*Chapter Ninety*

"Kol" Claire whispers. She dashes away from the stall door and straight into his arms. She clings onto him as tightly as she can. "Don't ever do that again" Claire whispers.

"I'm sorry, darling" Kol mutters burying his head into her neck. "I have to make sure you're safe" They fall into a peaceful silence. Very reluctantly, Claire pulls away but only enough to kiss his lips. Kol speeds them towards the nearest wall, scaring the shit out of some poor horse, and deepens the kiss.

"I missed you" She says looking into his eyes. Her hands slide down his face to his chest. His hands brush along her growing stomach.

"I missed you both" He whispers. She smiles softly. He gives her another kiss. Her hands dart to his hair, pulling him as close as she possibly can.

"You have to call Damon off" She whispers with her eyes closed. She can feel him tense. She clings onto him but he escapes her grip nonetheless.

"I knew they had gotten to you, I knew it" He snapped marching away from her.

"Kol, please talk to me" Claire begged walking towards him. "I believe you, I believe Silas is real" This gets him to freeze. He turns to her, his eyebrows frowned.

"You do?" He questions doubtfully. Claire nods.

"I believe you have every right to be afraid, I am too." Kol relaxes slightly. "But that doesn't give you a right to just take matters into your own hands, to go out on your own. We're a family and we work through our problems together. Don't shut me out Kol, talk to me. Let's figure this out."

"The only thing we can do to keep our family safe is to make sure Silas is never found. That means Jeremy has to die."

"No, I don't believe that" Claire shakes her head. "There has to be another way" Kol speeds up to her and gently takes her face in his hands.

"As long as people search for the cure, as long as the map is available, Silas can be resurrected and you will be in danger. I will not risk your safety, our child's safety, so my brother can make hybrids and Rebekah can have some fantasy she might not truly want." Kol growls lowly.

"So we convince them to give up the search. Nobody has to die, please, Kol" Claire begs. "I owe Jeremy my life." Kol tenses. "If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be here. He's helped me through my times of need and I've helped him through his. Please spare his life, for me." She begs.

"I would do anything for you" He whispers nuzzling his head in her neck. He holds onto her tightly. She relaxes in his grip and hugs him. "But not this." He adds reluctantly. She tenses in his arms and her heart drops. "I'm so sorry, my love, but as long as Jeremy is alive you are in danger"

"Kol" Claire whimpers. She holds onto him as tightly as she can but she's no match for his strength. "Please" She whispers as he back away from her.

"I'm sorry, love... I hope you forgive me but I'd rather have you alive then have your forgiveness." He said before leaving.

"Kol!" She shouted but he was already out of sight. "Damn it" She whispers covering her mouth as tears came to her eyes.

The look in his eyes burned in her memory. It completely broke her heart. He truly believed he was alone in all of this. That no one had his back. After everything she's done to try and convince him he's loved, he still sees himself as the odd one out. That his only purpose in life is to keep her safe.

"Going somewhere?" Rebekah asked catching up to Kol within the mansion. He had changed into fresh clothes and was about to leave before Claire finds him again. "I would if I were you. If Damon kills the hunter, Claire will not be pleased."

"I told Claire I can live without her forgiveness." Kol said. Rebekah frowns her eyebrows slightly as she looks into Kol's eyes. She notices the same thing Claire does. She sees his loneliness, his desperation.

"You truly believe Silas is real" Rebekah whispers.

"And I will do anything to make sure he isn't resurrected" Kol stalks towards his sister. "That means cutting anybody down who gets in my way" He growls. His threat sets her off, she lunges forward but Kol recognizes her move soon enough to dodge it. "You'd really dagger me?" Kol asks feeling betrayed.

"If I do, Damon's compulsion ends and this is all over." Rebekah tells him strongly though she was starting to regret her actions. She hated having her brother look at her like that. He looked at her with such betrayal it made the guilt in her build. "I just want to be human... with Asher... Is that so bad?"

"When it puts my mate in danger" Kol snapped. "I will not allow you to put Claire in harms way just so you can have a human life with Asher... Turn him and you'll have eternity. Awake Silas and my days with my beloved will be numbered."

