*Chapter Fourteen* {Isobel}
*Skipped Miss Mystic Falls and Blood Brothers.*
Claire loves Madelyn with her entire heart. She knew she would give her life for her child without a second thought, without hesitation. There wasn't a thing on Earth Claire wouldn't do for her child.
But God damn does her little baby have a pair of lungs. Claire loved her baby but she wasn't very interesting at the moment, granted, she is barely two months old. All Madelyn did was scream, cry, sleep, eat and shit.
Claire remembered a time where she thought, quite stupidly she now realizes, that she would get more sleep once she wasn't pregnant anymore. While she was able to get more comfortable, now that she didn't have a whale of a stomach, that didn't exactly mean she got more sleep. Claire figured she was starting to get even less sleep, which she didn't think was possible.
"I love you Madelyn but please let me sleep" Claire whined but Madelyn continued to cry ruthlessly. Claire groaned and looked at her phone, wincing at the bright light. "Three in the fucking morning. Why am I even surprised?" Claire wondered to herself out loud. She sighed and rubbed her face, forcing herself to stand up as Madelyn made it clear she wasn't shutting up.
As carefully as she could, Claire picked Madelyn up. She shushed the baby and bounced her lightly as she got ready to breast feed. Claire still got a weird sensation whenever Madelyn fed from her. Claire enjoyed it. She liked someone being dependent on her but it was still a surreal feeling.
"Is that better beautiful?" Claire whispered sitting in the rocking chair Liz had given her. Claire let Madelyn continue to feed off of her as she thought about her mother. She couldn't be more thankful that Liz was no longer ignoring her, that she had fought for Claire's forgiveness because Liz was a crucial part in all this.
Liz had experience and helped Claire more than she could ever imagine. There were things that came up that Claire had no idea what to do but with Liz's little guidance, everything worked out just fine. It was such a relief to have her mother helping her. It was like this huge weight is off her shoulders.
Claire then thought about what was going to happen today. Today, or later when it was actually a somewhat decent time, is her first day back to school. Claire was completely dreading it. Her and Madelyn had bonded during their time together and Claire couldn't imagine being separated from her.
Liz has a friend from high school, Sarah, that's going to be the 'nanny' for Madelyn until she's old enough to go to a day care. Claire tried to convince her mother to let her stay home for a little while longer but she wasn't hearing it.
"Mommy's going to miss you so much" Claire whispers kissing the top of her now sleeping child's head. "I love you but mommy has to get some sleep too" Claire whispers standing up before she could fall asleep in the chair. She gently sets Madelyn down and collapses in bed, lazily throwing the covers over her instantly falling asleep.
"Claire! Wake up!" Claire heard Caroline shouting way too soon. Claire whimpered and whined dramatically.
"I just fell asleep" Claire complained.
"Welcome to motherhood" Caroline smirked. "But we're going to school so you get a little break besides, someone's hear to see you so get dressed."
"Who's here?" Claire asked frowning her eyebrows lifting her head to look at her sister.
"Get dressed, chop chop" Caroline said clapping her hands before walking away. Claire groaned loudly dropping her head onto her pillow tiredly. She almost fell asleep when Madelyn screamed demanding her attention.
"Alright, alright, I'm up" Claire said getting off the bed. She fed Madelyn and quickly got dressed. "Come here, baby girl." Claire said picking Madelyn up. She made various noises and squirmed slightly. "Not a morning person? Neither is your mom" Claire said to Madelyn. "Mom?"
"In the kitchen!" Liz shouted. Claire followed her voice tensing when she saw who was in there with her.
"Bonnie?" Claire frowned her eyebrows. The witch quickly stood up.
"Can we talk?" Bonnie asked fiddling with her fingers nervously.
"Mom" Claire said and Liz nodded walking over. She smiled taking her granddaughter. Claire nodded for her to come into her room. Bonnie closed the door giving them privacy. "What did you want to talk about?"
"I'm sorry" Bonnie said. "I'm sorry for how I treated you. For ignoring you. For not being there for you. I was selfish and a terrible friend." Bonnie told her instantly.
"What happened to being a freak? An abomination?" Claire asked crossing her arms. Bonnie smiled at her.
"You no more of a freak than I am" Bonnie said shrugging. "What happened... that day. I didn't understand it. And my... my Grams automatically just wrote you off like that. I didn't know what to think but I did some research and I learned more about what you are. You didn't ask to be like this, you couldn't control it and it was wrong of me to treat you like that."
