*Chapter Ninety One* {A View to a Kill}

"Elena's planning on killing Kol" Bonnie said barging in on Claire who was trying to get Madelyn dressed. Claire tenses and looks at Bonnie. "She asked me to help." Claire tilts her head and narrows her eyes slightly. "I said no, don't worry but just because I said no doesn't mean she's going to stop trying."

"If Jeremy kills Kol, he'll complete the hunters mark" Claire realizes. "If they antagonize him, he react just like they want, they'll be waiting for him." Claire stands and begins to pace. "Damn it Kol, why won't you let me in" Clair panics as she tries to use the bond to communicate with him but his mind is closed off.

"Claire, Claire, wait a second" Bonnie said walking up to her quickly. "Do they even have a white oak stake?"

"I don't know" Claire whimpers. "I don't know" Bonnie quickly helps her sit down. Her hands start to shake and her breathing becomes unstable. Bonnie doesn't know what to do, doesn't know how to calm her down.

"Claire" Finn says speeding into the room. Bonnie quickly moves out of his way and he kneels in front of his mate. "Princess, look at me" Finn says gently. He grabs her face and moves it so she has no choice but to look at him. "Breath, my love, breath." He can see her trying to calm down but it's not working. He picks her up and sits in her seat before placing her in is lap. He holds her tightly and she curls in his arm. He rests his head on hers as she cries in his chest.

"What set her off?" Bonnie looks to the door seeing Henrik. Bonnie is hesitant to repeat what she told Claire, not wanting to set her friend off again.

"She wants to kill Kol" Claire whimpers. Henrik doesn't hear her but Finn does.

"Who wants to, Princess?" Finn whispers tucking some of her hair behind her ear.

"Elena" Claire mutters. Finn looks at Bonnie who nods.

"Tell Klaus and Elijah" Finn orders. Bonnie nods and wonders off, Henrik follows her. "Calm down, love... Their not going to kill him, we won't let it happen."

"We have to find him." Claire said climbing out of his lap. "I'm tired of being stuck in this house, I'm going to go look for him. Alison!" Claire calls out for the hybrid.

"Claire, think this threw. Elena wants to kill Kol. What's the best way to lure any of us in?" Finn asks.

"I don't care, if she wants to try and kidnap me I'll drive a fucking steak threw her heart." Claire snapped. She was done with people trying to kill her mates and she was done just standing aside and doing nothing.

"It's too dangerous" Finn growls.

"You called" Alison said appearing in the doorway.

"I need you to watch Madelyn for me, please" Claire said desperately.

"Of course, is there anything else you need?" Alison asked concerned. She didn't like the state Claire was in. She seemed pale and there's bags under her eyes. Alison wondered how much sleep she's gotten recently.

"No, that'll be all, thank you" Claire said before leaving the room. Finn follows her quickly.

"I'm not letting you-"

"Try and stop me" Claire snapped turning towards him. He comes to an abrupt stop. "My mate is out there losing his mind, scared to death that if he doesn't kill Jeremy he loses me. My ex-best friend is trying to kill him and may very well have a chance at that. You can try to keep me here but you will not succeed" She growled. Finn sighs.

"I'm coming with you."

"Fine" She said turning back around and marching away. Finn sighs and follows her.

"Claire" Bonnie said jogging over to her. "Claire, wait, we need to plan."

"We have had our time to plan, I have to get Kol back now" Claire snapped.

"I understand but if we go out there it'll be like a bunch of chickens with our heads cut off. Let's organize a little bit and maybe we'll have a shot" Bonnie said. Claire sighs and gives in.

Everyone meets in Klaus's study. Klaus sits at his desk. Claire stands across the desk looking at the map of Mystic Falls. The rest of the Mikaelson's, including Rebekah, were in attendance. Asher and Archie were also in the room along with Bonnie, Jamie and Caroline. Claire felt slightly better with so many people looking for Kol, someone was bound to find him.

"We're going to have to look everywhere, who knows where Kol is hiding out. Especially since he knows we're looking for him. He'll hide either in the most obvious spot or the hardest." Claire told them.

"Jamie and I can take the falls and the surrounding area" Bonnie volunteered.

"Me and the twins can take the remainder of the forest." Rebekah said mentioning Asher and Archie.

"It's a big forest, I'll join you" Elijah says. Rebekah nods still feeling guilty for what she's done.

"Klaus and Henrik, take the town square." Claire ordered. Klaus and Henrik nod, neither one of them willing to object.

"I'll stay here, in case for some reason he shows up. He could notice everyone is gone and might come for something" Caroline said. Claire nods before looking at Finn.

"We'll watch Elena's house, search the neighborhood. If Elena is going to kill him, it'll be in a familiar place. A place she knows but Kol doesn't. It won't be a big advantage but it'll be something" Claire told them. "If you find anything or don't find anything, let everyone know."