"You don't know that for certain." Rebekah tells him. Kol glares and races towards her. He slams her into the wall and tries to turn the dagger on her. "Stop!" She shouts as he slowly over powers her.

"Don't worry, I'll wake you when it's over" He smirks deviously. Rebekah felt fear spread through her body.

"Kol!" Kol's concentration breaks and he looks at Klaus. Rebekah takes advantage of his distraction and shoves him away. Kol glares at Rebekah and disappears out the door.

"What did you do?" Klaus snapped marching up to Rebekah. He snatched the dagger away from her.

"I just want Damon's compulsion to go away" Rebekah said trying to get him to see things from her side.

"Is this cure really worth turning on your family?" Klaus asks tilting his head. Anger flares through Rebekah.

"And when have you ever chosen me over one of your crusades?" Rebekah snapped. "I want my own life, you dagger me. I disappoint you, you dagger me. I have no use for you, you dagger me." She shoves Klaus away from her. "I want the cure, I try to dagger Kol, now I'm the bad guy."

"Things are different now" Klaus said.

"Oh, really?" Rebekah snapped.

"You know things are different" Klaus growled. "We have our mates now. All Kol is trying to do is protect Claire. If you were in his position with his beliefs and Asher was the one in danger, would you not do everything in your power to stop the threat?" Rebekah sighs and looks away from him. "I understand that I've wronged our family, ruined it even." Klaus admits shamefully. "But Claire, Asher, Henrik, their all bringing us together again. Their healing out family. If we start turning on each other now, we'll end up just like we were. Kol has never felt apart of this family and you haven't helped change his opinion."

"So, I messed up... What do you suggest we do?" Rebekah shrugs in frustration. Klaus sighs rubbing his face thinking about his next move.

"Just.. Stay here" Klaus said before leaving. He speeds to the Gilbert residence and knocks on the door. Elena opens it with Jeremy behind her. "Good evening, Gilbert clan." Klaus smirks.

"What do you want, Klaus?"

"I've come to fetch my hunter. Seeing as how my brother's become a liability, Jeremy will be safer with me." Klaus points out. He was hoping to take Jeremy and lure Kol back so that they can talk this out but Jeremy seemed less than willing to cooperate.

"I think I'll pass. I've killed enough people for you today." Jeremy snarks. Klaus clenches his jaw knowing he can't just go in and rip the hunter from his hope.

"You think you're safer here? Clearly you don't know Kol. He'll stop at nothing to get what he wants, so strange as it may seem, I'm your best bet." Klaus tries to convince.

"Sorry, but I think we'd rather take our chances." Elena smirks at him. Klaus glares but knows he has no other choice.

"Fine... But when Kol does come, and he will come, be sure to let me know, preferably before he burns your nice little home to the ground. And as for you, hunter, there's no shortage of people to turn or loved ones to threaten, so sleep well. We'll plan on finishing our work tomorrow" Klaus says before leaving the porch. He stops on the sidewalk and looks around before speeding home.

"Maybe we can call Claire, get her to convince Kol to free Damon of the compulsion." Jeremy suggests.

"Claire doesn't care about anybody but herself, she's not going to help us." Elena shakes her head.

"We have to try" Jeremy insists.

"Why would she help us?" Elena snapped. "She's made it clear she doesn't want anything to do with us. We've hurt her one too many times." Jeremy bites his tongue though he wants to correct her. He can't remember hurting Claire himself. All the times she's thinking of are times she's hurt Claire, not him.

"So Kol doesn't free Damon," Jeremy said shrugging. "Now we have Damon trying to kill me and Kol." He snipped. Elena sighs giving him a sad look.

"We'll figure this out" She assures him. Jeremy simply shakes his head.

"This is never gonna end. If Kol doesn't kill me first, then Klaus is just gonna force me to kill more innocent people. How many is it gonna take, 10? 100?" Jeremy asked. Elena sighed trying to think when it comes to her.

"If you kill one Original vampire, their entire sire line will die with them. That's thousands, maybe tens of thousands of vampires." Elena realizes. Jeremy's eyes widen. "Kol compelled Damon to kill you, you're gonna kill Kol instead."