"I missed you, Bonbon" Claire whispered.
"I missed you too" Bonnie whispered and the two of them hugged tightly.
"I'm so sorry" Claire told her. "I didn't mean to hurt you, I really didn't."
"I know, I know" Bonnie whispered. "But we're going to figure it out" She said pulling away. "I don't know how it works or what you can do but we're going to figure it out" She said confidently as they pulled away.
"You'd do that with me?" Claire asked.
"Of course, you're my best friend" Bonnie said. Claire smiled at her. "And we'll start looking for a way to bring back ghost boy."
"Henrik" His name rolled off of her tongue gracefully. Just saying it sent a pleasant shiver down her spine and a calming wave through her body.
"Henrik?" Bonnie asked frowning her eyebrows.
"When I first... siphoned from you I saw him again. I talked to him, I could touch him. It was only for a few moments." She told her.
"So whenever you siphon my magic, you see him, you talk to him" Bonnie concluded and she nodded.
"I don't know what it is. I could see him before I could siphon from you but your magic just gives me the little extra push to summon him. To have physical contact. To talk to him." Bonnie smiled at the look on her face.
"Do you want to try it again?" Bonnie asked holding her hand out.
"It hurts you" Claire reminded her. "I could kill you Bonnie"
"I'll pull away before you take too much. I deserve a little pain after I ignored you for so long, especially during a time you really needed me." Bonnie said still offering her hand. Claire smiled at her.
"I really appreciate it Bonnie, you have no idea how much that means to me" Claire said stepping forward. "But I'd rather find a way to bring him back without hurting you."
"And we will" Bonnie told her confidently. "I promise" Claire smiled at her nodded.
"Do you wanna meet Madelyn?" Claire offered. Bonnie lit up and nodded quickly. The two of them left the room.
"Are you two finally good now?" Caroline asked popping her hip out with crossed arms. Bonnie and Claire smiled at each other before nodding. "Finally" Caroline groaned out.
"Mom?" Liz called out to Claire and she followed her voice, Bonnie following her. "Hi pretty baby, look who's finally waking up." Claire cooed smiling at Madelyn. She carefully took her from her mother and walked over to Bonnie.
"Bonnie meet Madelyn, Madelyn this is my best friend, Bonnie" Claire introduced.
"She's precious" Bonnie whispered and Claire nodded.
"Do you wanna hold her?" Bonnie nodded and Claire transferred her to the Bennett Witch. Claire smiled and hovered protectively.
"She's so small" Bonnie noticed. Claire smiled nodding.
"She's getting bigger every day." Claire told her.
"She's beautiful.. She looks just like you" Bonnie said. "Except for the hair" She said noticing the little bit of hair that Madelyn did have was dark.
"Yeah, she got that from her father" Claire rolled her eyes in annoyance. "But at least she's favoring me in looks."
"You gonna fess up on who it is or are we gonna have to go talk to Maury Povich?" Bonnie teased and Claire laughed.
"It doesn't matter who the father is. He didn't help before and I know he's not gonna help now. I don't want his help, I don't want him anywhere near her." Claire growled protectively at the end. Bonnie slowly nodded and handed Madelyn back to her which seems to calm her down.
"We gotta go, Baby" Caroline said softly knowing how hard this was gonna be for her sister. Claire pouts and tightens her hold on Madelyn. Not to the point where it would hurt her, just to keep her close.
"She's going to be fine" Liz reassured.
"I don't even know this Sarah, mom. You're asking me to trust a complete stranger with my daughter" Claire deadpans.
"Sarah, is trustworthy. Trust me" Liz pleaded standing in front of her.
"Mom, she's my everything... If anything were to happen-"
"You don't think I feel the same exact way about you and Caroline?" Liz asked smiling at her. "I love Madelyn, Claire. I would never put her in harms way. Trust me" Claire sighs and gives her Madelyn.
"Come on" Caroline grabs her sister slowly coaxing her out of the room. Claire kept her eyes on Madelyn for as long as she could. As soon as Madelyn is out of sight, Claire can already feel the separation anxiety start to build.
Nothing helped the anxiety. Even as they got to school and her friends came up to her, all she could think about was Madelyn. Was she ok? Was Sarah trust worthy? Did Madelyn miss her? Did Madelyn need her?