"Are you sure you should be out there?" Klaus asks. "This kind of stress isn't good for the child."

"And sitting at home worried about everybody's safety is better?" Claire asks tilting her head. She gives him a soft smile. "I'll be with Finn, everything will be fine" She assures them. Klaus reluctantly nods and they split up.

Kol had to admit, he was impressed by the size of the search party Claire had put together. It warmed his heart to see his family, his mate out there looking for him. However, if anything, it made him want to complete his quest more. He needed to do this, to protect his family. He knew they didn't believe in Silas which made this all the more important, he had to protect them because they weren't clever enough to protect themselves.

"Jeremy Gilbert, come to your senses mate?" Kol answers the phone with a smirk on his face.

"Actually, it's Elena Gilbert" Kol stops walking and frowns his eyebrows.

"What a treat" Kol replies and slowly starts to walk again. He keeps an eye out for anybody looking for him. "Yeah, I was just thinking of all the clever ways I could have your brother killed, but I'd settle for ripping off his illustrated arm instead." He told her with a shrug.

"I need to talk to you... In person." Elena said. Kol presses his lips together. "I wanna call a truce, in the name of Silas" Kol stops walking again.

"You want to talk about Silas?" He asked not even bothered to hide the surprise in his voice.

"I'll meet you wherever you want. I'll come to you." Kol smirks and speeds to her house.

"I'll tell you what. How about I come to you?" Kol rings the doorbell. There's a moment of silence. "If you want a truce, open the door and invite me in." There's more silence. Paranoia and annoyance begin to bubble in Kol's stomach. "I'm waiting." He snipped. "Let me in and let's talk truce." Kol rolls his eyes when she doesn't answer. "Hello?"

"Wouldn't that be kind of stupid to invite you in?" Elena questioned.

"On the contrary, I can't kill your brother with my own two hands, or I'll suffer the hunter's curse and spend the next twenty years trying to off myself in gruesome ways." Kol could vaguely remember Klaus going through it. Kol didn't bother to stick around to watch Klaus try to kill himself, he had better things to do. "And I've heard that vervain's back in town" Kol adds. Bonnie's father, Rudy, had started to put vervain in the water so everyone was drinking it, very annoying. "So I can't compel you to kill him either. So I think it's fair to say you're semi-safe... for now."

"I'm the only one that can invite him inside" Jeremy whispers.

"He's right, obviously" Kol rolls his eyes. Eventually, the door opens. "You'd think being alive for over a thousand years would teach me some manners, but I couldn't resist stopping by." Kol said smirking and shrugging his shoulders.

"If I let you in, my brother goes. You're not getting near him." Elena said sternly.

"Fair enough" Kol looks at Jeremy who's nearing the back door.

"You can come in" Jeremy invites before sneaking out.

"No gold medals for bravery, I see. You know the thing I love about modern age is.. music, anytime you like" He motions to the phone in his hand before putting it away.

Elena notices a white oak steak in his jacket. He had gotten it not trusting his siblings to not use it on himself. If Rebekah was willing to dagger him, would she be willing to kill him? He wasn't going to take that chance.

"So... this is the part where you offer me a drink so we can have a proper chat" Kol smirks. Elena nods and closes the door. The two of them walk to the kitchen.

"I'll be right back" Elena said. Kol nods and looks around the house. He wasn't impressed. He pulls out his phone and notices the countless missed calls from literally everybody but the most are from Claire.

His heart aches for her. The distance is killing him. He misses her so much. He loves her with all of his heart and that's why he does this, he had to keep reminding himself. If he gave in, he'd abandon the quest and just run into her arms. He didn't know how much more strong will he had before he gave into his desires. He hoped he had enough to get the job done.

"Sorry, I had to dig up the old people alcohol" Elena said coming back. Kol turns to her. He goes into the kitchen.

"Yeah, that's the problem with people today. They have no drinking imagination. Turn-of-the-century New Orleans, now, they knew how to make a drink" Kol tells her as he remembers that time period.

"You lived in New Orleans?" Elena asked genuinely curious.

"We all did, till Niklaus shoved a dagger in my heart" Kol rolls his eyes but then frowns his eyebrows. He didn't feel the same level of anger towards his brother as he mentions being daggered. Sure he felt angry but it didn't consume him anymore. He didn't feel the familiar urge to seek revenge. It was like he was simply recalling a fact and it brought out next to no emotions from him. It confused him.

"Why? What did you do?" Elena asked. Now that, angered him.

"What makes you think I did anything?" He asked slightly angry. "Has your alliance with my brother softened you to his horrors?" Even he didn't believe the anger that was lanced through his words. Why was he not angry with Klaus for what he's done? He didn't understand it.

"I don't have an alliance with Klaus. We had a mutual interest in finding the cure... that's all" Elena shrugs.

"Had?" Kol asks frowning his eyebrows.

