The Colder Entering
A/N: As usual, I would recommend putting the video on loop.
Cracking continued to fill her ears as did frustrated grunts. For a moment, (f/n) sat transfixed in her seat. She saw the blood dripping down the glass and onto the dashboard and hood of the car. Glass broke more and stabbed into him all the more too. He was stuck in her window. His legs kicked, and his hands worked on pulling him out, but the glass held onto him well. If she was in a cartoon, it would be more of a comical situation. Now, it came down to a matter of time. By some luck, the break idea actually worked.
Carefully, she pulled her foot away from the break and moved it onto the gas. She drove slowly towards her destination, not wanting accidentally to free him in the process. Briefly, the creature stopped his struggle and looked back to her through the window. (F/n) attempted to ignore his gaze, but the irritated grin on his lips made that task rather hard. Quietly, she gulped.
Her nerves relaxed only by a fraction when she saw the diner in the distance. The people inside might be doomed, but it was her best shot. It might be her only chance to distance herself from the creature again. Was she being selfish? Yes, she was, especially since she wouldn't die and they possibly would; however, she had the chance to lessen the nightmare that was her future, and that was worth it to her. If she had enough time ahead of him in the diner, she could leave before the creature entered. Those inside could exit the building too and hurry off. Hopefully, only one would die at the most.
When she arrived there, the creature still was trying to remove himself from the window. He looked like some horrifying worm breaking through the soil to reach the surface. Again, he momentarily stopped to look at her. The creature raised an amused eyebrow and giggled. She didn't stare back to him long before she hurriedly grabbed her backpack and car keys in case things went wrong and she had to reenter the beaten up car.
Leaving the car, she ran through the snow as best as she could with the creature's giggles in the background. It was as though he already was settling on the fact that a second dinner or an early breakfast would be served to him. Still, there was another problem. Once the creature entered the diner and if anyone recognized her in there, attention would be raised that the creature was back and that she still was alive. Maybe, it would be ... No. She reprimanded herself; she couldn't think like that. Sure if everyone in the diner died besides them, it would make things easier, but it would lie on her conscience. The last thing she needed was a repeat of Brent and Dean. Thankfully over the last seven months, Vincent nor that mother and her family at the gas station where Krista had worked had reported seeing her, which would've caused a similar issue.
Reaching the glass and metal door, she saw a couple of people heading back towards their vehicles. She sighed in relief at the sight. (F/n) looked back to the door and opened it. A small bell chimed at the top. Inside, there was only one other customer; however, (f/n)'s attention shifted to the woman behind the counter. Swiftly, (f/n) went over to her. As calmly as she could, she placed her hands on the counter and asked, "Are you the owner here?"
Adjusting her ponytail, the woman tugged on her medium brown hair some and blew some of her slanted bangs out of her face. "No, my boyfriend, the chef, is." Her brown optics shifted over to the kitchen momentarily. She looked back to (f/n). "Why?"
Gripping the counter some to keep her hands steady, (f/n) responded, "I need your car keys." The woman raised an eyebrow as if the request was some joke. (F/n), however, maintained an anxious, serious countenance. "It's an emergency. Mine is ruined, and I need a replacement."
"Can't you call a tow truck and wait for them here?" She crossed her arms over her mint green blouse. "I can even serve you a cup of coffee. That might do you some good." The older woman analyzed the younger some and shook her head. "You look like you've seen a ghost or something. Did you run into an animal on the road?"
Almost, (f/n) laughed bitterly. She wished that the creature had been an animal. "No, but I can't wait around. I need to get out of here now." Her tone raised a little, but the older woman kept her ground. "All of you need to leave too."
"And if I need to leave with my boyfriend and you have our car, how'd that work?" Clear doubt dominated the woman's brown orbs as she seemed either disinterested in the conversation or ready to call the police.
Glancing back, (f/n) peered over to the one customer, who was staring at her now. The woman looked to be in her fifties and had grey streaks through her pale blonde locks. Her dark green optics shone with interest as well as caution. She finished her cup of coffee and adjusted the thick beige coat on her. "I don't mind taking you to your house if there's a problem, Greta."
"That's not necessary, Enid. I'm sure ..."
"Greta, look at her. Something clearly is wrong." Turning fully to face (F/n), she crossed her arms and legs, which were covered in blue denim jeans. Her black ankle boots tapped against each other. "So, what's got you in such a rush ..."
"Samantha. Call me Sam, though," (f/n) quickly lied.
"Well, Sam, what's your emergency?"
Hurriedly, (f/n) checked the entrance to the diner. The creature still wasn't there, but her heart didn't calm down, and her hands were beginning to shake. Both of the two other women followed her gaze to the door. They caught on easily. "You're being chased," Greta commented, leaning more towards the phone in the diner.
"By who? Is your lover after you?" Enid asked, sitting up straighter. The woman probably could punch someone quite well by the looks of her arms even under her jacket. Hitting the creature and knocking him out, though, was another story entirely.
"Well ... Not exactly." (F/n) wringed her hands together. "Can I please just have your car keys?" Her attention turned back to Greta. (E/c) optics begged the older woman for them. "I'm sorry, but I really don't have time for this."
"Are you being forced into a relationship, darling?" Enid questioned, now getting up to stand. The woman appeared ready to defend the whole building if it needed to be. (F/n) appreciated her actions, but Enid only would die if she faced the creature. Still, she hit the mark right on point.
"I ..." Before (f/n) could answer fully, a loud knock resonated throughout the place. The young woman's body chilled, and she, hesitantly, diverted her attention over to the front. There against the windows stood the creature. His hood was over his head and his left hand in his pocket while his right fist was against the glass. Both of his eyes were shielded by the shadows of the hood and sunglasses; however, his menacing grin was quite visible. Blood stained his jacket, but it was hard to see in the current lighting, especially since it blended into the black. A few droplets rested on his pants, but they were hard to spot too due to the dark color of the fabric.
Greta squinted before she looked horrified. She had managed to notice the blood on him, and she took a terrified step back. Her brown optics averted to (f/n). "I-Is ..."
Nodding, (F/n) held out her right hand. "Please, I need your keys now." Panic was evident in her voice, and Greta appeared frozen. Loud footsteps echoed across the tile.
Enid stepped up to the counter and placed her hands on it. "Greta, give your keys to her. I'll take Rick and you out of here. I don't like the look on that man's face." Greta stared to the oldest woman, and her left hand shakily retrieved keys from her right pocket of her black skirt. "Thank you." The blonde-haired woman signaled for (f/n) to take them. Her right hand reached out towards the metal, but a bell chimed throughout the diner. All three women turned to the creature.
More light illuminated him but also cast him in more shadows. The blood showed up more, and Enid went behind the counter towards Greta. She grabbed (f/n)'s right arm too, trying to pull her back behind the counter. (F/n), however, managed to summon some courage and tug her arm away. "Get out of here now, you two." Her fierce, scared-to-death eyes said all they needed to. Enid latched her right hand onto Greta's left before she tossed the keys to (f/n).
"Oh?" The creature giggled, giving them all pause, as (f/n) caught the keys. "You two don't want to play?" He took some steps forward, and his grin widened. "I think that you should since you're helping my pink flower." A pout formed on his lips. "You've both practically volunteered to join." (F/n) stared to the two women briefly, urging them to bolt. Enid and Greta took cautious steps back as they headed towards the back door.
Rocking back and forth on his heels now, the creature quirked a brow. "So, you're going to leave?" He sighed dramatically and slouched his shoulders forward some. "That's disappointing." His gaze locked onto them both, and he giggled loudly. "You see; I really wanted to order some breakfast."
