The Madder Scream

A/N: As usual, I would recommend putting the video on loop.

As if she was watching someone open a door at a painful pace in a horror movie, she observed him withdraw his fingers back to him. The creature rubbed the tips together while his optics stayed pinned to them. (F/n) steadily began to walk backwards. Not a word left her. Even if she wanted to say something, she couldn't. Her throat felt constricted, and her heartbeat was beginning to hammer in her chest, which only made matters worse.

"Funny," he finally spoke, rubbing his fingers together still. "Your hair," a giggle parted from him, "it feels ... fake." His eyes gradually met hers again. He tilted his head a bit before he giggled again, and she wished that her mind only was playing tricks on her again; she desired the present moment just to be a one awful nightmare. She would wake up back in the apartment and find a normal work day ahead of her. "And, your heart is really going?" The creature placed his right hand back in the hoodie's pocket. "Are you scared?" His tone grew slightly high-pitched, and she felt fear wrap its tendrils around her like seaweed grasping for someone to join it in the depths of the ocean.

(F/n) couldn't help but gulp, and he took several steps towards her. Her hands gripped the straps of her backpack hard, and she walked backwards more. "My hair, it ..." She didn't even realize that her voice had reverted back to its usual because of the terror racing through her.

"Don't lie," he giggled out, grinning now, but his grin was anything but friendly. A pit formed in her stomach, and she wondered if she would be able to last any longer in the game. Before either of them said anything else, he raced towards her. Somehow, she managed to throw herself into the street just in time to dodge him; however, not all of her dodged him.

When she looked back up, he was holding the wig in his right hand while her (h/l) (h/c) wet locks fell around her face. "Isn't that odd?" The creature switched his attention down to her as she managed to pick herself up into a sitting position. Thankfully, she had her gloves on to help with the coldness of the street against her hands, but the cold was the least of her concerns. A giggle hit her ears. "You have the same hair length and color as my pink flower."

Stashing the wig into his duffel bag so that it wouldn't be found, the creature faced her fully. "And, your voice a few moments ago sounded like hers too, but your eyes ..." He leaned forward and grinned inhumanely. "You're wearing contacts, aren't you?" She crawled back some to create more distance. "Why don't you remove them?" (F/n) didn't respond. An eyebrow of his twitched, and she practically could feel the rage radiating off of him. His voice dropped by several tones, and he ordered, "Take them out now, or I'll do it."

Knowing that he intended to keep that promise, she reached up and felt her heartbeat increase to an amount she didn't think possible. Steadily, she took out the (different e/c) contacts and tossed them over to him. "Ah, there you are (f/n)." Her heart froze, and she didn't dare meet his gaze. He bent over and picked them up before the contacts joined the wig. "You did also have that wonderful smell to you, but I just wanted to be sure before I got my hopes up." The creature giggled once more, but it wasn't high-pitched at all. "And, about the grocery ..."

"You still haven't won," she managed to speak without stuttering. Slowly, she picked herself up to her feet, and she felt his eyes follow her every move. Daringly, she locked her optics onto his. Her legs shook, but she stood her ground. She had to, or she would lose tonight. "So, you're not going to take a bite out of me any time soon."

To her surprise, her declaration only made him release a drawn-out sigh. Momentarily, his eyes looked to his right, and he shook his head. "I don't know about that, (f/n)." He returned his gaze to hers, and a mixture of pure anger, relief, bloodlust and love swirled in his very pale blue orbs. A low giggle parted from him. "Do you have any idea how pissed off you made me?" Cautiously, she stepped back from him more.

"I ..."

"Let me talk." She silenced herself immediately at the threat in his tone. Seeing her comply, he nodded in rough approval and began again, "For about three weeks, I was searching for you in Gracious Falls." He took a step forward, and she moved one back. "All the while, I had to think about whom you escaped with and what you were doing with them." The creature removed his right hand from the pocket and took off his sunglasses so that he could meet her gaze completely.

