explains. "It's pretty much a catch-all term."
"Izzy can tell you all about them. She's got a thing." Alec teases as Izzy teases right back.
"We've all got our things, don't we?"
Clary had had enough of the Shadowhunters stalling, she felt as if they were just doing anything so they didn't have to help save her friends. "Okay, I can't listen to this. Simon and Charlotte are kidnapped by vampires." She was sure Charlotte would have a field day with vampire fantasy questions, but still worried the ending wouldn't turn out well. "I guess I'll just take care of it myself."
"Clary, you're gonna get yourself killed." Jace calls after Clary to stop her from going. The red head kept her pace when Jace continued on, "Clary, Simon and Charlotte too." That made Clary stop in her spot and turn back to Jace. She walked forward with determination in her steps and came up to the table.
"Then help me. While we consider other options, my best friends are suffering. Is that something Shadowhunters understand or am I just being a mundane?"
The three Shadowhunters glanced around at each other before Jace spoke up. "Clary's right. They made the first move. We're gonna take care of this ourselves right now." The four move in closer when Alec instantly rejects the idea.
"This is a bad idea. I-"
"What have you got a better one?" Jace asks Alec. "Look the vamps broke the Accords. They kidnapped mundies. That's a big no-no. The Clave will give us a lecture and then they'll be glad we did it. Come on."
"Hard to argue with that." Izzy agrees.
"Even if we went ahead, I don't see how we get out of here without having to explain where we're going." Alec continues to explain, "We need weapons and we can't let anyone see us get them."
After a pause Jace knew what to do, "I know where to get what we need." Clary was grateful that she could finally get the chance to save her friends.
--
Charlotte felt herself get pushed forward lightly by the man in back of her as she observed the place they were in.
"So how does this end? Do we, uh, do we get out of here or what?" Simon asks the vampire.
"The answer to that is above my pay grade." He answers.
"Paygrade? They they pay vampires?"
"Aw does that make you sad?" Charlotte asks sarcastically. Raphael sighs at the mundane. "I don't appreciate the pushing. I can walk. But the head injury wasn't so nice."
"Let's just say we invest early and often. Sit down." Charlotte crosses her arms and stands firm while her brother walks around the room. "Why won't you sit? I really hate fidgeting."
"Yeah it's not fun." Charlotte agrees.
"I'm just, uh, just looking-"
"For a way out?" Raphael asks knowingly.
Charlotte looked around the room while Simon was distracting Raphael. She couldn't leave her brother and knows if she ran off, the speed of a vampire can beat her own. She was terrible at running.
"Ooh," Raphael sharply inhales, "there isn't one."
Simon starts to stutter, "I mean all the, uh... the cool stuff you guys collect. Steal" Charlotte had to think, the stuff was cool, like a museum for free minus the kidnapping. Simon imitates a horn and laughs. Charlotte stared at her brother with disapproval on her face. "It's- whatever."
"So, are all the vampire stories real? What's different?" Charlotte wonders out loud to the vampire in front of her. "Or is that above your pay grade too? How old are you? Or is that rude to ask a vampire, like asking a woman."
Raphael sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, the Lewis siblings would be the end of him. "Leonidas I has been trying to peddle that junk for years. Museums make you prove antiquities are legit these days."
Charlotte looked at her brother and saw as his eyes trained on a knife. She shook her head furiously at him as he glanced up quickly at his twin.
"Yeah naturally."
"When they ask you where you got it, what do you say? It's not against the law to rob my own grave."
Charlotte laughed a bit and continued clenching her fist at the sight of her brother trying to get a knife from the display case behind him. He would get the two killed at any moment. They haven't hurt them yet besides a kidnapping and a killer headache. 'Maybe I got a concussion and my morals are slipping.' Charlotte thought to herself.
Simon threw the knife quickly and it landed in Raphael's chest.
"YES! Nice one, Si, score!" Raphael just chuckled as he stared at the knife in his chest.
"Oh, my god." Simon muttered falling back. "Charlie get away."
"Oh, that is so gross," Charlotte whispered as Raphael chuckled more and grunted taking out the knife from his body.
"Oh, please." He held up the bloody knife and then looked down at his chest. "Honestly I just got this jacket."
