The Blotchier Whisper

A/N: As usual, I would recommend putting the video on loop.

Who? The question immediately rang in her head. People walked by her, and someone else stopped at the smoothie stand. She peered over her left shoulder. It was just another person, not the creature and not that woman. Her shoulders relaxed some until it sounded again. Someone's behind you. What? Heart rate picking up, she gulped and glanced over her shoulder one more time. Yes, there was someone behind her, but that person wasn't the creature.

Were the whispers simply messing with her? And, who did they belong to? The voice was indistinguishable still. She took a sip of her smoothie and commanded her legs to walk forward, to head towards the Ferris wheel. Someone tsking sounded behind her. No, she wouldn't look. Her mind was playing tricks on her again. That's all it was; she couldn't give in to it.

Her feet almost led her to the line of the ride, but she paused near the hat stand. Would it be safe to purchase one now with the whispers? She told herself not to listen to them, but a nagging feeling told her to. If she bought a hat, the creature would see it. That thought kept racing through her mind, and she decided to head to the ride.

Entering the line, she noted that it was shorter than the other one. There were only five people in front of her. One she presumed to be a mother with her two kids, and the other was a couple. She imagined that the creature was making some mental remark about them being on the Ferris wheel together if he was near.

Tired, she leaned against the railing. Her (e/c) optics analyzed the area. Eventually, they landed on the trees and bushes across from her. The pines stood tall and intimidating while the bushes hid the bases of the trunks well. A shadow of a figure met her eyes. Staring further, she noticed the black hoodie and jeans. (F/n) narrowed her eyes and spotted the nearly white strands of hair poking out from under the fabric. A stream of curse words filed through her mind, but she didn't move. He didn't either.

So, he had changed clothes, but how long had he been there? Gradually, she took another sip of her smoothie. Its sweet taste woke her up a little bit, and she reminded herself that she had to stay awake. Once she lost him, she could rest. The line moved forward. She slid along the metal railing. Now, it was just the couple and her.

Paying no mind to the couple's conversation or to the bored eyes of the ride operator, she continued to watch the patch of trees and bushes. The creature shifted some against the trunk before he pushed himself off and disappeared into the shadows under the leaves. Her stomach knotted. For right now, she was fine. Once she left the ride, however, what would he plan?

Someone else entered the line. Briefly, her attention shifted to her right. A bright green hoodie ... and jeans ... Her heart hammered in her chest. No, she just had seen the creature. Steadily, she diverted her eyes up. Bright blue eyes and orange locks greeted her as did a face completely different from the creature's. The man stared down to her and raised a brow. "Something the matter?"

Releasing a nervous chuckle, she quickly apologized, "No. Sorry, I thought that you were someone else." He gave a brief nod, and she turned her gaze back to the plants. The creature wasn't back. It was possible that he even had left the plants while she had been distracted by the man next to her. She took another sip of her drink to hide a gulp.

Once it became her turn to board the ride, the ride operator opened the metal door to a ... red basket. How fitting. An eyebrow of hers almost twitched, and she forced her hands not to shake. Seating herself on the old metal seat, the ride creaked to life again. Her basket moved up one, and she cringed at the ancient metal. It sounded like it was on its last breath. That was reassuring when she was about to be lifted even higher into the air.

Taking out her map, she balanced her drink between her legs since a cup holder was nonexistent. She held out the map before her and examined the next closest attraction: a pretty intense-looking roller coaster right next to the lake. There was a chili dog stand beside it, and she figured that the park management was having a good laugh with that one while the maintenance crew was cursing them endlessly. Maybe, she'd skip out on that ride to avoid the possibility of being thrown up on.

Basket going up higher, she glanced out over the park some. Her eyes went down to the plants where the creature was at before. She couldn't see the grass floor or past the trees for that matter; however, she did see a hooded figure walking towards the lake. Both of the person's hands were in the black hoodie's pockets, but the individual had shoes on. Then again, the creature probably wore them to blend in more. That had to be him, especially since he had a duffel bag, but why was he heading towards the lake?

