Prologue
Author's Note: For all those who are reading this, - and not skipping right to the story - I would like you all to know that this book has switching point of views, helping the reader understand what each character is feeling. The book will start off with Alexandria's point of view, but will change later on. That is all.
The early morning sun slowly draped out from my window, casting its light onto my sleeping body. My eyes slowly fluttered open, but I covered them with my right arm.
" Hmm, morning...." I mumbled, letting out a tired yawn as I stretched my arms,"...Better get up..."
But as I tried to move my body, a pair of strong pale arms held me in place. I turned my head to the left side of me to see Jackson, sleeping soundly with his arms wrapped around my waist," Jackson...wake up." I stated with a smile, gently shaking his sleeping body.
" Hmm...it's too early..." he mumbled, pulling me closer to his body,"...just go back to sleep..."
" It's only 8:00 in the morning." I stated, rolling my body over to where I was facing him.
" Exactly." Jackson replied, smiling at me even though his eyes were closed," Lets just cuddle for a bit..."
He dug his head into the crook of my neck, planting a small kiss there," You always smell so nice..." he said, taking in my scent.
I giggled, feeling my face heat up a bit from the kiss," Thanks..." I replied, beginning to play with the strands of his black hair while we just laid in bed, enjoying each other's warm and comforting company.
After about five minutes of us just cuddling, I let out a tired sigh," You know we have to get up soon."
" I do." He stated, wrapping his arms around me more," That's why I won't let you leave...."
I could feel him smile against my skin as I giggled," But we have things to do..!" I protested in a playful manner as I tried to move my body away from him, but failed.
" Like what?" He asked, moving his head to where I could see him. He finally had his eyes open. His brown orbs showed mischief as he looked at me while wearing a mischievous grin.
" Well you know, groceries, food, stuff like that." I responded, looking up at the ceiling as I explained the tasks we needed to preform today.
" But it's Sunday...!" Jackson complained, throwing his head back into the pillows," Can't we just stay here and cuddle some more?"
I giggled," I really wish we could, but since it is Sunday, I need to get ready for the week." I stated with a smile as I finally pulled away from his grip.
He sighed in defeat," Fine..."
" Hey, don't be so glum about it." I commented as I stepped out of bed, my bare feet touching the wood floors of our room," I also wanted to go out for breakfast at the place you like so much, but if you're gonna complain..."
" Alright! Alright. I'll stop." He complied, sitting up on our bed.
A funny fact about Jackson was that he had a weakness for food, cuddles, and kisses. Isn't he just adorable? I think it is.
" Great." I replied, turning my back to him as I began to walk over to my dresser, my feet clapping against the wood.
Once I reached my dresser, I opened my top drawer, where I pulled out a long, fashionable brown sweater, a pair jeans, and undergarments.
I looked over my shoulder, making sure Jackson wasn't looking, which he wasn't. He was checking some messages on his phone, a plain expression on his face as he did. I turned back around, undressing myself out of my pjs, which was one of Jackson's shirts - which fit me like a dress - and a pair of fluffy shorts.
" You know Alex, my parents are inviting us to their Thanksgiving party." Jackson commented as I put of my undergarments.
" Really? That's great!" I replied excitedly, buttoning up my jeans," When is it?"
" Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, duh." He replied, mocking my question.
I giggled," Yeah, that was a bit of a stupid question..." I admitted, reaching for my sweater to put on.
But as I reached for it, I felt a pair of arms snake around my bare waist," J-Jackson..!"
I felt his lips press against my neck in a loving, tender way," You know I love you, right?"
" O-Of course I do! And I love you too." I said, turning my body to where I was facing him, even though I had to look up to meet his gaze," Why would you even ask?"
He shrugged," I don't know. I just want to make sure..." he said, bending down to my ear,"...that you're mine."
The way he said it made shivers go down my spine, his tone was cold and sinister, but I tried to ignore it by smiling," I am, and forever will be yours..." I replied, smiling at him with a loving smile.
" Good..." he said, brushing his lips against mine as he pulled my body closer to his. I was a bit surprised at first, but I slowly melted into the kiss, wrapping my arms around his neck to help make the kiss more passionate.
Even after dating for almost a year, my heart would always race when he kissed me, and I could definitely tell I was blushing by how hot my face felt.
Jackson had one hand wrapped around my waist while the other ran threw my red hair, his lips were soft and warm, and every time we kissed I would feel a warm sensation in my chest. But I knew if we didn't stop now, things would get out of hand.
" We should stop..." I stated, pulling away from him after what seemed like an eternity of kissing,"...we still need to get ready."
I could tell he wanted to continue, but he instead let out a sad sigh," Fine."
I gave him one last smile before grabbing my brown sweater and heading to the bathroom, where I closed the door and continued to get dress. I pulled my fashionable sweater over my head, fixing it a bit on my body before pulling my hair out of the sweater.