"It's a really nice jacket." Charlotte complimented in the face of possible danger. "What brand is it?"
"Thank you." He paused and then turned to Simon, "there's no way out. You're a hostage so accept it."
"What do you want then? We're not really worth much, two college kids with a bunch of debt, if you want to pay off my debt go ahead I won't complain about the kidnapping then."
"Charlie," Simon whispered in warning while Raphael gave a small smirk. "So if I'm a hostage it mean you won't kill me yeah?" He asks in raising hope.
"Won't kill you?" A voice asks. "Who said that?" A woman struts in. 'How is everyone so beautiful in this supernatural world?' Charlotte asks herself. "Raphael." She moves closer to Simon and passes Charlotte without a second glance.
"Oh, look. How sweet. You're bleeding." Her long black painted nails reached up and touched the blood, bringing it to her lips. "I am so looking forward to getting to know you." Charlotte now realized the danger they were in. She thought they were in better hands with Raphael than this woman, who seemed to have a lot of make up in her opinion.
--
"I hate throwing things. I don't.. I literally hate throwing things." Simon stutters as he paces across the floor. Raphael, Charlotte, and Camille stand watching the boy dig himself a hole. "Even at my own Bar Mitzvah, I wouldn't throw spitballs at the gray table. I mean... I would never throw things honest to God!"
"He's right." Charlotte spoke up. "He didn't wanna throw any spitballs. It was hilarious though, very fun."
"Oh god, you guys can't say god right?" He continues ranting.
"For God's sake, what are you trying to say?" Raphael asks.
"I didn't, I didn't mean to throw that thing."
"Of course you did, darling. That's what makes you so amusing." Charlotte didn't like the way Camille looked at her brother, like he was a frazzled mouse and she was the cat playing with dinner.
"I don't find any of this amusing."
"Me neither. I can't say how sorry I am. I can have the whole thing paid for-"
"Simon shut u-"
Camille snaps her fingers causing the Lewis twins to freeze in their places. "Thank you." Raphael sighs out. The Lewis boy irritated him to no end with his ranting the girl didn't bother him as much, she was quirky, he didn't mind it or her. "The living are so exhausting."
"But these will be useful." Camille refutes touching Charlotte's shiny hair that was tied in a low ponytail. "What a waste." She says looking at the mundane's complexion.
Raphael stared carefully at Camille who kept her eyes on Charlotte for too long. "I don't know." He turns back to Simon and then walks towards the other mundane. "I'm not sure breaking the Accords was the best idea. If you'll forgive me, for saying so."
"I'll forgive but I won't agree. You know as well as I do, Clary Fairchild will come after her dearest friends. Whatever he is." She says to Raphael, looking at Simon. "All we have to do is take her. Either she has the Cup or we'll make her tell us where it is."
"She'll bring those Shadowhunters with her."
"They won't get past the front door." She argues back with him. "Even if they do, we've got them vastly outnumbered." Raphael moves back while Camille continues to try and convince him, "Have you ever tasted Shadowhunter blood? It's heavenly."
"I wouldn't know. Let's stick to the subject. Isn't this the wrong time to be antagonizing the Clave? They're our best hope if Valentine really does make a comeback."
"How much longer have I been at this than you?"
"Three, four hundred-"
"You weren't supposed to answer that. Suffice to say, she who controls the Mortal Cup, controls the Shadow World." She turns to the mundane, and walks toward him.
"He's a tasty little morsel. Don't you think?"
"Camille, him?"
"Remember chocolates? Sometimes the plainest candy shell has the tastiest center." She says as she leans against him. "You even get to have a snack." She says as she gestures to Charlotte. Raphael looked next to him and back to Camille with a hardened face.
"No."
"We'll see. Maybe I'll get chocolate and a toy for the kill." She taunts, she goes back to where she originally stood and snapped her fingers once again.
"...so I'd be happy to pay for a whole new jacket."
"Up! Shut up." Charlotte says as the two unknowingly unfreeze. Raphael scoffs turning away from the twins, not without a second glance to the mundane who might be dead by dawn.
"Don't worry my little caramel. Everything will be just fine." Charlotte glared at the woman who called her brother a candy. She didn't feel as safe with this vampire than she did with Raphael, she just prayed Clary was coming for them.
