[one] mulan, the resident assistant
"Alright," Hoseok placed a baseball cap on my head, then smiled so wide his dimples were showing. "The final touch. No one will know you're a girl!"
"I... look ridiculous." I checked myself out in the mirror. My body was drowning in layers of oversized shirts. Hoseok's shirts. "These are twice or three times your size. Why do you even own these?"
"I like baggy clothes, alright?" He defended, his grin vanishing. "They make me look more manly." The serious look on his face was short-lived. He beamed at me again and hooked an arm around my neck.
"Wh-what are you doing?!" Prying his arm off of my neck was surprisingly difficult. "How is someone so scrawny so strong?!" I yelled at him teasingly.
"I'm just happy you're here! We have a shit ton of catching up to do! Heeheehee!" He shook me hard enough to make me dizzy for a moment.
"Hey," I suddenly stiffened, talking to him with all the seriousness I could muster. "I'm here to work, not have fun."
He let go of me in an instant. "You know I can lend you some money, right?" Hoseok's eyes were sincere and his smile dimmed.
"While I appreciate you offering, I'm going to work to earn my money."
"...you're going as far as cross-dressing to do it."
"Well... it beats the alternative, Hoseok."
"Huh?" He raised an eyebrow at me.
I fought the bitterness that welled up inside me, the memories of my past and my family flooding in. Hoseok, who recognized the solemn look on my face, immediately spoke to cheer me up.
"Jules, you are not your family. You are your own woman. I have never seen somebody work so hard to overcome the odds she was born into."
Despite his goofy affect, Hoseok was actually observant and quite intuitive. He was undoubtedly wise beyond his 24 years. His empathy was probably the reason we'd always gotten along so well.
"I'll introduce you to our dorm-mates, then we'll go out and get jjajangmyeon! Jjajangmyeon! Jjajangmyeon!" He began chanting the word in my ears.
Hoseok chanted the name of the noodle dish all the way down the corridor, until we nearly reached the living room.
A door ahead of us opened, and a boy came out. A scowl on his face, and his eyes looking daggers at Hoseok, he yelled, "Shut the hell up! It's 6 in the morning for crying out loud!"
Another boy popped out of the room on the opposite side of the hall. "Yeah, seriously... I was up all night last night." This one was a little less pissed as he tried to rub the sleep out of his eyes.
"Hey V! Jungkook! Meet our new RA!" Hoseok completely ignored their complaints and greeted them in the order they emerged. Then, he wrapped an arm around my shoulder. "This is Julius! We've been friends for a long time!"
A stiff smile on my face, I fought hard to not cringe at the mention of my alternate name.
Neither boy gave a shit. They turned around and walked back into their respective rooms before slamming their doors shut.
"You know what this means, Jules?" Hoseok grabbed me by the shoulders and looked into my eyes. He spoke in a low voice, "Since neither of them hit on you, your disguise is a success. You can bow down to the master."
I couldn't help but laugh.
"Also," he clamped a hand over my mouth. "We need to work on your cute girl antics. If you giggle like that again, it'll be a dead give-away."
"Thanks," I muffled sarcastically into his palm and furrowed my brow at him.
He gave me a cheeky smile and continued to drag me down to the dining room. "Another thing I need to tell you is my roommate Jimin comes back in a couple days. Since Jungkook has no roommate, you'll be rooming with him. Got it?"
"Which one is he again?"
He deadpanned, "Have you been living under a rock?"
"Uh... I've just had other interests, okay? Idol boys aren't top priority!"
"What could possibly be more important than finding your true love?"
"Wait... are you trying to set me up with him?"
"No! I'm just- ...how do you not know every Bangtan Boy?! What have you been doing with your life?"
"I've been spending my free time playing video games... instead of putting your music videos on repeat and keeping my eyes plastered to my phone screen."
"You've just kept your eyes plastered on your computer screen instead." He countered. Sighing, Hoseok rubbed his chin pensively, then stamped a hand on my shoulder. "I know this... at least, you and Jungkook will make perfect roommates."
Unless I fell in love with him.
