*Chapter Forty Five*

"And you must be Claire" Klaus's sister, Rebekah, states standing in front of her brother's mate. "I guess my brother really wasn't lying, you are pretty." She said but it didn't seem like a complement. The way Rebekah was looking at her was as if she was sizing her up, evaluating her. Claire didn't shudder nor cower under her stare, she just mirrored it.

"Careful, Rebekah" Klaus warns not liking the look nor the tone his sister was giving Claire. He wraps an arm around the front of her shoulders pulling her back to his chest. He head moves beside hers, leaning into her lightly.

Rebekah didn't believe Klaus when he said he found his mate. It was hard to believe because she's seen mates interact before they were like magnets, where one moved the other followed. If they were truly mates, then how was Klaus in Chicago and Claire in Mystic Falls?

But now that she's up close, she can sense Elijah's mark. It was screaming at her, trying to keep her away. It she wasn't a thousand years old, she wouldn't be able to withstand it. She felt happy for her brothers yet she still didn't know the girl, she didn't trust easily when it came to women and her brothers. Just because she bares Elijah's mark, doesn't mean she has to be nice.

"He killed him" They could hear Matt from the other side of the gym.

"He's not dead" Elena shook her head, pacing as she tries to think of a way through this situation. "Klaus's blood will turn him into a vampire." Elena explained to him.

"And if Bonnie's successful, he'll live through his transition." Klaus said walking closer to then. His arm unwrapped from Claire but hastily gripped her hand. She smiles and allows him to pull her closer to the others. Rebekah follows them. "Go on, then. Go and fetch your grimoires and enchantments and what-not. I'll hold onto Elena for safe keeping." Klaus crowds towards Elena, with Rebekah on the other side of the doppelganger.

Claire can't help but to feel territorial. She had no reason to be jealous, Klaus would never leave her but she was territorial. Just like how the Mikaelson brothers wanted everyone to know she was theirs, she wanted everyone to know that they were hers.

She wanted Klaus to herself and right now, he was far too close to Elena for her liking. While his hand holds his mates hand, his chest is brushing up against Elena's shoulder. His lips whispering in her ear. While he was threatening Elena and her friends, she knew he could threaten just as successfully from a distance.

"So this is the latest doppelganger" Rebekah said. Elena jumped slightly at the closeness. "The original one was much prettier" She snarks.

"Enough, Rebekah. Take the wolf boy elsewhere, would you?" Rebekah glances at her brother and then to his mate. She saw the upset look on Claire face and instantly knew the reasoning. She smirks at her brother before grabbing Tyler and dragging him away.

"Just ignore her. Petty little thing." Klaus whispers in her ear. Claire rips her hand from his and walks towards the bleachers. The sudden loss of contact alarms Klaus. He instantly follows Claire. "Sweetheart" He mutters engulfing her in his arms before she could sit down. She doesn't respond. His head instantly goes into her neck, nuzzling as close to her as possible.

If Elena was smart, she would have escaped during this moment. Klaus's complete attention is on his mate, the entire world around him disappeared. Elena could have left, she could have ran off and he wouldn't have noticed nor would he have cared. He would have cared after he cheered his mate up and got her smiling again but at the moment, he didn't give a damn about the doppelganger.

"Talk to me" He begs in her ear, rubbing his head against hers.

"I don't like it when you're that close to another girl." Claire told him. He grins instantly, his teeth nibbling at her ear. She fights desperately to not give into him but it was inevitable.

"I like it when you're jealous" He whispers to her. She spins in his arms and shoves him away from her. He looks at her wounded but she looks at him angrily. She shoves her pointer finger on his chest.

"I'm not jealous" She snapped. "As if I had anything to be jealous of" She said knowing Elena was no competition. "I'm territorial just like you and your brothers are. You wouldn't like it if I went up to some guy who wasn't my mate and started whispering in his ear, would you?" She asked tilting her head. "Let's see how you like it" She snipped and started towards Chad.

He instantly sees her point and growls. He flashes in front of her, preventing her from getting any closer to the boy. She gives him an I-told-you-so look knowing she's made her point.

"Don't do it again." She snipped.

"You have my word" Klaus promises. "As long as you don't do it either." He said. She smiles satisfied before her hand clutches a handful of his shirt. He smirks as she pulls him back to her.

"I promise" She whispers before kissing him. He instantly speeds her to the bleachers. He takes a seat and she straddles his waist.

"I want to eat you up" He moans against her lips. Her eyes practically roll to the back of her head. She never thought she'd feel such pleasure from words alone. Before they could get even more lost in their own little world, which was very much possible, the doors to the gym opened. Klaus didn't have to look to know who it was and he growled, his hands tightening on Claire.

