The Raw Reaction

A/N: As usual, I would recommend putting the video on loop.

Moving off of the bed, (f/n) touched her feet to the floor and slipped off of the white comforter. Her eyes shifted over to the chair that Ether was sitting on. He understood what she wanted, but he was reluctant to hand it over since it meant that she would be positioning herself closer to her father. After their fight, he'd rather her not be over by him, but he released a drawn-out sigh and stood up. Unfortunately, he was going to have to get over that fight if he planned on living with (f/n) and her parents for the rest of his life.

Before she could grab the chair, though, he picked it up and started to walk over towards the older male, who watched his every action carefully. (F/n) nor Ether blamed her father for such behavior given what Ether was capable of. The only reason both of them were alive was because he wanted/needed them that way.

Setting the chair down by the table, Ether stood off to the left side of her chair while she came over and sat down. She moved the chair closer to her father, and her hands rested on her lap while her father faced her completely. There was a dense air between them. When her (e/c) eyes met his own (e/c) optics, she let a soft sigh part from her. It sounded tired and confused. "Dad, what happened?"

Breaking their gaze, he pushed his right hand back against his hair. "Like I had said, we celebrated." He leaned back on the chair. "We had been so overjoyed to hear that you were alright after learning from Ether that you had been kidnapped by that other creature. After that first call, our emotions were so high that we couldn't contain ourselves." (D/n) leaned forward and rested his head in his hands. "We were worried, despite Ether telling us that the other creature wouldn't kill you before he got there, that you were dead. We were worried that if you were alive, you would die the instant Ether found you."

He smiled over to her. It looked bitter but not regretful since the memory of that night was a fond one even though now his actions produced such a grim scenario. "But, you weren't. You were alive and would make a full recovery." (D/n) dragged his hands down his face as if that would help remedy the present circumstance. "We had no intention of your mother getting pregnant."

"Then ..."

Looking to his daughter again, he clarified, "When I first told you we celebrated, I was in a panicked, high intensity emotional state. I shortened it to just celebrating because I was too worried about your mother and sibling's safety that I wasn't in the mindset to explain myself." He gave a short, bitter laugh. "Now, I realize that it sounds like we just skipped to that after your call. That wasn't the case at all."

"Mom and you had margaritas, didn't you?" Her father nodded. "And, a movie night?" He nodded again. Somewhat, (f/n) smiled a little, glad to hear that her parents still were able to enjoy their life a little after everything that had happened. That smile faded quickly, however, since the present situation was so dreadful.

"We probably had too many. A stupid decision." He shook his head. "We probably should've just gone to sleep after the last movie, but our emotions being heightened and our minds being affected by the liquor led to us staying up longer."

Once more, he leaned forward and rested his head in his hands. "All the odds, though, were against her becoming pregnant. Her cycle just had ended. She was only on day eight, and even as an irregular, she shouldn't have been ovulating. At least, that's incredibly uncommon." Ether would've been confused by some of the terminology had he not studied female anatomy back when he was researching a way for (f/n) to carry his child and survive. Neither (f/n) or her father took much notice of Ether during the conversation, though. They were too wrapped in it. "Not to mention, the chances are slimmer given our ages. And, your mother after you has had difficulty becoming pregnant."

"Wait, becoming pregnant?" (F/n) furrowed her brows before she hesitantly asked, "Then, she has been other times?"

Meeting his daughter's gaze, he nodded. "We were planning on having more children, but your mother had miscarriages early on in her pregnancies even when we tried fertility. Even those times were few. Most of the time, she wouldn't become pregnant at all."

"Why ..."

"We didn't wish to worry you. We wanted you to enjoy your life and not concern yourself over your parents ... Now ..." Leaning back on the chair, a frown formed on her father's lips at the memory of those incidents as well as what was going on currently, but he forced it away quickly. "Besides, we didn't want to keep getting your hopes up that you might have a brother or sister."

"But if mom's had miscarriages before, do you think ..." She trailed off, not wanting to suggest that, especially after what had happened.

"It's possible that the baby she has now might not make it." A glare set on his face, and his hands clenched. "And, the stress that other creature is putting her under certainly isn't helping." (F/n) moved closer and rested a hand on his left shoulder. She gave it a gentle squeeze to help him calm down a little even if, internally, she was freaking out. Her father gave her an appreciative smile and rested his hand over hers before he gave it a gentle squeeze.

Dropping his hand back down, he continued, "But needless to say, we never intended for her to become pregnant." Frustration formed over his countenance, and (f/n) removed her hand so that he could adjust on the chair better to get more comfortable. "I know that I keep saying that, but the whole thing was so unexpected. It's part of why I was panicking so much this morning. When we had found that out, we were overjoyed but also incredibly worried." His eyes glanced over to Ether momentarily before they fell back on his lap. "Even with that other creature out of the picture ..."

"I'm not going to attack your kid or your wife for that matter." Both of them looked over to Ether. "I just got my pink flower closer to me. I'm not going to jeopardize that." His tone was curt and didn't have any deception in it, but (d/n) was skeptical of his claims. "I promise." (D/n) practically scoffed, but (f/n)'s gaze grew firm on Ether.

"Do you?" she asked, a fire sparking in her eyes, like it had before the other creature ever had come into the picture.

"I do." He crossed his arms over his chest. "I'm not going through all of this effort to help your family, (f/n), just so that I can kill them later on."

(F/n) glanced over to her father, who continued to seem doubtful, but he didn't question Ether on the subject. It was evident, though, that (d/n) would be monitoring Ether extremely close and that he gladly would lose rationality to attack Ether head on to defend his baby from being killed by Ether. Focusing back on his daughter, he sighed deeply. "I know what we did was foolish due to all of the risks. We weren't thinking clearly, but I ... I ..."

"You still want to keep the baby safe," (f/n) finished for him. She gave her father a small smile. "I want to too." (F/n) stood up from her chair and kneeled in front of her father. Her hands clasped around his. "Once we get them back, we'll do everything to make sure that she has the baby safely." Every word was spoken with a gentle tone, but there was a quality to it that was directed at Ether, and he understood the message well. Don't break your promise.

"Then, you're not mad at us?"

Shaking her head, she smiled to her father again. "No. The timing is terrible, and mom's and your decision probably wasn't the best, but I understand it." A bitter, yet reassuring laugh parted from her lips. Ether felt his heart skip a beat, but as usual, her laugh was coming from a horrible situation, and that caused him inwardly to sigh since that knowledge did hurt a little. "Besides, timing always isn't going to be the best for us, but that doesn't mean that you should let it rule your decisions." Despite her message, her father comprehended the meaning behind it. Ether always was going to be around, and she didn't want them to feel like they had to concern themselves with him every minute of their lives; Ether was her main problem, and she would do her best to handle him.

"If need be, I always can move." A pained smile hit her lips at the memory of the conditions in the subway. "Ether and I ..."

"No. We're not kicking you out because we may be having a baby." (D/n) looked directly over to Ether. "You're staying with us, and we'll work it out." Ether shrugged and didn't seem affected by her father's glare at all. Her father only scowled more before he concentrated back on his daughter. "It may be selfish and, maybe, not the wisest decision, but I don't want you to be separated from your sibling because of him."

Ether didn't say a word. Despite his irritation at her father, he understood where he was coming from. Besides, he could tell that (f/n) didn't want to leave behind her family, and he liked the living accommodations as well. So, it would work out, and Ether closed his eyes momentarily to give the father and daughter a moment to themselves as one hugged the other.
