I am rubbing off on her.
Ayana's P. O. V
"How did you guys, as in both of you and Vihaan become friends?"
Amber asked us and I sigh, falling back on the bed, a soft smile on my face as I replay the memories. I look up at Krisanne to see she's staring into space, a sweet smile on her face too.
"Well, we became friends because we landed up in the same school," I say and Amber pouts.
"I didn't just use my today's question for a three line answer, I want the details!" she half yells and I raise my eyebrows.
I am rubbing off on her.
Krisanne smiles slightly and we share a glance before I launch into telling her our history.
"Well, Krisanne and I became friends with Vihaan first, at the same time, but separately," I start but Amber's face of is like I just explained to her the most complex law of nature. I repeat my, this timd in more detail.
"Vihaan and I crossed paths in school and Krisanne met Vihaan in their neighbourhood. We both became friends with him around the same time, when we were in the seventh grade. Eventually, Krisanne landed up in our school and that's where we met, obviously because of Vihaan."
"Okay, but what led to your friendships?" Amber asks and I start to open the packet of chips.
It is a long story and I'm going to need the energy.
"Okay, so I'll begin with the story of Vihaan and yours truly."
Amber scoots closer and puts her hands in the chips packet, all ears for the story.
"So, I was a very arrogant kid. Wait, who am I kidding, I'm still an arrogant and angry kid. So obviously, I was not everyone's favorite kid on the block which also logically means that I shouldn't have had a lot of friends. However, that wasn't the case. I had a lot of friends. Or at least that's what everyone thought. People tried really hard to get my attention, to be acquainted with me. For them, I lived the perfect life of a rich kid with good grades and decent appearance. Friendship with me meant instant fame and attention. So all they had to do was pretend to like my obnoxious ass."
"Now the twist in the story came when the truth showed itself. Just as soon as people would realize that all my money was not at my disposal and my purse was not diamond studded, they started to finally see all my personality defects."
"Thanks to my loving guardians, please note the sarcasm, I hated and didn't care about almost anything. I was immune to these things and had almost lost hope when Vihaan happened."
"So, my love for food was always there, but it grew two fold when it became the reason why I and Vihaan became friends. The neglected child that I was, I barely got food for school. However, my grumbling stomach could never defeat my ego. At least not until seventh grade when Vihaan and I ended up in the same class of students."
I lunge into the packet to find it empty. Amber was engrossed in my story, her chip in her hand near her mouth for almost five minutes now. Krisanne, who knows this and she's listening to it for the nth time, seems to be engrossed in thought.
"Listen, open another packet of chips. I need it," I tell Krisanne and she breaks out of her reverie. She nods before opening her bag and removing the chips packet out. She opens the packet and places it on the bed.
"So what did Vihaan exactly do?" an impatient Amber asks and I smirk.
Her interest is way to much to be normal.
"Well I used to eat canteen food most of the time, refusing to give into the tempting food in everyone else's boxes. I mean, I am Ayana Singhania, I could not ask people who I secretly despised to share their food with me. Like I said, I was too proud to do that."
"You still are." Krisanne adds.
"In the beginning, when Vihaan was new to my class, I used to sit at a distance and watch him eat peacefully. He sat all alone, in his half grey uniform pants and white shirt. His eyes were sad and even though all I wanted was to jump on the food, I didn't approach him. We were in the seventh grade, still he dropped ketchup on his shirt everyday, like every single day. He had this thing about him that genuinely attracted everyone. They didn't want to be with Vihaan Merchant, they wanted to be with Vi, like they called him back then. That infuriated me, a lot. Simply because I didn't understand it then. He had food and he had alot of people who wanted to become his friends. So one day, when I couldn't keep it together anymore, I approached him."
"That day, I was more than just hungry. I was starving. So I picked my bag up and sat in the seat ahead of him, turning in my seat. I sat there for a few minutes, only observing him. He, like everyday, sat there, ketchup stain visible. He was chewing slowly, his eyes having absolutely no life at all."
"Do you know my name?" I ask him and his sad eyes snap to me. He blinks twice before shaking his head in denial, adjusting his school tie nervously.
I nod and look at his food, water rushing to my mouth immediately. He notices that and he pushes the box towards me. I looked up in his eyes and he gave me a soft genuine smile, the first one I had gotten in a long time.
I pick up a roll and ate it, mourning at the taste of it immediately.
"You like it?" he asks and I nod furiously. Something, just for a fleeting second, crosses his eyes and he gives me a soft smile.
"After that, it became our usual routine. Every short break, I'd rush to his desk and sit across him. The next day, he had packed more food, for me. I ate and for some odd reason, he loved the fact that I loved his food. We did this for two weeks without saying anything to each other. I smiled at him everyday and he shared his food with me. We had developed this weird understanding slash relationship. Then after two weeks, we had our first, real conversation."
"You're Ayana, right?" he asks me and I look up from the roll before nodding.
"And you're Vihaan, right?" I ask and he nods too.
I was expecting him to ask me about my achievements or what gadgets I had and the normal stuff which people asked me about, but he surprised me.
"You like this?" he asks and I nod.
"Will you believe me if I tell you I made it?" he asks and I nod normally before realisation hits me and my head snaps up and my eyes grow wide.
"You made this? This is amazing! You've got skill!" I exclaim.
"And just like that, he was my first and best friend. We talked about everything other than my money or my fame. We talked books, we talked games, we talked cars and normal stuff. I forgot my sick life when I was with him. The friendship was mutual and we became 'the duo' of our school. Everybody, as usual, wanted our attention. But it's not like we cared. We knew all of them were fake and selfish. We didn't want a third wheel, well until-"
Krisanne cuts me off. "Well until I walked into the picture, quite literally."