"Relax" Claire whispers, her lips going to his ear. He forces himself to listen to her, he loosens his grip.

"Stefan" Elena whispers standing from her position by Chad and Dana. Stefan glances at Elena and then to Claire and Klaus.

"Stay by my side" Klaus whispers to her. Their eyes pour into each others. Klaus didn't doubt his ability to protect Claire, it would just be easier if she stayed by him. He didn't trust Stefan, not anymore, not that he ever has or will trust anybody, besides his brothers, with Claire.

"Klaus" Stefan calls out.

"Always and forever" Claire whispers her response. The corner of his lip lifted ever so slightly. He pecks her lips before responding to Stefan.

"Come to save your damsel, mate?" Klaus questions, his eyes reluctantly leaving Claire and going to the vampire he traveled with all summer. Claire climbs off his lap, much to both of their disappointments.

Stefan could instantly see a difference in Klaus. All summer, Klaus was on the edge. He killed unnecessarily, ruthlessly and in an unhinged fashion. His temper was through the roof the entire time. There was hardly a moment of peace around him.

Now, he seemed almost... normal. His posture was more relaxed. The wildness in his eyes tamed, to a degree. He wasn't acting impulsively anymore. His actions were more calculating and each one had a meaning behind it. He seemed, all in all, happier than he has the last few months.

Stefan knew instantly that it's because of Claire. He hoped that with Klaus and Claire together now, the hybrid would be more reasonable.

"I came to ask for your forgiveness" Stefan said. His eyes trained on Klaus. "And pledge my loyalty." Stefan continues to inch closer to them. Klaus growls in warning while his arm crosses Claire's lap, his hand tucking under her thigh, pulling her closer possessively. Stefan gets the message and stops his movements.

"Well, you broke that pledge once already." Klaus tells him not longer trusting his word.

"Elena means nothing to me anymore. And whatever you ask of me... I will do." Stefan promises. Klaus looks at him, his eyes narrowed slightly.

"Fair enough. Let's drink on it." He said standing up. He pulls Claire along, the two of them walking to Dana, Chad and Elena. "Kill them" He said pointing to Chad and Dana. Claire looks at Klaus.

"Klaus" Claire whispers. He didn't need to look at her to know what she was thinking, knowing she didn't want him to do it. She wouldn't stop him for going after those who either deserved it or those who were necessary, Chad and Dana were neither. The only reason Klaus wanted them dead was to prove that he's in control, to prove that Stefan didn't have a choice.

"What are you waiting for? Kill them." Klaus said knowing Stefan wouldn't do it. Claire grips him tightly, as if warning him.

"No! Stefan, don't!" Elena begs.

"Trust me, sweetheart" Klaus mutters for her ears alone.

"He's not going to hurt me. He already said-" Before she could finish, Klaus back hands her so hard she tumbles to the floor. He sense Stefan racing towards him which means he's racing towards Claire and that was unacceptable.

"She means nothing to you?" He growled angrily. He claps his hand around Stefan's throat, immobilizing him. His other hand was keeping Claire behind him, in case some miracle happened and Stefan broke his hold. "Your lies just keep piling up" His grip tightens. He feels the urge to rip his heart out for coming at him, at Claire. Klaus knew Stefan wasn't aiming to harm her, which was one of the reasons the younger vampire was still alive. The other reason was because he had plans for his old friend.

"Let her go!" Stefan demanded. "I'll do whatever you want, you have my word!"

"Your word doesn't mean much. I lived by your word all summer, during which time I never had to resort to this.." Klaus looks deep into his eyes. "Stop fighting." He compels.

"Don't do this, don't do this." Stefan pleads.

"I didn't want to. All I wanted was your allegiance. Now I'm going to have to take it." Klaus growls. Claire's hands clench the back of his shirt. Only she wasn't gripping him our of fear.

"Don't" Stefan continues to beg.

"You will do exactly as I say when I say it. You will not run, you will not hide, you will simply just obey." Klaus compels before releasing him. Stefan stands in front, no longer fighting, ready to follow orders. "Now, was that so hard?" He smirks before turning to Chad and Dana. "You will forget any of this happened, the last thing you remember is attending the senior prank but you got caught and were sent home, which is where you're going now. Have a nice night." He compels Dana and then Chad.

"Thank you" Claire whispers.

"My Queen gets what my Queen wants." He whispers before kissing her. She smiles widely into the kiss.

"Klaus, there's something I need to tell you." Claire whispers pulling away from him. He tilts his head in curiosity. His knuckles graze against the skin on her cheek gently.

