'"Jungkook, never in my life have I ever seen an archangel look so bored."
Jungkook merely huffed, dipping his toe into the wispy clouds beneath him from where his wings kept him hovering in the air. His lips were tugged down into a displeased expression. Sheer white fabric draped off of his shoulders and waved in the slight breeze, loose white pants hanging low on his hips as he gazed down at the earth beneath him.
"It's been ages since you last assigned me to a task." He sighed, the golden accessories adorning him glinting in the mid afternoon sun. "I'm having a hard time finding things to keep me occupied. All of the other archangels have specific duties that keep them busy all year long. I do virtually nothing. I may as well be one of the regular angels and tend to your throne all day."
His wings grew tired, and so he chose to sink down into the clouds instead, the cooling wisps of them enveloping his body.
"I suppose it's your lucky day then." Jungkook finally made eye contact with God, raising his eyebrows. The pink highlights in his hair stood out so well in the golden glow that the sun casted upon him. "I have a task for you, but I must warn you beforehand that it will seem a bit daunting."
"Daunting usually goes hand in hand with it being important, so I'd like to know more." He sat up, the clouds hugging his body and keeping him from falling. It was an ability that only angels were granted with, considering that it was their domain.
A fallen angel occurs when they are stripped of that ability, and slip straight through the clouds.
"I'm going to temporarily strip you of your wings." Jungkook's eyes widened drastically at the words, hands flying back to grasp at the soft feathers extending from his back. "I am also going to take your memories, and cast you down to earth."
Jungkook's brows furrowed, heart beating erratically as he took in the words that were being spoken to him.
He was born a purebred angel, worked his way up to archangel status by constant hard work and dedication. And now it seemed as if he was being punished? For what?
"Let me explain, because I can already see you panicking." God sighed, watching as sparkling tears began to build up in Jungkook's eyes. "Lucifer has been plotting something horrible, something that I will not let be unleashed upon the race I worked so hard on creating." Jungkook's eyebrows shot up. "That menace plans to create demons that are the embodiments of the worst of sins, and then set them free amongst the human race."
"That can't be." Jungkook gasped, finding it hard to grasp the words that were being spoken. "That could absolutely ruin humans."
God nodded, Jungkook watching each movement intently.
"Which is why I need you." God elaborated. "You're going to disguise yourself as a human, and take them down." Jungkook gulped. "I'm going to grant you with the power of each of the virtues, so that you may counteract the effects of each of the sins. I'll take your wings, and your memories, and cut off all contact between us so that you are able to work without any limitations."
Jungkook played with the wispy clouds he sat in, before nodding slowly. "Anything, and everything that you do down there will be excused. Any sin that you indulge in will not be accounted for up here, because I know that it is simply for work purposes. Because you will be human, Lucifer is able to do absolutely anything to you, but I do believe that you'll have strength."
Jungkook stood up, fluffy hair blowing in the wind as he made direct eye contact with God. "If at anytime it becomes too much, dousing yourself in holy water will bring you back to your true form."
The task was terrifying. Heaven was all he knew. There was one time in his younger years when he was assigned to be a guardian angel before his days as an archangel, but that was the only contact he had ever had with earth.
"I accept your task." Jungkook couldn't pass it up. God choosing him for such a task proves that he is still respected up in heaven, though he was usually not given any attention. "When do I start?"
"Immediately." God answered, placing a hand atop Jungkook's head. Words left his lips that Jungkook couldn't decipher, a strange sensation of warmth flooding throughout his entire body.
His pink and brown locks were swapped for ones that were purely brunette, his glinting silver eyes replaced with dark brown ones. The signature golden sparkle to an angel's skin was replaced with a human blush.
"Turn around." And so Jungkook did, sinking his teeth into his bottom lip as he felt hands encircle the base of his wings. "This will hurt, but I promise that you won't remember a thing."
Jungkook merely nodded, trying not to think about it too much. He had worked so hard for those wings. The signature golden tipped feather of an archangel making him feel so proud each time he caught a glimpse of them.
First, he felt a dull pressure. Next, he heard a snap and a searing pain spread throughout his back.
Then, everything went black.'
-
"Excuse me?" The devil was absolutely livid upon hearing each word that Jungkook spoke, not wanting to believe the story he had just spouted out to her and Jimin.
It had to be true though, because he had all of the traits to match his tale. The wings of an archangel, the devil knew their appearance well, considering that she had sported a pair awhile ago. The way the Jungkook described getting his wings stripped was accurate as well, because she remembered that too.
Jungkook brought his hand up to his head, all of the new memories crashing back into his mind and causing a pain that was almost comparable to how it felt when he was remembering Jimin. His mind felt like it was about to burst, almost upset at God for withholding the memories from him for so long.
He knew that he would have been able to do his job just as fine with his memories in tact. But here he sat, conflicted, confused, and cowering before the devil.
He knew that he shouldn't be afraid, because he was an angel. He could easily fight back against the devil, but his past human and demon memories still had him wary of her.
"You've ruined everything!" The devil growled, heels clicking against the tile floor as she walked towards Jungkook. The brunette's wings folded back slightly, obviously in a slight state of fear. "You fucking nuisance. Are you really telling me right now, that God sent you down to destroy all of my creations?"
"I-I didn't know!" Jungkook stuttered, backing up a bit and looking to Jimin with a worried gaze. He was still looking at Jungkook's wings in shock, as if he couldn't believe his eyes. Jungkook almost didn't believe it was real either. "I'm just finding this out right now too!"
"Because you're just a puppet, Jungkook." The devil spat. "You're nothing. Every single thing that you've done up until now? Your 'love' for Jimin? Fake. All of it. You angels call yourselves 'good', call yourselves 'holy' but even I didn't forge a fake love and shatter a heart just for the sake of bringing down a few demons."
Jungkook's head whipped around at the sound of Jimin's gasp, heart tugging at the sight of a hurt expression on his face. He stood up from where he was still sitting by the riverbank, unshed tears in his eyes and holy water still rolling down his face in droplets.
"Tell me that it's not true." Jimin choked out, eyes darting up to the unmistakable ring of light that shone above Jungkook's head. "Jeon Jungkook, you better tell me right now that you were completely genuine about at least something that happened between us."
Jungkook gulped, taking in a shaky breath as he watched Jimin's bottom lip wobble. "C'mon. Tell me that you truly loved me from the good of your own heart, and not just because God forced you to."
Jungkook watched glittering tears escape from Jimin's eyes, mixing with the holy water that still wet his cheeks.
And he wondered, if this plan really was for the best.
Jimin reached forwards, resting both of hands on Jungkook's shoulders.
Because right then, it sure felt like it wasn't.
