서른아홉

He felt heavy.

Jungkook's whole body felt as if it were made out of steel, slowly sinking into the ground he was lying on. He knew that there were people around him - someone right beside him actually - but at the moment he couldn't find himself caring.

He just wanted to keep lying down for awhile.

His skin felt hot and clammy everywhere except for his shoulders. His shoulders were screaming, a searing pain tearing its way across his shoulder blades. That was another reason he didn't want to get up or open his eyes - he really just didn't want to move, scared that he was extremely injured after what had just happened to him.

Being alive, actually surprised him. After Jimin left him, it seemed like everything started down a downwards spiral that ended with him dead.

-

"Archangel Jungkook, you have two options here."

Jungkook was kneeled in front of God, shimmering tears still streaming down his face as he tried to choke back the sobs that were still building up in his aching chest.

He looked down at his hands through blurry eyes, clenching them into fists and then relaxing them again. They didn't feel like his hands.

His hands wouldn't have let Jimin slip through them.

"I'm genuinely surprised you came back willingly." God continued, His words not being spoken, but simply being heard within Jungkook's mind. "Considering how rogue you went, I was planning on bringing you back forcefully before you could give us a bad name."

Jungkook sniffled. Why did he come back? It was for Jimin and him to be happy. He was so blind, and so naive as to how he would actually be welcomed back, that he believed it would have been okay.

Jimin thought that God wouldn't have even let him in, imagine if Jimin learned that Jungkook might not be let in either.

"What are my options?" Jungkook's voice quivered. His throat was raw from crying and so his words were muffled by a thick raspiness. He cleared his throat.

Jungkook looked up, but there was no one to even look at - just a blinding light that forced his gaze back down immediately. "I'm surprised I'm even getting a choice in my fate here."

The clouds beneath him lost footing for a second, causing his heart to drop as the nearly felt himself drop through. God had obviously not been pleased with his retort.

"You're lucky to be getting a choice right now." God's voice boomed. "I'm not even giving you the option to explain yourself, just the choice to be punished less severely. There is no way you are getting out of this unscathed." Air felt thick around him, ironic given that they were sitting atop clouds as they spoke.

Jungkook opened his mouth to talk, but quickly closed it. It was probably best for him to stay quiet until told otherwise. His whole body felt like it was tingling, but not in a pleasant way. In a way that told him that this body did not feel like his own. This body wouldn't have let him fail this badly, not when it had fought and fought for so long.

"Now. Either you lose your archangel status and I reassign your elsewhere, with no contact to earth whatsoever." Jungkook gulped, curling his hands into fists. "I think this is pretty fitting, considering that the issue I had with you is how tainted you became when you were sent down there." More tears slipped down his face, droplets of tears shining against his lashes like dew.

He had messed up so bad. He wished that he had Jimin's mind sometimes, to realize that this wouldn't have worked out so much sooner. "Or," God continued, "You just leave."

Jungkook's eyes widened, blurry vision clearing up as he wiped away his tears.

"Leave?" Jungkook questioned very cautiously. "What do you mean leave? Where would I go?"

Sometimes in life, you'll say something that you will never be able to anticipate the consequences to. Jungkook had a few of these moments before, but if he were to look back at his life as a movie - this would be the worst.

"If you are so curious, be my guest."

After those words, Jungkook could barely remember anything except for pain.

He did remember falling through heaven's floor - reaching his hand up to grasp the fading light that he was falling away from, blood covered feathers swirling around him in the air as he descended further and further away from his home.

'My home?' Jungkook remembered thinking, cold air leaving stinging trails against his bare skin. He wasn't an angel anymore, the proof was feathers still leaving a trail behind him. They sparkled in the moonlight, reminding Jungkook just how much he had worked for his archangel wings - and just how much he was losing.

He closed his eyes, spreading his arms out and welcoming the end of his descent.

He didn't have a home anymore. He could never go back, and so there was nothing to mourn.

Jimin was gone. His status was gone. His home and purpose for life was gone.

He smiled softly, realizing that if he died now he wouldn't leave anything behind anyway, thinking nothing of it as the air around him slowly began to warm up.

-

"If Jungkook is going to stay here, I'd like to hear it from him. Then maybe I'll believe it."

Jungkook couldn't help it. The moment he came back to reality and heard Jimin's voice, his eyes were snapping open. Jimin. His Jimin? He knew that voice anywhere but how could it be that he was here?

Where was 'here' exactly though?

His eyes focused, a blurred mix of colours slowly forming into people and things that he recognized.

The black stone floor. The quiet ambiance of flames crackling off in the distance. The steep drop off into the rivers that ran through hell's landscape.

He slowly turned his head, shock and awe blanketing his mind and leaving him in silence.

The pain in his shoulders didn't even matter anymore. Nothing mattered except for the two of them when he turned his head and locked gazes with someone who he thought would never see again.

His Jimin. He looked exactly the same as he did when they first met, and maybe that was what caused him to start crying again - even though he hardly had any tears left to cry.

The crimson of Jimin's eyes now expressed love, a film of tears coating them and waiting to fall down his cheeks. What was there to even say? What else was there even to do but reach out and cup Jimin's soft face, and marvel at the simple fact that he was here and alive.

"You forgot to tell me where you were going." Jungkook sniffled, a smile of disbelief spreading across his face. "You're lucky I found you."

Jimin laughed softly, his tears finally deciding that they had had enough and spilling out of his eyes.

"Is it luck?" He asked. "When have we not found each other in the past?"

a/n:
hihi!! here's the dealio - either there would have been a monster of an update that took a long time to write and read orrrr I split it up into this chapter and the next chapter
I decided to go with the latter so you guys would have more stuff to read faster <33
Next chapter is the finale though!! This is not a drill!! Infatuation is finally being completed, and with that marks the end of the Lust-Infatuation storyline - one of my favourite plot I have ever written
maybe that's why I keep dragging the ending out - I don't wanna say goodbye hehe
however, I will say I'm extremely happy with the way it's ending - and I hope you all love it too <33

- Charlie :)
