"Jimin?"
The last thing that Taehyung expected to see when he opened the door to his apartment was Jimin. Even more than that, he never imagined that the other would appear to had reverted back into his demon form, albeit his eyes still being brown.
He had obviously been crying, face blotchy and dried tears still visible on his face. His newly dyed black hair was frizzy and messed up; the image in front of him almost being too much for Taehyung to handle. He never imagined he'd see Jimin the way that he was before, and now that he had, his heart ached.
"Taehyung." Jimin breathed, leaning forwards and wrapping his arms around the demon. Taehyung could feel how Jimin was trembling, new tears wetting the skin of his neck. "Taehyung... I don't know what's going on."
It was only then that Taehyung only realized Jimin was calling him by name, and he had never introduced himself to Jimin's human form before. That could only mean one thing.
It was truly Jimin. The real one.
"Jimin." Taehyung's voice cracked, his own eyes becoming glossy as he pulled away and looked Jimin in the eyes. "You're back." He smiled softly, a tear sliding down his face nonetheless as he smoothed his thumb against Jimin's cheek and wiped away the fresh tears.
"Why am I back?" Jimin sniffled, his attempts to hold back his tears being proved useless as more wet Taehyung's hand. "I died. I know I did. Why am I alive?" He paused, bottom lip quivering. "Where's Jungkook?"
Taehyung wasn't sure where to start, thinking for a moment in silence as he watched Jimin's eyes travel to his neck. "And what happened to you?" The demon knew exactly was he was talking about.
The torture he had gone through in hell seemed to have scarred him permanently; a light pink burn mark in the shape of a handprint stood out starkly against his skin. Seokjin had one too, and as did Yoongi. A painful reminder of the unjust life they had to live.
"It's a long story." Taehyung sighed sadly, brushing a few pieces of hair out of Jimin's eyes. "Come inside?"
Jimin hesitated for a moment before nodding in agreement, his trembling hand taking hold of Taehyung's as the demon led him inside.
Jimin took in the entire room as he walked into the living room, memories springing to mind at almost every corner. He looked to the couch and remembered the reason for the first time he ever got punished. He glanced outside the window and remembered the first time he told Jungkook that he was a lust demon.
"Jimin, before I explain anything, I need to know what exactly is going on inside your mind." Taehyung led him over to the couch, every single one of his mannerisms exuding gentleness and care.
Jimin wiped at his eyes as he sat down on the familiar piece of furniture, facing Taehyung as he tried to think of the words to explain what exactly was going on in his catastrophe of a mind.
"There's so much going on that it hurts." He began. "I'm remembering so much at once that it's too much for my mind to handle and I feel as if I'm one memory away from my brain bursting." He took a deep breath, glittering tears collecting on his eyelashes. "I remember what I used to be, and what I used to do. I remember meeting Jungkook, and falling so in love that I was willing to give up everything for him."
Taehyung listened intently, mixed feelings colliding in his thoughts. "I remember how comforting and kind he was, and how towards the end of my life he used to hold me like I was going to break." He laughed without humour. "And I was going to break, in the end. I remember dying Taehyung. I remember feeling so much pain that I couldn't endure it any longer, even if that meant that I had to leave Jungkook."
He brought his hands up to his face, wiping away the newest of his tears and pushing his hair off of his forehead. "I didn't want to leave. I wanted to spend an eternity with him, but all I got was a few months."
Taehyung slid closer, taking hold of Jimin's hand once more to help relax him. "But then I also have memories from after I died. Memories of different places and different people. I remember someone who looked like Jungkook, but it can't possibly be him." He frowned. "My Jungkook had the kindest, most beautiful soul in the entire world. This Jungkook... He could never compare."
He looked up at Taehyung, a confused and pained expression on his face. "I know you know what's going on. Please tell me."
Taehyung sighed deeply, biting his lip as he tried to think of a way to sugarcoat the story. In the end though, he came to the conclusion that the raw truth is what would be best for Jimin.
"Jungkook... broke after you passed away." Taehyung spoke softly, watching as Jimin's bottom lip trembled. "Yoongi and Hoseok found him mere moments after you were gone. They say that they've never seen anybody cry harder than he did then. He was hardly even able to make out words through his sobs, but when he did they were 'I need you.' 'I love you.'"
Jimin dropped his gaze down to the couch cushions, shoulders shaking as he squeezed his eyes shut to keep any more tears from escaping.
"Hoseok did something that he only did because he was convinced Jungkook would take his own life otherwise." Taehyung continued. "Jungkook believed that your death was solely his fault, and so he begged Yoongi and Hoseok to help him bring you back. He pleaded for them to take him down to hell." He gulped. "And so Hoseok gave up some of his blood, and Jungkook went."
He watched as Jimin froze, a shocked expression on his face as he looked up to meet Taehyung's gaze.
"He what?" He asked incredulously, disbelief written all over his features.
"He went down to hell and brought you with him." Taehyung explained. "I don't know exactly what went down, down there. I wasn't there after all. I do know, though, that Jungkook made a deal with the devil." He listened as Jimin gasped softly at his words. "One that ended with him giving his soul to her, so that you could live."
"N-No." Jimin stuttered, shaking his head. "Why would he do that? He had an entire life to live, and he gave it up for me?"
Taehyung nodded solemnly.
"It resulted in you becoming human, and Jungkook..." He averted his gaze away from Jimin. "Becoming a demon."
Jimin brought his hands up to his face, keeping his face covered as he seemed to begin to cry again. "He became the new Lust, to be exact." Taehyung continued. "The Jungkook that you remember from before you died is the human one. The Jungkook from after, is the demon."
"I'm not worth him giving up his soul over!" Jimin cried. "I was a broken demon who had nothing that kept me going besides him. He was a beautiful human being that could have done so much good if he wasn't tangled up in this whole mess." He leaned forwards and buried his head in Taehyung's shoulder. "Where is he right now? Does he remember me?"
"Partially." Taehyung breathed, wrapping his arm around Jimin's trembling form. "He seems to flip between his human and demon soul. When he does remember you, he's convinced that you're still dead. He's still blaming himself for it too."
Taehyung rubbed calming circles on Jimin's back, hating how immensely upset the other was. "Me and some of the other sins have been trying to draw his human soul out more, but the devil found out we were doing that. She got mad and punished us, of course, because apparently delivering pain is the only way to correct somebody. I can't complain and call it inhumane, because I'm not a human."
He shook his head, feeling as Jimin traced around his burn gently with his fingers. "Demons take what is given to them without any complaints. We cause pain to others, because we're the ones who experience the most suffering."
"Has the devil ever hurt Jungkook?" Jimin asked softly, hoping wholeheartedly that the answer was no. He was too precious to fall victim to the ruthless punishments that the devil loved to dish out for trivial matters.
"She hasn't." Taehyung smiled. "He's definitely her favourite, actually. Decked him out with silver horns and never lays a finger on him if it's not a touch of affection."
Jimin frowned.
"I want to see him." He spoke. "I need to." Taehyung's shoulder was soaked with tears at this point, but he didn't mind. "I miss him so much that it hurts."
He looked up, catching Taehyung's gaze. His light blue irises were just as hypnotizing as Jimin remembered. "Please, Taehyung. Just tell me where he is."
"He lives with Hoseok now, I can take you there if you'd like?" He offered, Jimin immediately nodding in response.
It was amazing to Taehyung, how their love still existed even after all of the barriers that it had faced.
Love was such an incredible thing.
It was a shame that demons weren't supposed to know of it.
