The Sillier Quest

A/N: As usual, I would recommend putting the video on loop.

Everything had seemed fine back on Saturday. The group hadn't seemed upset by him, but that was then. This was now. Despite his worry at their possible change in attitude, Oliver was happy that he was away from home. Grounded until winter break, and the group knew that. Not to mention that his parents put in new codes throughout all of the alarms, and he probably had no hope of finding them, but he would get out if need be. He wasn't going to let his parents keep him from working on the paranormal group's plans. Sure, he understood why he was grounded, and, maybe, what he was doing was dangerous, but so what? It was his decision. They could ground him and yell at him, but that wouldn't change his mind; they had found one of the creature's hairs, and they were getting somewhere!

It was exciting, and he was getting what he wanted. Or, he hoped so anyway. If they were mad at him for his parents calling, he might get tossed out. Then, things would completely and utterly suck. The thought caused his feet to drag towards the cafeteria. Steadily, he walked in. Upon entry, his optics searched the room until they found the table where they were at.

Gretchen's dark brown orbs met his own brown ones, and a smirk fell upon her lips. He couldn't tell whether that was a good or bad sign. Inwardly, he gulped. Her intimidating aura never failed to affect him it seemed. When he reached the table, he hesitantly took a seat. Instantly, Gretchen swung her right arm over his shoulders, and her smirk morphed into a full-blown grin. "You're finally here, Oli!"

"Yeah," he muttered nervously, glancing over to the other two. Leon was staring at Terry with amusement while she analyzed a small bottle around her neck as though it was an engagement ring. Oliver narrowed his eyes some to see that inside of the bottle was the creature's hair.

"We let her have it," Gretchen clarified as she chuckled some. "As soon as I mentioned it, she went all puppy-dog eyes on me. Now, she won't look away."

A dreamy sigh parted from Terry's lips. "That's because I finally have some of it. I can only imagine when it'll be the entire creature." She sighed again and leaned against Leon some.

"But, you'll let me perform tests on it, right, if I need to?" Leon asked, wrapping an arm around her waist as she nuzzled against him. He received a light nod from her while she twirled the bottle between her fingers, and he smirked in the process before he looked over to Gretchen. "So, what's our next step?"

Her grin stretched more across her lips. She looked to all of them, and Oliver grinned a little back, but it noticeably was forced. Gretchen raised an eyebrow. "Something the matter, Oli?" Some of the distance between them closed, and her smile almost was the definition of threatening. "You're not bailing on us, are you?"

"What?! No!" he swiftly yelled. A slight blush dashed across his cheeks when he noticed some heads in the cafeteria turn towards him. "Sorry," he mumbled before he met her gaze again. "It's just ... Well ... I ..."

"The call from his parents," Leon mentioned as an entertained expression crossed his countenance. "He's worried that we're pissed off at him." A chuckle escaped him before he shook his head. "Don't worry about it." Oliver averted his attention more to Leon, who shrugged. "You found a hair of its. That makes up for the call. We now know that the creature really had been there and in their daughter's room."

Pouting some, Terry mumbled, "It's so unfair. She got to sleep in the same bed as it." Leon patted the top of her head while she glared to the bottle.

"Remember, Terry." Slightly, she stared up to her friend. "You're putting it in a cage. You don't want to sleep in a cage, do you?"

Hesitation crossed her purple optics. "... Well, maybe, on some nights." She diverted her eyes back to the bottle and rubbed her thumbs across the glass gently. "It's really attractive according to description."

By that point, Oliver glanced over to Gretchen, who chuckled a bit and smirked. "Eh, it's her desire. Let her have it and do what she wants with it. As long as it doesn't die, I could care less." She removed her arm from Oliver's shoulders and crossed both over her chest while her smirk indicated that she knew something very tempting to the group. Oliver, though, simply was happy that they didn't hate him for his parents calling. He was still in the group!

"Now, our next step," Gretchen began as she leaned back some and propped her right leg up and over her left one, "is traveling to an amusement park." Leon raised a brow in confusion and interest while Terry widened her eyes in glee at the prospect. Oliver simply was puzzled. A chuckle parted from her. "Then, none of you saw the news." Three shakes of the head answered her. "Right." Her thin lips somewhat stretched out more into a grin. "Well, just wait for this."

Uncrossing her arms, she pressed her palms into the seat and leaned back. "Apparently, a teenager went missing at Castle Lake Amusement Park after his classmates and teachers had seen him on the tour bus. Before him, three people at a diner disappeared too, and the diner was clean from head to toe."

"There's something even better, isn't there?" Leon inquired as Terry and he shared a curious and excited stare before they both returned their attention to Gretchen.

"Yes, there is." Her right foot kicked up and down some. "The night that the people at the diner went missing is the same night that Oli here visited the (l/n) residence."

"Wait, then ..." Oliver was at a loss from words. That was way too convenient.

"Exactly." She smirked over to him before she averted her focus to everyone at the table. "And, both of these places are heading away from the town, meaning that the creature ran when you found it, Oli."

"It wouldn't run, though!" Terry cried out quietly. She shook her head, and her purple curls bounced around her head. "It just wouldn't. It's not scared of people." Oliver agreed on that point; he easily could've been killed by that thing that night.

"Then, what are you thinking, Terry?" Leon questioned as he twirled a few of her locks between his fingers.

Biting on her lower lip some in thought, she furrowed her brows too before she responded with a slightly annoyed tone. "It's got to be with their daughter. It's traveling with her, and it ... It didn't want to lose her, so it left."

"It's a good theory," Gretchen responded back as she kicked her foot some more. She hummed a little in thought before she continued, "Either way, we're going to this amusement park. It's the end of the creature's known trail. Whether the (l/n) girl is with it or not doesn't matter. We're going to catch it regardless." She tilted her head towards Leon. "You can get us the tickets, right?"

"Yeah, it'll be easy, but it might take some time. My parents are out of town, and getting a hold of them on their business trips is a pain in the a**." He groaned at the thought.

"They didn't leave you money like the last time they left?" Terry asked, sitting up more again but letting Leon continue to wrap his one arm around her waist. "Can't you buy the tickets yourself?"

"No, they didn't leave any money behind, and they removed the box that had spare cash in it." He rolled his eyes. "Apparently, they didn't like us using it to go to haunted locations."

"You sure it wasn't because they found out you knew how to drive and took their car for the trip?" Gretchen quirked a brow, and he shrugged in amusement. Oliver looked to Leon slightly shocked, but the male only grinned back to him. "Is that last caretaker still with you after that?"

"No. She was great, though. Never bothered with what I was doing and made great food." Terry gave him a worried look, though; it didn't exactly seem genuine either. Rather, Oliver noted that she, in actuality, appeared ready to hurt him in some manner. Leon, however, simply patted her on the head again, but the glare in her optics didn't let up. "Don't worry. I got another one. My parents chose her, but she won't stop us once we get the money. She'll come with us, but she won't think anything odd of it."

"Wait, why would your parents give you the money?" Oliver asked confused. "Won't they keep it from you after what you did the last time?"

Chuckling some, Leon shook his head. "Don't worry. I know how to convince them once I get a hold of them." Terry relaxed again and picked up her blackberry soda before she took a joyful sip. Leon averted his attention back to Gretchen. "Well?"

"It's perfect. Once we get the tickets, we'll get out of here." She glanced over to Oliver, who seemed concerned, and she smirked. "Don't worry, Oli. We'll sneak you out of your home for the trip."
