02 | Paisley

"We have a mission for you."

I sigh as I enter the house after my first day of school, the others still linger outside. Vincent walks into the room seconds after dads announcement, my little brothers dark eyes widening comically.

"Can I go too?"

At only eight years old? The boy was already planning to take on the world.

Dad chuckles and ruffles Vincent's hair and my brother stumbles away, fixing the locks.

"Dad!" He whines and glares at him.

"Not yet, you have to pass your training first."

"I'm the best in my class!"

"You're the only one in your class." I remind him.

"Shut up, Paisley."

"Make me, squid."

"Dad! Tell sourly to fuck off."

"Language." Dad thunders, halting down at Vincent. I snicker slightly before sobering when dads glare lands on me.

He spins back to Vincent. "Who taught you that word?"

"Who do you think?"

"Liam!" Dad yells and Vincent laughs before running off.

Dad glares up the stairs where he no doubt knows Uncle Liam is.

"Yes, daddy dearest?" Uncle Liam's voice erupts and I look around to find where it came from.

"Get down here." Dad glares at the PA system I never noticed we had, must be new.

"No can do, papa bear."

"Liam!"

"Archer, let it go. We have to speak to Pais remember."

Dad glares one more time at the system before stomping away.

I follow my parents up the flight of stairs and walk into the meeting room. I take a seat as they walk around the table and dad turns on the projector, setting it up.

"It's come to our attention that a targets two children go to your school." Mum begins, her blonde hair in a ponytail.

I lift a brow "and?"

"Why'd we have a teenager?" I hear dad mumble. I grab the pen off the desk, throwing it at him, it flies past his head, skimming his ear before bouncing off the wall.

"Paisley!"

"What? It slipped." I grin at him and see my mum biting her lip to stop herself from laughing.

Dad rolls his hazel eyes, running a hand through his brunette hair and taking a seat in front of me, smirking at me.

"Do you want the mission or not?"

I narrow my eyes.

"Yes." I grumble.

"Then pay attention."

I lift a brow for him to continue.

He rolls his eyes back at me.

"Our target, Giovanni Vitale, is the boss of the Italian Mafia. His sons Alessio and Enzo Vitale attend your school. We want you to infiltrate and take him down by going through his sons."

"Is that all?"

"Is that-" Dad growls under his breath, looking up at my mum.

"You need to be careful Paisley; Giovanni Vitale is a strange man. In recent years, the crime has more than tripled. He has filled his pockets with more blood money than previously in his career as a crime boss. He's got his hands in a lot of illegal workings, human trafficking being one of them, so I want you to be careful, all of you"

"Mum, you and dad raised me. I'll be careful."

Dad scoffs and mutters under his breath. "It's because she helped raise you, I know you won't be careful."

"But you also raised me." I remind him.

"Am I any better than your mother? We are both reckless, Holland more than me." He shakes his head and slides a file over to me.

I catch it with a hand and flip it open as the projector lights up and shows the faces of two boys on the screen.

Alessio and Enzo Vitale.

"Hey, isn't that the boy from the hallway." Comes a very distinct voice as the door opens the rest of the way and all of my teammates stumble in, taking their spots.

Their parents flow in behind them, lining the walls with strict features.

"This is your first real mission, don't mess it up." Uncle Liam grins as he takes a seat on the floor, looking up at us with twinkling blue eyes.

The collective sighs from the rest of the parents bring a smile to my lips.

"We won't." We chorus.

"Start planning." Mum nods her head and begins to leave. All of them follow except for Liam who pouts as he slowly slides up the wall to a standing position. He mutters under his breath. "I just sat down."

The door shuts behind him and I glance at everyone, passing them each a piece of papers from the file.

"I think you should be the one to infiltrate through the oldest brother, since you guys already had a moment." Reid wiggles his brows.

"We didn't have a moment; I dropped my books."

"Dropped your books, dropped your panties, what's the difference?"

"Reid. Focus."

"He's right." Artemis interrupts, grinning. "You may not have had a moment, but you have an in, so take it."

I breathe out, knowing they're both right.

"Fine, I'll use him. What about you guys?"

"K-I-S-S-"

"Vincent!" I erupt and push away from the table. My little brothers smiling face appears in front of me before he pays my shoulder condescendingly. "Am I gonna be an uncle soon?"

"Get out!" I point to the door and his cheeky smirk erupts before he swaggers to the door.

The door shuts behind him and I breathe out.

"What about you guys?" I ignore the smirks around the table and her back to the topic at hand.

"I can try Harley; we've already been introduced." Artemis says.

"I can try Enzo" Windsor speaks up, eyes bright with the challenge.

"No!" Ry interrupts, "Reid should, they'll get suspicious if all three of you are focused on one of them."

"They'll get suspicious if we have any one of us on all of them, just focus on Alessio and the girl." I say, "Leave Enzo for later, after we've established a friendship."

I look at Ryland and Windsor. "I want you to find any information on the Mafia, on Giovanni. Anything you can find." They nod their heads.

I look at Reid, "We need weapons, any helpful items, anything you can find also. We need a way to contact each other without drawing suspicion."

"Phones are a thing." Artemis interrupts. "And teenagers always have phones."

"Okay." I nod and look at Windsor. "But I want better phones, they need to be able to gain access to anything in case you or Ry aren't around." She nods, mind working overtime.

Ryland takes after his father, Clay, with his computer hacking skills. While Reid takes after Aunt Cleo with the bomb making and weapons. The brains and the braun.

Windsor turned out like Aunt Andy, though I always find she can be a little like Uncle Liam in certain ways. All brains with a little chaos mixed in. Or a lot, depends on the day and the situation.

And Artemis, she likes getting her hands dirty, so it was hard to say which parent she took after. I like to think she takes after Aunt Lilac the most.

And me, I'd like to say I take after my mother, but I know I have a lot of my father in me too.

"Ready to play?" I ask as I stand up.

"Ready to win." They reply.

And it should be fun.
