*Chapter One Hundred*
*Happy 100th chapter!!!*
The day mocked Claire Forbes and Kol Mikaelson. The sun shined brightly in the sky. The temperature is perfect. Even the birds chirped harmoniously in the tress.
"Kol" Claire whispers as her eyes slowly open. She felt weak, weaker than she's remembered ever being. She tried to move but her body barely responded. She feels the softness of the bed she's laying on and recognizes the room she's in, it's Kol's.
"I'm here, Angel, I'm right here" Kol said taking her hand in his. He's sitting in a chair beside the bed. He lifts her hand to his lips and kisses it lightly. Her head slowly rolls over to look at him. A small smile comes onto her face, it falters when she notices his bloodshot eyes and the look on his face.
"What... What's going on?" She whispers not understanding why she feels so weak, so tired. Not understanding the look of heartbreak in his eyes."What's wrong?"
The crowd slowly dispersed. Claire didn't move a muscle, neither did Kol. They stood beside each other, their hands gripping each other's. Klaus, Finn, Elijah and Henrik stood slightly behind them. Caroline stood on the other side of Claire but stood a few steps to the side.
"Why don't we head back to the mansion?" Rebekah suggests to Bonnie, Jamie, Hanna and the rest of Asher's family. "Give them some time"
"That's probably a good idea" Hanna nods turning to her family. "Come on, they'll join us when they're ready" Rebekah turns to look at her brothers and Claire once more before leaving with the others.
"You went into labor... at the graduation." Kol whispers moving closer to her.
"I did?" She whispers. He nods looking away from her and down to their linked fingers. "Where is he? I want to see him." She said squirming in her bed. He places a gentle hand on her shoulder. She relaxes at his touch and looks at him. "Where is he?" She asked softer.
Kol lifts her hand back up to his lips. He closes his eyes and kisses her hand. His grip on her tightens. Claire can feel her energy returning to her. She didn't know if it was fear or adrenaline that was giving her the energy but she didn't care, she needed to know what Kol knew.
"It doesn't make sense" Bonnie said her arm linked with Jamie's. "The baby was healthy. It was alive the entire time. How could this..." Bonnie's voice fades as she makes eye contact with a teary eyed Hanna. "Oh my God" Bonnie covered her mouth.
"What? What is it?" Jamie asked turning Bonnie towards him. However, she look continued to look at Hanna. Heart quenching guilt began to eat her alive.
"Kol, tell me what happened." Claire demanded. Kol takes in a small breath and reluctantly meets her gaze. She could see the tears clouding in his eyes. "Kol" Claire whimpered. "Where's my baby?"
Kol doesn't answer. His head turns towards the edge of the bed. Claire slowly follows his gaze and notices a crib. She could see a figure laying inside, a silent figure.
"Why isn't he crying?... Kol, why it's he making noise?" Claire asked looking at him. She watches the tears fall down his face.
Claire lays her head on his shoulder. Kol rests his head on top of hers. Claire wanted to look away but no matter how hard she tried, her eyes remained glued onto the headstone. Where there was one, there's now two.
"I want to hold him... I want my baby!" Claire shouted.
"Alright, Angel, alright" Kol mutters leaning over to kiss her forehead. He stands and walks over to the crib. He clenches his eyes trying to hold it together. He slowly, hesitantly bends down and gently takes his son in his arms. He can feel the hole in his heart tearing wider as a sob releases from his lips.
"Oh, my baby" Claire whispers holding her child for the first time. He didn't move. He didn't cry. He didn't open his eyes.
"What are you doing here?" Caroline snapped walking up to Liz. "You shouldn't be here."
"No matter what's happened, that is still my daughter." Liz told Caroline.
"She may be your daughter but you don't get to choose when you want to be in her life and when you don't. You don't get to come in and out of her life like you have. I begged you not to leave and you did, right when she needed you the most, again." Caroline snapped. Liz sighs looking away. "You walked out of her life again, don't come back."
"Caroline-" Liz sighs.
"Don't" Caroline shakes her head. "She needed you and you turned your back on her."
"And you think she doesn't need me now?" Liz asked raising her eyebrows.
"No, she doesn't" Caroline shakes her head. "You want to know why? Because she has people who love her, who won't abandon her no matter how tough things get, people who understand her and what she's going through."
"I love her" Liz snapped.
"Maybe but you don't understand her and you don't try to." Caroline shakes her head. "So, why don't you leave? Because the last thing she needs right now, is you coming back into her life and then leaving again when something happens that upsets you or something happens that you don't understand." Caroline said strongly. "You've had countless chances to have a relationship with her, do her a favor and just leave."
"Fine" Liz sighs taking a step back. "Let her know if she needs me, I'm here for her"
"I'll let her know" Caroline nods. Liz sighs and hands Caroline the flowers before walking away. Caroline sighed and looked at the flowers before looking back to her mother. She then turns towards her sister who's tucked into Kol's side. She sighs softly and hangs her head.
"Explain to me, what the bloody hell happened" Klaus growled glaring at the Irish doctor.
"The baby is stillborn. It happens" The doctor answered. "No vampire has ever had a child, perhaps this is why."
