The Keener Travels
A/N: As usual, I would recommend putting the video on loop.
As the ride went lower and lower, she still couldn't spot the creature in the park, and it didn't help that her whole view of the area was becoming smaller with time. She folded the map up, knowing her next destination and possible stops along the way. (F/n) finished the rest of her smoothie. If she needed both of her hands for something, now she'd have them. Her heartbeat was steady, but terror remained in her veins. The creature's location was unknown to her, and he could pop out of anywhere.
The ride stopped, and the door to her left opened. She stepped out and hurried off of the metal steps leading up to the wheel. (F/n) discarded her empty drink into recycling and headed towards the lake as she decided not to purchase a hat from the stall still since she remained concerned about the creature noting her purchase. Her optics occasionally stared towards the pines and bushes, watching for any movement within them. None greeted her so far.
Thankfully, there weren't too many individuals with a black hoodie on. Otherwise, the creature would've had an easier time blending in, especially since he was wearing shoes. (F/n) diverted her attention towards the fast-paced roller coaster and grimaced when she saw several people dispose of throw-up bags. She made an excellent decision on not boarding that ride, and it made her stomach turn horribly when saw some people purchase a chili dog before stepping into the line for the ride.
Shifting her eyes away, she paused. Up ahead, there was a figure. All black clothes were on the man, and his hands were in his hoodie's pockets. He was standing in front of the souvenir shop, and his shielded gaze was presumably on a pair of dolls: a prince and princess. His head shifted up before his attention focused on her. A slight grin tugged at his pale lips, and his sunglasses hid his probably gleaming optics. (F/n) felt her heart skip a dreadful beat.
Facing her fully, he started to walk towards her. She took a step back before she turned to her right and headed for the bushes. It was either that or the fence blocking off the nearby lake. There weren't any other people around except for the shop owner, who couldn't see her, either. Her feet didn't stop, and they carried her through the branches as she held up her arms to protect her face from the pine needles. Steps sounded behind her, and branches on the grass snapped.
"(F/n), I just want to ask you a question." His sing-song tone sent a chill up her spine, especially when a giggle parted from him. "It's rude to keep running," he commented, a mock pout forming on his lips. She didn't listen even when his footsteps halted. A sigh left him, and she hoped that he was done and decided to give her another break.
To her horror, she heard branches now snap widely behind her and racing steps. Her heart pounded, and she darted harder through the plants. Up ahead, she saw the main path again. (F/n) pushed her legs more and practically leaped out of the trees to land on the path. She spun around to face the flora and saw that his right hand just was lowering from being lifted up into the air.
(E/c) optics fixed on him as she rested her hands on her knees. A smirk was upon his lips, though; she nearly jumped into the air when another voice hit her ears. "What are you two doing?" a worker with the park asked, clearly irritated that they had been running through the trees.
Looking over, she gave a nervous smile. The creature, however, giggled some apologetically. "Sorry, we won't do it again. We were just playing a game of tag."
Skepticism was written across the woman's stern face, and she shook her head. "Well, play it outside of the plants." He grinned a bit to her and nodded. (F/n) simply nodded, and she wondered if the worker was the next meal on the creature's list. That gleam in his eyes said that she very well could be. Hopefully, though, he decided to snack on some food in his duffel bag.
Rolling her eyes, the woman walked off to continue about her park duties. Obviously, she doubted the fact that they were playing tag even if they actually were in the creature's mind, but it was evident that she didn't care to investigate more into the matter. When she was out of earshot, the creature smirked. "What should I eat first of her?" A giggle left him. "Maybe, an arm or a leg. She did interrupt our game." Irritation sparked in his shielded eyes, and his tone became a little lower.
"She was doing her job. Leave her alone." The creature shook his head. "Don't you have enough food already?"
"I suppose that I could save her for dinner. Maybe, chill her first in the lake." Another giggle escaped past his lips. "A cold soup does sound refreshing." She about gagged at the thought. He grinned and shrugged. "Not my fault you don't like it. Anyway, I really did want to ask you something."
Crossing her arms, she tried not to express her fear, but she was certain that he saw it easily. With a slight movement of her head, she indicated for him to continue. "Those dolls," his head tilted in the direction of the shop, "do you want one?" He rocked back and forth on his heels. "You could keep the prince, and I'll take the princess? We'd each have a little plush of each other."
Not impressed, she stated bluntly, "No. I'm not your princess, and you're most certainly not my prince."
"Princesses can be murderers too, and princes can be victims." He shrugged. "I thought that it might keep you warm at night." A playful smirk tugged at his lips. "You have to admit that I was good at doing that during the colder nights these past seven months." Fingers gripping her upper arms, she released a long, annoyed sigh. Her silence increased his smirk. "You're not denying it, my little helper," he sang out as he rocked back and forth all the more.
"Maybe, you did, but that doesn't mean anything." She pointed an accusing finger at him. "You're the one who removed most of the blankets during the colder nights so that I would have to cuddle you in order not to be a shivering mess despite the heater being on."
"Well, I did want some willing affection from you." Another shrug left him. "You forced my hand."
Rubbing the bridge of her nose, she scowled at him. "Just forget about the plush. I'm getting some food," she muttered, forgetting the game for a moment. She turned away and headed for the food court, which was closer thanks to her running.
"I suppose that I should go prepare dinner," he answered casually, facing away from her. Her eyes widened at that implication. Abruptly, she spun around. Game still absent from her present thoughts, she dashed towards him and almost tackled him until her feet slid across the paved walkway. Nearly, she collided with him, but she managed to halt about an inch away from him. "Oh, are you going to stop me?" He giggled. "I'd like to see you try without losing."
Both of her hands balled into fists. She bit her bottom lip and tried to come up with a solution. (F/n) didn't want another person to die because of their game, but she wished to win too. "You know with that look of yours ..." He leaned his face close to her, and she took a step back. A smirk hit his lips. "You're really making me want to kiss you." The creature stepped closer, and she created a little more distance.
"I'll ... I'll ..." He quirked a brow. Delight shone in his eyes, and she could see it as clear as day even though his sunglasses. If she didn't come up with something, though, that woman would die. "Do you have a knife?"
Shock momentarily entered his optics, and he stood up fully. "No, I've just been using my nails. Why?" He narrowed his eyes more in curiosity than anything else.
"Fine, then make another deal with me." He motioned for her to go on. "Y-y-you ..." She forced back her stuttering. "You can have dessert today, right now even, in exchange for not killing that woman if you agree that it won't count as tagging me."
"Offering yourself up?" He giggled. "How noble." The creature started to rock back and forth again. "I have missed that sweet, supple flesh of yours even if it hasn't been two full days. Hmm ..." More humming in thought left him before he grinned. "Fine, but don't expect this to work all of the time." His eyes scanned over the area before landing on a family restroom, and his head pointed over to the place. "Let's go in there."
Averting her attention that way, she soon looked back to him. "Won't people get suspicious?"
Giggling some more, he remarked, "(F/n), they already are. Some people are staring at us right now." He walked around her and stood beside her. His voice grew quieter in case someone was listening and not just staring. "Besides, it's a family restroom, and we might have a child in the future." Her stomach clenched awfully at that. "I always can make up the excuse that you're pregnant and that you need some help." The creature began to walk towards the restroom, and she reluctantly followed.
Reaching the bathroom, he checked if it was locked or not. It wasn't. He held the door open for her, and she walked inside with him following behind and locking the door. The lights flicked off, and he set his sunglasses on the counter while she recalled in terror that she hadn't specified what part of her he could have for dessert and how much.