I began to adjust the sleeves a bit, helping it look better. But as I fixed my right sleeve, I noticed my tattoo - or what I like to call, soulmate mark - of a crow on my wrist.
I felt a smile crawl up on my lips. I loved Jackson so much, and I'm so happy I met him. I brought my wrist to my mouth and kissed the tattoo before finishing getting ready.
I grabbed a brush which was laying on my bathroom counter and began to brush my knotted red locks.
Once I finished brushing, my red hair had a wavy affect to it, which I happened to like. A grabbed a dark drown beanie that I had worn the day before and placed it on my head, since I was too lazy to do anything to my hair.
I put some eyeshadow on, along with a pink-colored lip gloss which made my lips shinny.
" I think I'm ready now..." I said to myself as I looked into my mirror,"...I just need to grab my purse and put my shoes on."
I turned away from the mirror and opened the bathroom door, revealing my room. Jackson laid on our bed, his left arm behind his head as he looked through his phone. I had also noticed he was now dressed in a grey v-neck shirt, a black leather jacket, jeans, and black converse.
" Are you all ready?" Jackson asked as he looked away from his phone and at me," You're kinda just standing there starring."
I felt my cheeks heat up in embarrassment," I-I was..?! Sorry..." I apologized, moving away from my bathroom doorway and towards my closet to grab my boots.
" It's fine. I think it's cute that you were checking me out..." He stated in a playful manner.
" I was not!" I shouted as I searched my closet for my long brown boots.
" You totally were. Don't deny it." Jackson commented, obviously smirking at me as I finally found my boots.
I shut my closet door with my boots in hand," Why do you always have to tease me?" I asked, giving him a pouty face.
" Cause you're so cute when you're mad." He replied, still smirking at me.
I playfully rolled my eyes as I shoved on my boots on, once I finished, I grabbed my phone from my nightstand before grabbing my purse," Are you ready to go?" I asked, as I stood at our bed room door.
" I've been ready slow poke." He said, getting up from our bed and to me.
" Great! Let's get going." I said, opening the door which revealed the rest of our apartment.
----------
The sound of car horns clogged my ears as Jackson and I walked out of our apartment building, the crisp autumn air blowing by me.
I looked towards the busy street, where I saw many orange and red leaves swirl together as cars drove over them. On the sidewalk, I saw people walking together, they were dressed in warm clothes with scarfs touching their noses.
I loved Fall. The colors the trees would turn and the smells that filled the air would always make me feel at home for some reason. And I guess I should be grateful for this, since Boston is known for having the best Fall seasons.
" You seem to be enjoying the view of the street." Jackson said, wrapping his right arm around my upper body.
I nodded," Yeah. You know how I love Fall." I replied, looking up at him with a smile," Now. How about we go eat breakfast at that cafe you like? Loyal Nine wasn't it?"
A smile spread across Jackson's face," You know me so well..." He said as he kissed my cheek," Yeah, let's go there."
He removed his arm from around me and grabbed a hold of my hand instead; his hand was way bigger compared to mine, so it practically covered my hand.
So we began our small journey to the small cafe hand-and-hand, a smile on my face as I enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Jackson was silent as usual, but his silence was good. It meant he was enjoying himself.
But as we walked pass a group of teenager boys, - who happened to be starring at me - I felt Jackson's grip on me tighten. A little flaw about Jackson was that he got jealous easily, and was pretty possessive when he was jealous.
" You're mine. You're mine. You're mine..." I could barely hear Jackson mumble to himself repeatedly, holding my hand tightly.
" Hey. Are you ok?" I asked, looking up at him once we passed the boys.
He looked down at me, his face was expressionless, but his eyes showed anger," Yeah. I'm fine. Just keep walking." He replied coldly as he looked away from me.
Another flaw Jackson has is that he's cold when he mad, as you can tell by now.
I gave him a sad look before turning my attention towards the street.
----------
The rest of the walk to the cafe was silent, and not in the comfortable silence like before, it had an odd feeling to it.
But once the sign ' Loyal Nine ' came into view, the mood lightened," Come on! Let's head in already." I said cheerfully, pulling Jackson towards the giant sliding garage door of the cafe.
Even though this cafe was located near a railroad, this cafe was one of the best in Boston. I opened the teal-colored sliding door, revealing the vintage inside of the cafe. The smell of coffee beans and baked pastries filled my nose as I looked around the crowed cafe. The cafe walls were painted a dark teal color while white flower patterns covered the walls.
" Let's order something before we sit down." I stated, walking over to the line where tons of people waited to take their order.
----------
About five minutes later, we were almost at the front of the line. A man, around my age, stood in front of us. He had short blond hair, his skin was pale from what I could tell, and he wore a casual outfit, which was a grey hoodie, jeans, and dark blue tennis shoes.