"Yes and I'm willing to give up looking for it if you promise to leave my brother alone." Kol doesn't respond. He simply watches her. She picks up the mixer. "Now, can you teach me how to make this?" Elena asks smiling slightly. Kol takes the mixer. "I'll get some ice."

Kol grabs the alcohol and begins to pour. His mind was racing. He was thinking about everything. He thought about Claire, Silas, New Orleans, his brother, his lack of anger, Claire, Elena's true intentions, Claire, making the mixed drink.

Elena grabs some ice and closes the fridge door. She jumps not expect Kol to be standing so close to her. He knew she was up to something, he's not an idiot. He was curious to see how long she could keep this up before combusting of anxiety.

"Here you go" She gives the ice to him.

"Would you like one?" He asks.

"Sure, why not?" Elena smiles and nods. Kol smirks and puts the ice i the drinks.

"So, are we going to talk about Silas?" Kol asks raising his eyebrows at her.

"Nobody else seems to think Silas exists, so why do you?" Elena wonders.

"I used to run with some witches. Africa in the fourteenth century, Haiti in the seventeenth century, New Orleans in the nineteen hundreds. They all knew about Silas; that he needed to stay buried. I actually hold witches in high esteem."

"Yeah but why Silas? Why are you so afraid of him?"

"They said if Silas rises, hell unleash hell on Earth. I happen to like Earth just the way it is." Kol told her.

"That's pretty biblical."

"Well, that's the other problem with people today... They've lost faith. And in that loss, they no longer know who they should fear." Kol shrugs. Elena nods silently.

Kol wonders out of the kitchen and around the house. Elena notices the alcohol has run out and quickly looks for more. Kol finds a photo of Elena and Jeremy. He stares at it while Elena walks in with a bottle of wine.

"So, we're out of gin, but I think this is a good year" Elena said.

"What if I said I don't believe you?" Kol said.

"Ok, you caught me, I don't know anything about wine" Kol looks at Elena.

"It just seems odd that you'd be so willing to give up something you want so much." Kol said walking towards Elena.

"I would do anything for my brother... and if what you're saying about Silas is true, what does it matter what I want if it puts everyone else in danger?"

"Well, this has been enlightening. Thanks or the drinks." Kol starts to leave and Elena panics. "I'll take your request for a truce under advisement."

"Is there any chance you could be wrong about Silas?" Elena asks. Kol looks at her.

"Trust me, Elena... Somethings are better left buried" Kol said before walking out the door. Kol doesn't get far.

He thinks about what Elena's said. He doesn't believe her, he doesn't think she'll just leave this alone for the sake of others. Doesn't sound like an Elena thing to do.

"I've considered your request for a truce" Kol said reappearing at the Gilbert out. Much to his happiness, Jeremy is with Elena. "Request denied" He smirks. Elena slams the door in his face only further exciting him. "I'm sorry, I've already been invited in!" He shouts and kicks the door open. He doesn't see Elena nor Jeremy. "Hide and seek? Fine by me." He smirks and begins his search.

Bonnie ~ Kol is at Elena's. He has a white oak stake.

"Oh my God" Claire whispers. Finn looks at her and then the phone. She looks up at him. He picks her up and speeds her to the Gilbert residence. "Oh my God" Claire whispers seeing the door to Elena's house is kicked in. "Kol!" She screams.

"Claire!" Finn reached out and grabbed her. He could hear the fighting, the struggle. Claire grips onto Finn, siphoning some magic from him.

"I'm sorry, Finn" Claire whispers. Finn looks down at her. She immobilizes him and slips from his grasp.

"Claire!" Finn shouted trying to follow her but unable to do so. Only when she's inside the house does she lift the spell. Finn speeds to the door but is unable to get in. "Claire!"

"Kol! Kol, where are you?!" Claire follows the bond and it leads her to the kitchen.

"Jeremy, now!" Elena shouted.

"No!" Claire screams. "Jeremy, don't!" Claire begs. Everything seemed to freeze. Jeremy pushes the steak into Kol's chest. Kol groans feeling the steak brush against his heart. "Jeremy, please, I'm begging you!" Jeremy hesitates and Claire know's he's listening to her. "Look, I know you have to complete your mark, I'll help you but please, do not kill Kol. I'm pregnant, I'm pregnant with his child." Jeremy's head snaps to her.

"That's impossible" Elena said. Claire shakes her head.

"No, it's not. I promise you, please believe me. Jeremy, please do not kill him." Claire begs.

"Jeremy, don't listen to her, vampires cannot procreate" Elena reminds him. "Do it!"

"Don't!" Claire cries, her face soaking with tears. "It's possible, he's my soulmate, please don't take him from me." She whimpers.

"Soulmates aren't real Jeremy, she probably got knocked up by some guy in town, you have to do this Jeremy." Elena tells her brother.

"Shut up!" Claire holds her hand out and tries to use her magic on her but Elena anticipated it. Elena sped over to Jeremy. "No!"
