Hope for the Future
Hope van Dyne didn't know what she would encounter today. Saying that time was relevant in the soul world. It's possible that this could count as a second, in the outside world rather than 24 hours here. Time might go by in a flash, compared to what the others experienced, outside the stone.
If anything, Hope was well aware of what to expect. Parallel dimensions, quantum realm, shrinking, studies in general. Never ever had Hope crossed paths with a walking tree. It was new territory for her to look into. Just like how stealing from a heavily guarded building was new to Hope. She knew she had to be careful, she didn't know what this tree was capable of.
Judging from her encounter with the tree, its speech was poor. The tree would repeat three words. I, am, and Groot. Specifically in that order too. That would get annoying real fast.
Hope didn't have very far to walk. The second floor was her family's base of operation. There were computers everywhere. They were very out dated and were lacking in capabilities. A smile appeared on Hope's face. Her mother was there waiting for her, along with her father. Too bad Scott's not here.
Pym sat at his chair working on one of the outdated computers. Her mother came up to her.
"What did you find?" She asked.
"A talking tree." Hope says.
"Well, it doesn't look like anything I have seen before." She ponders aloud. "Set it on the table." Hope placed the tree on the table, which was in the center of the work space. Pym eyes the creature carefully, he does not want to be attacked by it. Janet placed her hands on the tree's temples.
She wanted to see if she could connect with it. If so, maybe the tree would be able to tell them what the hell is going on. Hope stood there watching. When she blinked, she thought she saw the tree open its eyes. It was only her imagination.
Hope couldn't push away her worries that something weird was going on. She recalls when her parents disappeared into dust. The next thing she knew, her body became dust. What ever happened to Scott? Was he still trapped in the Quantum Realm? Or was he somewhere in this mystical city? Answers she wish she knew.
"It's awake." Pym breathed. He stood up from his chair and went to get a closer look. Hope joined them.
"I am Groot!" Snapped the tree. Janet walked away for a moment and went digging in a box that was shelved under another table, which held computers. What she pulled out of the box was some foreign object. It looked like a communicator but it was too small to be one. Was it a tracking device?
Janet calmly handed Groot the device. He seemed to give her a confused look. She gestured for him to connect it to himself. He did what she asked; it snapped on like a pin. Groot smiles giddily to himself before looking at his captors.
"I am Groot." He said. A voice came from the device shortly after.
"Thank you."
"I am Groot?"
"Who are you guys?" Pym decided to introduce himself.
"I am Hank Pym," he said, "This is my wife, Janet, and that's my daughter, Hope."
"I am Groot."
"It's nice to meet you." Not a moment later, there was a signal going off.
"What's that?" Hope asked, as her Father walked to the computer. He scanned the screen then scanned it again.
"This can't be right." He uttered. Janet came up to him, with Groot in tow.
"What is it?"
"There's something moving around outside the town." He blankly said.
Proxima Midnight knew that her husband would be angered by this act of...recklessness. Or was it pride? She simply wanted to get back at that girl for shredding her to pieces. She was dealing out justice. The girl needed to pay for her death and killing her husband. Technically, Vision killed Corvus but the girl was close enough, to killing two birds with one stone.
Proxima approaches the outskirts of the town. A little bit of shrubbery could be seen in the distance. The most intriguing sight though was her target was staring her down from about 50 feet away. She sat on a large rock. One knee up, the other normally sitting on the rock. She had her elbow leaned against her raised knee.
She looked like she was waiting for her, for a very long time. Proxima smirked at her.
"Come to accept your fate?"
"Unlikely," Wanda spat, "Last time I checked, I can change your reality."
"That's a whole lot of bullshit you're speaking." Proxima cackled, "Change my reality. Look people die little girl, but don't worry, you will have your reality changed when I'm done with you."
"You talk too much." Wanda growled.
"And your intimidation tactics are poor." Chuckled Proxima. She grabbed her staff. Spun it around a couple of times and faced her. She then charged at Wanda. Wanda didn't seem fazed.
"Finally you stop talking." Wanda whined, "I was really looking to let off a little steam." With a flick of her hand, she sent Proxima flying through the dirt. She picked herself up and tried again. She decided to circle around Wanda, so she wouldn't be able to attack as easily.