He seemed to have been having a problem with his credit card, since he's been at the counter for about two minutes," Sir, if you can't pay for your order, you're going to have to leave the front so I can take other people's orders." A older man - around 50 or so - stated from behind the counter, crossing his arms on his chest.
" I-I'm sorry. My card won't work and-"
The man continued to ramble nervously as he tried to get his card to work," He should get out of line if he doesn't have the money to pay for anything..." I heard Jackson mumbled coldly.
Even though I didn't know this man in front of me, I felt the urge to help him.
I let go of Jackson's hand, grabbing a hold of my purse and dug through it in search of a twenty-dollar bill.
Once I did, I pulled the dollar out before tapping the man's shoulder. The blond man jumped at my touch before turning around," H-Huh? What is it?" he asked, the sense of panic in his voice.
I lend the dollar out to him with my right hand," I saw you were having trouble with your credit card, so here." I replied, smiling kindly at him.
A light blush spread across his face, his blue eyes showing surprise at my sudden action," R-Really? But I don't even know you." The man commented.
" Yeah, she doesn't..." Jackson mumbled, jealousy building up in his voice.
" You don't have to know someone to be kind." I stated, shaking the dollar at him," So take it."
" T-Thank you so much...."
" Alexandria."
" Beautiful name." The blond man said, giving me a grin," Thank you very much Alexandria, you are too kind."
I giggled," Why thank you."
As he took the dollar from my hand, my sweater sleeve fell down a bit, revealing my soulmate mark. Immediately when the man saw it, his face dropped.
The man quickly turned around to pay for his order before walking away from the counter in a fast pace.
" You know you're too kind, right?" Jackson commented, his hands stuffed in his pockets as he moved towards the counter.
" Yeah I know, but it was the right thing to do." I commented, smiling at him.
As we order our things, I kept thinking about what happened. Why did the man change suddenly when he saw my mark? I don't know, but I tried not to think about it too much.
----------
Once Jackson and I paid for our order, we walked over to one of the vintage-style tables and sat down. On the way to our table, we passed the man I had helped put in line, and I could have sworn he was starring at me with a weird look in his eyes.
" Earth to Alex? Are you paying attention?" I heard Jackson ask, snapping me back to reality.
" Hmm? What did I miss?" I asked, blinking a few times to make sure I was awake.
" Well, the food is here." He answered, gesturing towards the food - I hadn't noticed - was place on our table.
" Oh great!" I cheered, smiling as I grabbed the pumpkin-spice muffin I ordered. I took a bite off the top of the muffin, steam coming out of it as the smell of pumpkin spic filled my nose," This is dealicious!"
I happily took another bite of my muffin, crumbs covered my face. But as I ate, I felt a pair of eyes on me, a weird chill went through my body. I wanted to turn around and see who it was, but I was too nervous to look.
Jackson, on the other hand, seemed to have been enjoying his breakfast sandwich he had order, a smile on his face as he took another bite.
I gulped nervously before speaking," S-So how is you food?" I asked, trying not to sound frightened.
" Amazing as always. Yours?" He asked, tilting his head a bit as he chewed.
" It's great...!" I said, quickly taking a bite of my muffin again.
" Is something wrong?" Jackson asked, probably noticing how nervous I was acting," You seem...nervous."
" Oh! It's nothing. It's just...it's just..." I was so nervous that the person would hear me, so I began to gesture behind me with my right hand,"...I think someone's starring at me..."
Jackson switched his gaze from me to however was starring at me. His facial expression harden as he gritted his teeth," Who is it..?" I asked, in an almost whisper.
Jackson didn't answer, he just continued to glare at whoever was starring. I heard a chair being pushed back and the sound of the sliding door of the cafe open and close," I'm going to go get a smoke, I'll be right back." Jackson stated, standing up from his chair," Stay here and finish your food.
A thing I didn't mention before...
...Jackson was a smoker.
I've been trying to get him to quit for the longest time, but he keeps refusing my help. It's really frustrating to deal with, but I try to not let it get to me," Ok. Just come back soon." I said, turning my body to where I was able to watch him leave the cafe. I scanned the cafe for a moment - noticing the man I had helped in line was gone - before sitting back down.
So Jackson had his flaws, but no one's perfect. Sure he was secretive, and was pretty possessive at times, but I love him.
But a thing I had noticed when Jackson was that he never smelled like smoke, his breath was always fresh, and I could never find his cigarettes. Weird right? I always try to think of the most logical answer to these little plot holes, and I've only came up with:
He eats mints to keep his breath fresh, he tries to make sure he doesn't get smoke on himself, and he keeps his cigarettes on him, and then places them somewhere else when were at home.
That's all I could come up with in the time I've been with him, they're not the best answers, but they're the most logical ones. I mean, why would he lie about smoking? What does he do if he doesn't smoke?
