Chapter 3

My body felt like it had been thrown into a volcano, taken out, then dipped in acid. My insides felt like they were being rearranged and swapped with nails. To this day, I still have no idea exactly what our priestess gave us; But let me tell you, it wasn't nice, at all.

I woke up in a field. Everything was various shades of black and gray. I sat up and looked at the sky. Instead of seeing the blue, all the living are accustomed to, I saw images. The longer I looked at the snapshots, the more I recognized them. They were snippets of my life. My dad's smiling face looked down at me, his eyes twinkling at me, even in the black and white that colored everything around me. Slowly his face disappeared and was replaced by a picture of a boy I had never seen before. He had long floppy hair, and his eyes were shaped like almonds. Before I could examine the rest of him, his image faded leaving an empty gray ceiling above shimmering with stalagmites. Slowly I pulled myself up and began walking west. I don't know why, but "west" just...felt right.

I walked for ages it seemed, before anything appeared in the horizon. It was a castle with pointed towers and high arches.