With a careful ease, he folded the glasses and placed them in the duffel bag before he pinned his optics onto hers again and endured the slight pain from the streetlights still working around them. "And, what do I find out?" (F/n) felt paralyzed as she noted what he was implying. Just how much did he know? "You joined up with lovely f*cking Nick and his new band of idiotic investigators."

It was as though a loud cracking sound resonated in her ears, and it took all of her willpower not to look in the direction of their house. "H-H ..."

"Oh?" he asked and giggled, but no amusement shone in his orbs. "How did I find out?" Another giggle, though, this time, it sounded almost like a chuckle. "You'll never guess." She didn't say a word, and he closed the gap between them more, only for her to increase it again. "You're not going to guess?" (F/n) didn't even shake her head, and he smirked. "Well, you do know when to keep quiet ... most of the time." If frost was eating up her limbs, she wouldn't be surprised with how utterly cold and sick she felt presently.

"Turns out that Oliver led a group of lunatic kids to me." He giggled, but he still didn't look happy. "After I played with them a little bit and burned off some steam as you humans say, I found out where you were hiding along with the identities of those you escaped with." His smirk morphed into a maddening grin. "You have no idea how much I want to torture that son of a b*tch right now along with his companions." The creature moved forward again, and she stepped backwards; however, her horror was overcoming her sense of surroundings, and her foot hit the edge of the other sidewalk.

Instantly, she fell flat onto her bottom and held back the moan of discomfort she almost released. He smirked again at her fall before he crouched in front of her, and she scooted back some. "And, I'm going to do that right in front of you." The creature reached forward, and she dodged by leaning back, but that caused her to fall onto her back. Quickly, she supported herself up by her elbows. Snow soaked into her jacket more, but she ignored the sensation currently.

Humming in amusement this time, he stood back up fully. "Don't you look tempting, my pink flower." The creature chuckled and licked his lips. Hurriedly, she got to her feet and distanced herself from him. A sadistic pout played on his lips before he cocked his neck to his left. "But, I'll wait on that right now. I want you to answer a question." Hesitantly, she nodded her head since that would give her some time to create even more distance.

"Good girl." He giggled again, and that eased her a bit since it wasn't his unnerving chuckle that usually spelled out horrible news for the person it was directed at. Then again, he had chuckled already that evening at her. If he caught her, she imagined that the remainder of the night would be absolute agony. "If you had shaken your head, I probably would have you pressed up against a tree by now and taken some dessert." Her stomach turned horribly at the thought. "Now, why do I smell a very faint scent of Nick's on your jacket?"

At that point, she thought that she might faint. How did he remember Nick's scent from about a year ago? The last time he had been near Nick, Nick had that old perfume on. And, how was his scent on her jacket? She did suppose that she had been around him with it on before, but she never considered that the creature would pick up on that if he found her.

Unfortunately, her silence only made things worse, and the creature narrowed his eyes in a deadly fashion. "Well?" His tone fell again, but words failed her. Only an incomprehensible jumble of syllables parted from her. "That's not what I wanted to hear, (f/n)." The creature's left hand moved some in the one pocket, and she moved back some shakily. "Do you want to try again?"

"Why does it matter?" she managed out, her voice somewhat strong. "You're going to torture ..."

"What did he do?!" This time, she froze like a statue. Her eyes widened, and she didn't know how to react. Never had she heard him yell like that. It was almost a shriek, a death cry even, as if he needed her answer to keep him sane and alive. (F/n) managed to regain herself somewhat, but only from the worry that someone else had heard. She heard a lock turning nearby, the house next to them.

Right then, it was as if they both forgot about the situation before they bolted for the trees and bushes between the houses. Crossing the street from the gated apartment complex had worked out in her favor surprisingly. Soon, both of them hid behind a tree and remained absolutely quiet. The homeowner walked out and glanced around the street, and a frightened expression was on her countenance, which made sense.

Several minutes passed before things went quiet again on the street. (F/n) sighed in relief before she remembered who was a few feet from her. Slowly, she turned her head towards him, and she jumped slightly as his eyes already were on her. He pushed himself off the tree and gradually closed the distance between them. "What did he do?" he repeated, this time quieter, but his tone was just as desperate. But, she found herself unable to answer.
