Chapter 14

The picture above is what I imagine what Eve looks like (in the 21st Century)

Much Love,

—-Dessie—-

I'm sitting in my math class again. Last night after I got home, I got a huge lecture from my guardian (did I mention that my "uncle" is the Lord of the Dead?) and he sentenced me to house arrest, school is exempted.

Now Dancelli, is on my case, making sure that I don't fall asleep again. She keeps giving me extra work and asking me to run things down to the office and whatnot. She's kept me so busy I haven't even been able to look behind me.

"Mrs. Muir? Are you with us still?" Mrs. Dancelli calls out to me again for the thirtieth time in the last five minutes.

"Yes, Mrs. Dancelli. I have a question though." Her eyebrows shoot up, "Will you please stop giving me work and asking if I'm awake."

"I'm sorry to put you on the spot," she replies in a voice that says she really isn't, "but, I'm just trying to ensure that everyone in class is working and being productive."

"Or you're just being a bitch." I mumble just loud enough for my neighbors to hear. Beside me "Julian" snickers and I immediately glare at him. The phone rings and sends Mrs. Dancelli racing back to the front of the class to answer it.

"Leila Dancelli speaking... yes... all three...now... okay thank you Thomas." SHe hangs up the phone and looks my way. "Eve, Julian, to the front office."

Akakios and I get out of our chairs and walk into the hallway.

"Are we going or not?" He asks expectantly.

"Well if you're ready, shall we proceed?" 'Julian' (can't get used to it) asks like he's trying to get himself stabbed.

"Fine." I say. We walk in silence the entire two minutes it takes for us to reach the office. Waiting for us is the vice principal and... Hades.

"Shit." I say quietly. Beside me Julian flinches.

"Eve." Hades smiles at me, then flicks his eyes towards Akakios. "Julian."

"Mr. Jones would like a word with the three of you. With the supervision of our lovely secretary, April." The vice principal says looking bored with the situation. He's completely unaware that he's standing in the same room as two ancient Greek gods. One is disguised as my guardian, the other posing as "April".

"You can use the third room on left down the hall. April, would you escort them?"

"Yes sir." She rises and glides across the room to the hallway's beginning. "Right this way."

We all follow her and she ushers us into the fairly large conference room. "Mr. Jones" sits at the head of the table and beckons the rest of us to sit as well. I choose the seat just opposite Hades, and Julian takes a seat on my other side, leaving a chair between us. "April" takes her place next to Hades. For a few awkward seconds, we all just sit there. Hades takes a deep breath and begins,

"Now you must be wondering why I've gathered you here today..." Everyone laughs, going back to the day Hades explained our fate. "Sorry I had to. Anyway, I just wanted to discuss somethings with you all. Persephone darling would you get us something to eat." He says looking at "April". She waves her hand slightly, and an array of fruits and veggies appears, along with a single sheet of cookies.

"Voila." Persephone says smiling warmly at Hades.

I've always craved that kind of love. The never-fading, eternal love that never dies. I mean it's completely unrealistic and all, but I can't help but believe in something like that. Here are 2 people in love, and still in love as the day Hades brought his bride home. The story of how they got married is wrong. Persephone loved Hades as much as he loved her. But Demeter wouldn't have it. That's why Hades had to "kidnap" her. Not because he's awful. Because he loved her. Even now, millennium later they still look like at each other like they were married yesterday.

¨Thank you Seph. Are they your famous cookies, by chance?¨ I ask hoping that they indeed are the world famous white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies.

¨But of course, I know they're your favorite, Eve. The pomegranates are on the other side Julian. Stop messing with the tangerines." Persephone is like my second mom. Except she's never bailed on me. And she won't ever die. She's a better mom than I deserve.
