Chapter 11
"He's here." I text to Sera (who also didn't have to change her name).
Immediately my phone dings and her message fills the screen.
"Ur kidding."God I hate text slang.
"Yes; and remember who you're talking to." I text back.
"Sorry forgot. How do you know he's there in.... where are you again?"Dear gods she has the memory of a goldfish.
"Oregon honey. Oregon. In this dingy little town."
"That's right. Forgot sorry. Anyway, you sure it's him?"
"Yea. It's him. We talked."
"How'd that go. (You don't have to answer)"
"(But you want me to)"
"(Yep)"
"Gotta go"
I turn my phone off and throw it on the floor. I flop down on my bed and look at my ceiling. I painted it to look like Van Gogh's "Starry Night".
"Eve? You okay?" God not him, not now.
"I'm okay. You don't need to take time from your busy schedule of death to check on me."
"Last time I checked, I do. How was school today?" Is he really going to talk to me through the door?
"Fine. Fell asleep again though." Maybe I shouldn't have told him that.
"No new students?" He knows. Of course he knows. He put him there. God I'm an idiot. I stand up and walk over to the window. I slowly lift it up and climb out. I am so not having that conversation again. I slide down the roof to the ladder we keep on the side of the house. I climb down the ladder and start to jog.
I keep jogging until I end up on main street. I slow myself to a walk and look around. Loads of people are still walking up and down the wide sidewalks at ten o'clock at night. I try to blend into the crowd as much as possible, and follow the wave of people. I end up in Central Plaza before the crowd dissipates. In the center of the Plaza there is this huge fountain built for whatever reason, and it's surprisingly pretty. Having nothing to do, I walk my way up to the huge thing and sit on the edge of the fountain, letting my hand drop down into the water.
"Want to make a wish?" I voice says behind me.
I turn around and see the boy from my dreams.