"A moving target is harder to catch." Wanda huffed. Proxima saw an opening, and attempted to jab Wanda in the side. She was successful. Wanda seemed shocked that she managed to hit her.
Shortly, there after, Wanda turned into red wisps. Proxima was confused. How does that happen? A large tree came flying through the air. It her straight in the stomach. She went flying across the desolate land. Her gear was now covered in dirt of the outlands. Wanda took her time getting to Proxima. She wasn't going anywhere. The giant trapped her from escaping. Proxima writhed under the tree, trying to get free. She knew she had made a mistake. Since when was Wanda that powerful?
Wanda stood over her, with a murderous glare. She bent down to face the struggling alien.
"Liked my little mirage?" Wanda feigned excitement. "All trick I figured out after you tried to mess with me. You'll pay for hurting Vision. You'll pay for defiling his memory. You'll pay for creating something that isn't him."
"Killing me won't make anything better." Proxima grunted, "It's Thanos you want." Wanda smiles.
"That's just it. Your a pest. So you'll pay for hurting me. Your master will perish because he took everything from me."
"Hah, who knew a girl of your caliber was hiding all that power?" Proxima rasped, "Such a shame that I can not report this back to anyone."
"Didn't you say something to me, close to your death on Earth?" Wanda said thinking out loud. "Oh, yes. You will die alone." Wanda waved her hands close to her chest. A moment later, Wanda held the heart in my hand. She looked at the lifeless alien before her.
"When your master took Vision away from me...it felt like that."
Strange snapped his eyes open. He dashed out of the room. He spotted Sam and Bucky just hanging out in the hallways. He walked over to them.
"Is something wrong?" Bucky says concerned.
"Gear up." Strange commanded, "Our time has come."
"I'm sorry what?" Sam exclaimed. Strange continued walking. He stopped to see that he was disappearing.
"Back to Earth." Strange told them. "Our friends need our help." Shortly, he was no longer with them. Bucky disappeared too.
"What in hell-" Sam breathed as he disappeared as well.
Quill and Gamora were having a moment with each other on the roof. It was nice and quiet, the perfect place to think, be, or read a book. Gamora sat next to Quill, leaning into his embrace.
"It's nice to have some time together." Gamora sighed, "No disturbances." Quill smiled at her. He was happy, that she was happy. He didn't want this moment to end. He lost her and found her. He didn't care that he died. He didn't mind being anywhere as long as Gamora was by his side.
"Quill?!" Gamora gasped. Quill looked at himself. He was starting to fade once more.
"Why aren't you fading?" He asked. She gave him a sad expression, he never saw her wear. She stared at him with sadness, longing, pain...
"The sacrifice of the soul stone is eternal." Gamora said, "I will never be able to leave. My soul is trapped here for eternity." Quill began to cry. He just got her back. He didn't want to lose her forever. The last thing he saw was a tear run down Gamora's cheek.
"What's happening?" Asked Hope. She felt that she was dusting again.
"Hope!" Pym shouted. He tried to reach out for her hand, but she faded completely. Janet looked at Pym, she was fading away too.
"Not you too, Janet." Pym whimpered. She disappeared. Groot began to see himself fading as well.
"I am Groot."
"Looks like I'm going now." Groot faded away. Pym wasn't sure if he should have been happy that he was fading away too. It might be better than being stuck in this infinite realm.
Gamora looked distraught when Wanda landed on the roof. Wanda stared at her. Her back was turned to her. It seems that Wanda wanted Gamora to acknowledge her presence. She turned around a second later.
"Where have you been?!" Gamora growled. "We went looking for you." Wanda gave her a sad expression.
"I thank you for your kindness. I mourn for you, for you can not return from the dead like the rest of us." Wanda stated. Wanda nodded her head and before she knew it...she was seeing something familiar upon awakening.
"That's my story." Gamora said. "A little boring. Nothing compared to you, fighting your friend to jump off a cliff."
"Yes, I have many more stories." The woman said. "I didn't know there was anything going on in the stone."
"The Soul world is eternal." Gamora stated. "We are not destroyed by the destruction of the stone. It is it's own entity, Nat."
"I guess we just sit here then?" Natasha questioned.
"Forever, Yeah." Gamora answered. "We might as well make ourselves at home."
Nat smiled at her new found friend, "I guess we do."
