"Sure why not?" Keep cool. It's just coincidence.

"For you my lady." He hands me a shiny little penny. I take it and murmur a little prayer to Zeus and Athena. When I look back at the boy, he's looking at me with a smug grin on his face.

"What?" I say fighting the stutter that wants to appear.

"Nothing, just trying to figure out what a girl like you could wish for." He says looking toward the fountain.

"Maybe a better guardian. Or a new group of friends. Or maybe just a different life in general."

"Wishing fountains aren't made for wishes like that." He smiles at me, "But dandelions are." He walks over to the small patch of greenery that was originally used for flowers, but is now just grass. He bends and picks a wishing flower and brings it to me.

"Try again." I do. But instead of a prayer, I make a real wish.

"Thanks. My name's Eve. If you were wondering." I say trying to find an exit.

"I know who you are. You're in Mrs. Dancelli's 3rd period. I sit two rows behind you." He says.

"I have no idea who you are." Not a total lie on my part. It may have just been my imagination but he looked kind of hurt.

"Well I'm Ari. Now you know." He waved and walked into the crowd.