"Vampires cannot procreate unless their soulmates, we've figured this out." Elijah tells him.
"So you knocked your mate up, getting her pregnant is the easy part, having a successful pregnancy is obviously not so easy." The doctor replied. "I'm sorry it happened but it could be worse, you could have lost both of them." They all growl at the thought of losing Claire. "It's a terrible thing that's happened and I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do."
"Hanna, can I talk to you?" Bonnie muttered. Hanna sighs and nods. The two of them, including Hanna's younger siblings, Jim and Henley, went into a separate room. "Please tell me we didn't do this." Bonnie whispered.
"We didn't do anything" Henley snapped pacing around the room. "It's the fucking Ancestor's that did this." She growled full of anger. Bonnie slowly sits on the couch, covering her mouth.
"Calm down" Hanna said gently. She sits beside Bonnie and pulls her into her embrace. Bonnie leans into her as a few tears fall down her face.
"Calm down?!" Henley snapped. "All we did was bring a girl's soulmate back, we saved her life, both of theirs. And those Ancestor's murdered that child!" Henley shouted.
"Lower your voice" Hanna snapped right before Rebekah barged into the room. She looks around at the witches.
"Start talking, now" She demanded having heard what Henley said. Henley, Jim and Hanna all shared a look.
"There's consequences to every action." Hanna told her. Bonnie clenches her eyes shut. "Especially when you bring someone back from the dead." Hanna whispers resting her head on top of Bonnie's.
"You're telling me that you brought Kol back and because of that, Theo died?" Rebekah asked.
"I didn't think they would take the baby, none of us did" Hanna said. "All we wanted was to bring Kol back"
"We can't tell, Claire" Henley whispers. "It'll destroy her" She falls into a chair. Jim looks at his sister and sits on the arm of the chair, rubbing her back comfortingly.
"She's smart" Bonnie whispers. "She'll figure it out eventually."
"How can they do this?" Rebekah asked. "Allow Kol to come back and take the child?"
"I guess they would rather have an Original in the world than his child?" Hanna shrugs. "Who knows how the child would have turned out? The blood lust, the morals, would it be more vampire or human?"
"But she can have more children right?" Rebekah asked. "The soulmate bond would work to where she can have children."
"I don't know" Hanna whispers. "I really don't know"
"How can I face her?" Bonnie whispers. "Knowing that something I did made her lose her child."
"You did make her lose her child, nothing you did caused that baby to die" Henley said standing up. "Don't let the Ancestors make you feel that way, their the reason that child died not you. You didn't kill him, they did. Fuck them" She spat strongly. "How dare they take an innocent life, how dare they destroy that child's chance at a future! I hate them!" She screams kicking the table, making it fall over.
"Henley, it's alright, it's alright' Jim said pulling her into a tight hug.
"I hate them... I hate them" Henley cried holding onto Jim like a lifeline. Jim gives the others a small smile before leading Henley out of the room.
"This isn't the first time something like this has happened." Hanna mutters. "This isn't the first child the Ancestors have stolen and lets just say my family is a little more than done with their vengeful ways." She snapped.
"So, what do we do?" Rebekah asked. "What can we do?"
"We stop relying on them." Hanna said.
The magic that they used, the spells, it all flowed through the power of the Ancestors. New spells, different power source, Ancestors loose their hold over them. It's only a theory but after this, they were willing to try anything to get away from them.
"Not another one, please no, God no" Claire cried holding her child against her chest. "Come back to me, please don't leave me."
Kol climbs into bed and pulls her into his chest. Claire lays on her side, cuddling their child between the two of them. Kol holds her tightly. He rests his head on top of hers, his eyes memorizing his child.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry" Claire cried into Kol's chest.
"No, Angel, no...You have nothing to be sorry for... This is not your fault." Kol told her sternly. "You did nothing wrong."
"Why don't we go home, Angel?" Kol muttered kissing the top of her head.
"I don't want to leave them" Claire whimpered. "I can't leave them, not my babies" Claire shoves Kol away from her and she moves closer to the graves, collapsing to the ground. "Not my babies, I can't leave them" She cries. Kol kneels beside her and pulls her into his arms.
"We're not leaving them, we'll never leave them" He whispers holding her to his chest. "They'll always be with us, we'll carry them in our hearts." He kisses her head and rocks her lightly. "I'm here, Angel... We'll get through this together."
"I can't" She cries. "I barely survived losing Aaron, and now I've lost Theo. Parents aren't supposed to outlive their children and I've outlived two of them" She shoves Kol again and screams. She screams her heart out and pounds her fist into the ground. "Why are they always being taken from me?!" She screams. "Their my children! Mine! I want them back" She shouted before her body sags. "I want them back." She cries.
"I do too, darling, I do too" Kol whispers bringing her back into his arms. "Let's go home, Angel" He whispers. "Come on" He helps her stand up. "Hey," He whispers moving her head so that she's looking at him. "You're not alone, you will never be alone. I love you and I'm going to be right beside you the entire time."
"Ok" She whispers nodding. He presses his lips on her forehead gently. His hand rubs her back soothingly. She looks back to the gravestone.