"Earth to Claire" Caroline said snapping her fingers in front of Claire. The little sister snaps out of it and gives Caroline a sheepish smile. "Are you gonna help?"
"Help with what?" Claire frowned her eyebrows. They, Caroline, Claire and Bonnie, were at lunch.
"The Founders Day party" Claire makes an expression of understanding. "Let's reference last years Miss Mystic float" Caroline said pulling it up on her computer. Bonnie and Claire watch. "This is what they did last year" They both look at the picture. "And this is exactly what we don't want to do."
"Ew" Bonnie commented and Claire nodded. Caroline nodded as well. "Ok, so, what are we doing?" Bonnie asked.
"Southern classic elegance" Caroline told her.
"Gone with the Wind?" Bonnie guessed. Caroline looked at her shocked.
"How'd you know?" Caroline asked.
"You channel Scarlett, daily" Bonnie said smiling. Claire smirked.
"So true" Caroline didn't bother denying it. The three girls laughed quietly. "Where's Elena? She's supposed to be helping" Caroline said in a frustrated tone.
"I don't know" Bonnie shrugged and Caroline gave her a look.
"Ok, what's the deal?" Caroline asked.
"What do you mean?" Bonnie asked back.
"Don't play dumb. You and Elena are fighting. Spill" Caroline demanded.
"It's nothing" Bonnie brushed off but Caroline wasn't letting her go that easily.
"It's not nothing. You know this whole float is supposed to be about friends creating something together and everyone is fighting. Matt and Tyler hate each other, you and Elena are on the outs. I just managed to get you two to stop fighting" Bonnie and Claire glanced at each other. "I don't like this! All this fighting. And I can't fix it if I don't know what's wrong" Caroline said her shoulder slouching.
"I can't talk about it, Caroling, I'm sorry." Bonnie said giving her a small smile. Caroline huffed disappointingly.
"I'm going to call home" Claire said standing up.
"Baby, you've called like five times in the last half an hour. Madelyn is fine" Caroline said. Claire ignored her and left the cafeteria.
"How is she doing?" Bonnie asked once she was gone.
"She's better but she's still devastated over Aaron. I hear her crying at night" Caroline said sadly. "I don't know how to help her."
"You are helping her. Caroline, you've been her rock this entire time. You may not see it but you are helping by just being there" Bonnie said. "If it weren't for you, she'd be so far off the deep end nobody could bring her back."
"She'd come back for Madelyn." Caroline told her. Bonnie shrugged.
"If somebody was able to snap her out of her grief like you did" Bonnie said. "She needs you Care and you being there for her, it means the world to her. I can tell." Caroline smiled to herself softly.
"Will you hate me if I don't stay and help with the float?" Claire asked. Caroline smiled and playfully rolled her eyes at her.
"It's not like you'll be any help anyways, you're mind has been at home all day. Go" Claire smiled and hugged her sister tightly before going to the car and heading home as quickly as she could.
"Hello?" Claire asked practically running into the door.
"Hi, Claire" Sarah said coming into view. Claire gave her a forced polite smile. She still didn't like the fact that she was practically forced to leave her child with a complete stranger. "I know you don't know me but I promise you can trust me."
"Trust is earned, not given" Claire told her. "Especially when it comes to my little girl so I'm just gonna say this once" Claire said moving closer to the nanny. "I don't care if my mom is a cop, you hurt my baby girl or if she gets hurt under your watch, you will regret it. I promise."
"I believe you" Sarah said honestly. Claire smirked.
"I'm here now, you're no longer needed" Claire said walking towards her room, gravitating towards Madelyn. Relief and a sense of peace washes over we as she rests her eyes on her little girl.

Dear Diary,
Today was my first day back at school. I never thought I would hate being at school any more than I did, I was wrong. The entire day I yearned for Madelyn. I was worried sick something would happen and I wouldn't be there for her. Mom had me leave her with a nanny, Sarah. I don't know much about her but my mom trusts her.
My beautiful girl is growing so much. She's getting more hair and she's putting on more weight, which is good. How is it possible to love something so small so much? I don't understand it and I don't think I ever will but that's ok.
I know Madelyn is going to grow up a beautiful and strong woman. I'll make sure of it. I'll do anything for her. She's my everything.