Examining the map once more, she followed the main path past the rollercoaster and to the next attraction. It was one of those rides that spun around in a circle incredibly fast. No food stands were around that one. Even management probably knew that to be too much. There was a souvenir shop and a t-shirt stall close by. Her eyes shifted back to the path below. He was leaning against one of the lampposts, and his hands remained in his pockets.

At the pace of a snail, his head turned upwards. Sunglasses shield his very pale optics from the sun, and his hoodie hid most of his hair while shadowing his deathly pale skin. Even though they were quite a distance apart, she could tell that his eyes were on her basket, the one colored red. Was he going to wait there for her, or was he planning to move again?

Not being able to hold his stare for long, she focused back on the map. She wouldn't go on the spinning ride; she didn't need to be sick or dizzy. The shirt place might do her some good, though, if he wasn't right near to her. That seemed unlikely, however. The basket traveled up again. Soon, she'd be at the very top. Maybe, she could scan her surroundings past the park once there. (F/n) traced her finger along to the next attraction, though, and she paused. It was the haunted house. There were no side paths around it; she'd have to head between the trees and bushes to take another path.

Beyond it was a fun house. That wasn't much better. Between the two attractions, there was a large food court, which would help for travel purposes if they had a lot of snacks too. Even a line of vending machines would be amazing. She'd make a stop there before choosing another attraction.

Despite her dread to enter either house, it could be her ticket to loosing the creature too. Of course, there was always one set path in either building, but there were plenty of places to hide behind also. If she could find one and have him walk by, she could wait there for awhile before she sneaked out quietly and made her escape.

Another issue pertained to the fact that both houses were on the opposite side of the entrance. All of the other attractions, though, didn't allow for the same hiding ability. They were open and would give away her position to the creature too easily. There was the option to take the boat ride across the lake, but he'd be able to run along the perimeter and meet her at the other side long before she'd be able to lose him.

No doubt, either the haunted or fun house would be her best option. Her shoulders sagged some, and she put away the map. She held her drink again and observed her surroundings. Now, she was at the very top of the wheel. (F/n) resisted the urge to stare down below towards that one lamppost. Instead, she surveyed the terrain around the amusement park. Pine trees and more pine trees.

Among the many pines, there was one road. It traveled east and west. The east path, however, curved right at one point and headed south. That was what she needed. If she managed to leave the park without the creature knowing, she'd have to figure out a way to retrieve a car. She could hitchhike, but that might take too long.

Sneaking back onto the tour bus wasn't an option. It'd be heading west and back in the direction towards her town. Maybe, she could sneak onto another vehicle. Already, she had managed that twice, and the third time was the charm, right? Still, she doubted that her luck would continue. She released a sigh before she took a sip of her drink.

As she removed the straw from her mouth, the ride went down. The basket rocked back and forth some. Her eyes drifted back to the main path of the park. Heading back towards the restrooms, the woman from before greeted (f/n)'s eyes. Instantly, she sat up on her seat. If that woman recognized her, she might notice the creature ... Again, he was gone.

Part of her grew concerned, but another was grateful. If his identity was recognized, chaos might pour out into the park. Watching the woman more, (f/n) sighted that she was on a phone. Probably, she was talking to whoever she had come to the park with. Her braid swished back and forth with every movement of hers until it stopped abruptly with her. The woman presumably hung up, and she put her phone away. She lifted her right hand and waved.

Approaching her was a man with dark brown hair, almost black. His locks were swept to his right side. She couldn't see his eye color or any finer details, but he was wearing a black coat and black skinny jeans. Black tennis shoes covered his feet, which soon stopped before the woman. Their conversation was deaf to her ears, but they soon started walking towards the lake. Whatever their plans, that man knew her, but (f/n) didn't ... know him. Or, did she? (F/n) couldn't remember anyone looking like that. Then again, she'd need a closer look to tell, but it'd be foolish to go nearer to him. For now, she'd try to relocate the creature before it was time to leave the Ferris wheel.