"Wait, you want me to do what?" Jeremy asked surprised.

"Think about it, you kill Kol and your mark is complete. Do you really thing the vampires Kol has turned are innocent?"  Elena raises her eyebrows. "You stop the threat on your life, you complete your mark and we find the cure."

"But he's Claire's mate" Elena rolls her eyes.

"Damon doesn't think that's true" Elena said. "Soulmates don't exist." Jeremy frowns his eyebrows not believing her. "Look, Claire has four other 'mates' she can be with. We have to take Kol out, it's either him or you." Elena points out. Jeremy sighs and reluctantly nods.

"Do you mind if we stay here?" Bonnie asked with Jamie by her side after Claire opens the door to the mansion. Claire frowns her eyebrows not knowing why they would want to stay here but nods nonetheless.

"We have plenty of room" She gives them a small smile. Bonnie returns the smile and enters the house.

"Thank you, Claire" Jamie says carrying a few bags.

"It's no problem, you're welcome to stay for as long as you wish" Claire tells them before closing the door. "Brandon, can you please show them to a spare room?" Claire asks the hybrid.

"Sure, come on" Brandon jerks his head for them to follow him. Claire watches them climb the stairs and head towards the room.

"She's getting stronger" Henrik said. Claire glances at him. "Her magic... I can sense it."

"Her father doesn't approve of magic" Claire informs him. "Maybe that's why she's here" Claire assumes. Henrik walks closer and cups the side of her head.

"You need to rest" He whispers.

"I'll rest when we have Kol" Claire whispers back. He sighs and kisses the top of her head.

"You need to relax" He tries again. "Take a bath, soak in the bubbles. Do something to relieve the stress." He pleads. Claire forces a smile and kisses his lips gently.

"I'm fine" She assures him. "I love you" She whispers. He sighs and holds her close.

"I love you, my darling Angel." He whispers.

"I'm going to get something to eat." She tells him.

"Let me get it for you" Henrik offers. She kisses his cheek and walks to the kitchen. He follows her. "Have a seat" He steers her towards the stools by the bar. She smiles at him and does as told. "What will you have?" He asks smiling at her.

"Peanut butter pickle sandwich?" Claire smiles at him.

"Of course" He grins. "Coming right up, Angel." He turns and starts to make the sandwich. Soon, Bonnie and Jamie come into the kitchen.

"Is the room ok?" Claire asked.

"It's perfect, thank you" Bonnie smiles. Claire nods and motions for them to occupy the remaining seats.

"Want something to eat? Chef Henrik is on duty" Henrik turns to her and winks. She smiles brightly at him.

"Maybe another time" Bonnie grins. "I guess you want to know why we're here"

"I don't have to know" Claire said. Bonnie smiles looking relieved. She was amazed by how quickly she had forgotten about how good of a friend Claire is.

"My dad and I got into a disagreement. He thinks I'm losing control." Bonnie said.

"Control of your magic?" Claire asked. Bonnie nods.

"I've been getting stronger. I was talking to Shane today and he was trying to manipulate me and I got angry." Bonnie sighs. "Maybe I lost control, I don't know but he got what he deserved" Bonnie snipped.

"I'm sure he did" Claire said. "But it never hurts to get more training" Claire mentioned. "I'm sure Hanna won't mind taking you under her wing if you want... Kol knows everything there is to know about magic" Claire smiles but then it fades. "If we get him back."

"When" Henrik corrected her. "When we get him back I'm sure he will have no problem helping you." He said looking at Bonnie.

"So, I take it he's still missing." Bonnie said.

"He came by earlier" Claire told her. "He didn't look good. He's scared and he's paranoid and he's on his own. I tried talking to him but he left then Rebekah tried to dagger him so if we had any chance of convincing him to stop, that's gone now."

"There's always hope" Bonnie smiles grabbing her hand. "We just have to stay positive and keep trying" Claire smiles at her while Henrik puts the sandwich in front of his mate.

"If you need anything, ask me, one of my mates or one of the hybrids, we'll help" Claire tells her grabbing the sandwich.

"I can't thank you enough for letting us stay here." Bonnie said.

"What are friends for?" Claire smiles at her.
