Chapter 12

"Did you have fun?" Delsin asked, wanting to light the mood. Riley nodded, stepping further into the room. Delsin had invited her to the apartment he and his brother were renting. She had explained she was afraid how her roommate would react upon finding out that she was a conduit. Delsin had been more than happy to lend her their couch.

"Destroying drugs, freeing sex slaves, I kind of have to right? With this new life." She shrugged, a smile on her face. Delsin saw right through her smile and pulled her into his arms.

"I'm so sorry" He whispered into her hair, feeling her tremble. Riley shook her head.

"It's not your fault. We don't even know what happened" She muttered into his chest. Delsin frowned and sighed.

"But, were gonna find out." Riley pulled away, just a tad, enough to look into his eyes.

"Thank you, for being here"

"Of course, what kind of friend would I be if I would resist these puppy eyes" With a smile he removed the tear drops underneath her eyes.

"Can you stay with me tonight?" Riley asked, her voice a mere whisper. Delsin nodded.

"Of course. But the couch will not fit" He smirked and took her hand in his. He pulled her, like a big teddy bear towards one of the doors. He opened it and helped her inside. The room was compleately dark but Riley could make out a big bed, a pile of clothing in a corner and a pile of spray paint cans in another.

"It's a mess, I know" Riley did not complain. She took her hand out of Delsin's hand staggered towards the bed. She flopped down into it and closed her eyes. Delsin snickered from behind her, that she could hear. She heart rustling and peeked open an eye. A blush rose to her cheeks as she noticed Delsin remove his beanie, jacked, vest and flannel . Now in his shirt, he took off his shoes and turned to her. Riley closed her eyes and reached down, pulling of her own shoes. She tossed them off the bed and wiggled under the covers. The bed dipped as Delsin laid down next to her. She could feel his arm body close to her. She could smell his musky cologne. Riley wrinkled her nose and wiggled off her hoodie, leaving her in her thin t-shirt.

Warm arms encircled her and pulled her closer. Delsin remained still, wanting to see how she'll react. Riley blushed but snuggled closer, her face buried into his shirt. The arms tightened around her and Riley drifted off.

"I've got word of a ramped-up DUP presence over in the lantern district. They must think there's a conduit hiding over there."

"Sounds like the place to be. But right now, I'm busy"

"Busy with what?"

The door behind the brothers opened and a sleepy looking Riley stepped out, her shirt wrinkled from sleep.

"Lantern District? There's a bridge leading there" Reggie turned to a smiling Delsin, his eyes wide.

"You invited a random girl here?! I thought I told you to keep this low-key." Delsin did not look disturbed by his brothers outburst, instead he motioned towards Riley.

"Reggie meet Riley. Riley, Reggie. I made breakfast" Reggie blinked, staring at the girl. 1. This was Riley, the girl he had thought to be imaginary. 2. His brother made breakfast. "Just kidding, I got it from The Dinner. They make waffles to die for" Riley grinned and sat down in front of Delsin.

"Nice to meet you, I guess" Reggie mumbled, snapping out of his shock. "It might be worth mentioning that the bridge is taken by the DUP."

Riley shrugged, taking a waffle. "But you can still cross it right" her eyes on Delsin. He shrugged.

"Seems legit. How about you come with me? You could give me air support, and you know, see me kick some DUP butt." Riley shook her head, swallowing her bite of delicious waffle.

"I don't think so. I've just got these powers, I don't want to risk hitting you"

"Wait, air support, hitting you? You're a conduit"

"Yeah, keep up Reggie" Delsin huffed. Riley rolled her eyes at him and nodded at Reggie.

"I am. They showed up yesterday."

"And you haven't copied her powers?" Delsin blinked. Why had he not thought about that. But he had touched her, more than once yesterday. And nothing had happened.

"It won't work. I don't know why" Riley just shrugged along with Delsin.

"Damn. It seems like you found yourself the perfect girlfriend than." Reggie shook his head, walking to the door. Delsin let out a grunt as Riley coughed, a piece of waffle caught in her throat. "We'll I'm off. Call me when you reach the bridge" He took a hold of his coat and slipped it on. "It was... nice meeting you" he nodded his head at Riley.

"Likewise"

"Say hi to Paige for me" Delsin shot back. Reggie pointed a warning finger at him and left. Riley blinked, turning to Delsin.

"Paige, as in Paige Newton?" Delsin frowned and nodded.

"Yeah, how do you know?"

"She's my roommate"