"What is it, sweetheart?" He mutters. She smiles at him brightly knowing he was going to be ecstatic when she told him.

"It's about Henrik" Klaus tenses at the name. He clearly remembers Elijah tell him that she could see his little brother from the Other Side. That she was working tirelessly to bring him back.

"What about him, love?" He asks slowly.

"Where is it?! Where's my necklace!?" Claire looks away from Klaus as Caroline comes barging into the gym.

"What are you talking about?" Klaus groans out in annoyance.

"She has my necklace" Rebekah snapped. Klaus gently pulls Claire to his sister. "Look" She hands him the phone.

"Is that my sisters?" Claire asked. Rebekah looks at her. She instantly notices the resemblance between her and the girl who owned the phone. "What did you do to her?" She asked trying not to sound accusing but feeling her protective side slipping.

"Oh, don't worry little girl, I didn't hurt her." Rebekah patronized. Klaus growls giving Rebekah another warning. His sister rolls her eyes.

"Well, well... more lies" Klaus grumbles looking at Stefan.

"Where. Is. It?" Rebekah questioned slowly looking at Elena.

"I don't have it anymore."

"You're lying!" Rebekah shouted racing towards Elena. The original latched her fangs on the doppelganger for only a few moments before Klaus rips Rebekah off. Elena falls to the ground, holding her neck.

"Knock it off!" Klaus snapped feeling his patience with her wearing thin.

"Make her tell me where it is, Nik" Rebekah shouted but there was a pleading tone in her voice. Klaus takes a calming breath and slowly turns to Elena, kneeling in front of her.

"Where's the necklace, sweetheart? Be honest" Klaus encourages. Claire shifts on her feet. She figured out that Klaus enjoyed his little names when talking to people, she simply wished some were reserved for her and her alone. She liked feeling special.

"I'm telling the truth" Elena whimpered feeling no positive effects from Klaus calling her 'sweetheart'. "Katherine stole it." Claire rolls her eyes at the name.

"Katerina" The name rolls off his tongue as he remembers the doppelganger that betrayed him and ran for centuries on end. "Of course, well, that's unfortunate. If we had the necklace it would make things a whole lot easier for your witch" He stands up. "But since we're doing this the hard way, let's put a clock on it, shall we?" He walks across the gym and turns on the 20 minute game clock. "20 minutes. If Bonnie hasn't found a solution by then, I want you to feed again." Klaus said walking up to Stefan this time. "Only this time, I want you to feed on Elena. You know you want to." Klaus smirks.

"No, Klaus! Don't do this to him!" Elena begs. "Claire, please, we were friends, help us." Elena begs. Klaus pauses and watches Claire curiously. Claire smiles at Elena and kneels in front of her.

"And where were you when I needed help getting Elijah?" Claire wonders tilting her head. Elena's shoulders fall in defeat knowing Claire wouldn't help. Klaus smirks as Claire stands and returns to his side, grabbing his awaiting hand.

"No one leaves. If she tries to run, fracture her spine." Klaus says leaving the gym, holding onto Claire with Rebekah in tow. "Rebekah go watch the werewolf." His sister rolls her eyes but does as told, not without some grumbling and complaints.

"She's not going to hurt Caroline, is she?" Claire asks nervously.

"A good girl fight never hurt anyone." Klaus smirks. Claire gives him a look. "Caroline will be fine." He reassures her. He smiles and kisses her forehead. "Now, what is this business with my brother, Henrik?"

"I brought him back." She said. He takes a step away form her, shock taking over his body. "Do you remember that day when you felt weak all the sudden? And you knew it had to be me? And you left me a million voice mails and texts."

"You were bringing back Henrik" He realizes. Claire smiles and nods.

"Elijah's been helping him readjust the last few days. I help where I can but I try and give them some time to catch up." Claire explains to him. "He's always asking about you. Apparently you two were pretty close when you were human." He smiles as he thinks back on fond memories.

"He was always with me or Rebekah." Klaus tells her. "He was never close with our mother. Finn was the only one who was really close with her. Rebekah looked after him and I took him under my wing, sorta speak." He explains.

"He still idolizes you" Claire says. Klaus frowns as he thinks about everything he's done. He holds much guilt, he hasn't done many things that he is proud of. "He watched you from the Other Side" Claire explains. "He's seen everything, Klaus, and he still loves you, he still looks up to you. What you've done... it doesn't matter to him."

"I cannot thank you enough, sweetheart, for bringing him back." Klaus says. Claire smiles and hugs him tightly.

"I didn't just bring him back for you guys" Claire whispers. Klaus smile and kisses the top fo her head.

"I know, love"
