*Chapter Five*
"I can't stand him, Bonnie, and I've only met him once" Claire said rolling her eyes.
"Well, he wasn't the greatest at dinner last night either" Bonnie commented, the two of them talking about Damon Salvatore.
"He's no good, especially with Caroline" Claire grumbled walking with her to the locker room so Bonnie could get ready for the football game.
"Have you talked to her" Bonnie asked.
"No" Claire muttered sheepishly. Bonnie smiled shaking her head. "I probably should, shouldn't I?" Claire asked looking at Bonnie. Her best friend nodded causing Claire to sigh. "Can I do it tomorrow? I don't wanna tonight."
"The sooner you get over this, the better. Be the bigger person. Yeah she yelled at you but it really wasn't that bad" Bonnie told her.
"She's the older sister, she's the taller sister, why should I be the bigger person? Can't I be the annoying little sister that doesn't do anything?" Claire whined. Bonnie gave her a look. "Fine, I'll talk to her."
"Good, cause I don't like it when you two aren't talking."
"No one does" Elena said joining the two of them. "Caroline is always nicer when you're around." She added.
"She's not that bad" Claire defended. Claire knew Caroline's personality could get too much sometimes but Claire didn't see that as a bad thing, though she is a little bias. "I just wish she would get away from Damon... God, I am not looking forward to going home tonight. Mom's going to be there, Damon probably will as well."
"You know, you could always spend the night at my place." Bonnie suggested. "Have that sleep over we were talking about."
"That's not a bad idea" Claire thought about it. "Shelia wouldn't mind?" She asked.
"Of course not, she's been asking for you." Bonnie told her. Claire grinned and nodded.
"Awesome, looks like we have a slumber party." Claire said grinning before her and Elena left Bonnie to get ready for the football game.
"So, you and Stefan all good?" She asked looking at him.
"Yeah, we're good" Elena said smiling.
"Good, I'm glad. You deserve to be happy." Claire said wrapping an arm around her waist, giving her a side hug.
"So do you" Elena pointed out.
"I will be when these little monsters come" Claire said smiling at her stomach.
"Bonnie said you're thinking about finding out the gender."She said.
"I think I am" Claire said nodding as she dropped her arm. "I have an appointment on Saturday."
"Excited?" Elena asked and Claire nodded enthusiastically.
"There's lover boy" Claire said nodding over to Stefan. Elena instantly smiles, the two of them saying goodbye to each other. Claire walked around through all the tailgaters and talked to some people she knew. Once it got closer to the game the coach to the football team started talking gaining everyone's attention.
"Let's be honest here. In the past, we used to let other teams come into our town and roll right over us" He stated. The crowd, including Claire, boos. "But that is about to change" He smirks. Everyone cheers. "We've got some great new talent tonight starting on the offense, and I'm gonna tell you right now, it has been a long time since I have seen a kid like this with hands like these. Let's give it up for Stefan Salvatore!"
Claire smiles brightly and cheers with the rest of the crowd for Stefan. She hadn't seen Stefan play but from what she's heard, he's very good. She stands by Elena as the coach continues to talk.
"Something's wrong" Elena muttered turning around. Claire snaps out of it and looks at Elena. Claire frowns her eyebrows and goes to ask but Elena's already walking. Claire instantly follows. Soon, she hears Vicki's voice.
"Tyler! Stop it! Tyler!" She screams. Stefan grabs Tyler's arm ripping him off of Jeremy.
"Jeremy, no!" Elena shouts racing forward as Jeremy swipes the broke bottle at Tyler but Stefan moves the football player to the side getting his hands cut in the process.
"Tyler, knock it off! Stop!" Matt snapped shoving Tyler away from everybody.
"What the hell, Jeremy? Put your head up, you're bleeding" Elena said worriedly.
"I'm fine!" Jeremy snapped.
"Yeah, you smell fine" Elena snips back.
"Just stop, ok?"Jeremy growled before wondering off.
"Jeremy" Claire said following Elena's little brother. "Jer!" Jeremy ignores her and continues to walk away. "Hey, Bigfoot! I'm talking to you" Jeremy, even in his angered drunken state, stops at the sound of the nickname Claire had given him. His mind flashes back to the moment she gave it to him.
"How the hell are your feet so big?" Claire complained trying to push his knees to his chest. The two of them had grown very bored. They were putting together the crib her father had bought online and had sent to her house but they had abandoned the project. Now, it laid not even half finished off to the side.
Currently, the two of them were laying on the floor, their feet in the air pressing against each other. Claire knew Jeremy could easily win this little match but he was amusing her by letting her push with all her might.
"Maybe because I'm normal size and you're just a little elf." Jeremy teased. Claire huffed.
"It's not my fault you're descended from Bigfoot or something." Claire grumbled pushing against his feet but got nowhere.
"What?" Jeremy tried to snap at her, not wanting to talk to anybody but it came out tired and soft. Claire smirked knowing that no matter what she did or what Jeremy did, he could never get mad at her or take his anger out on her. She wrote it off to her cute baby face and small stature.
She didn't answer him. Simply took his face in her hands and examined his nose. She didn't have a lot of experience in the medical field but she knew the difference between a regular nose and a broken one.
"Well, you're nose is still perfect." She said. "A little swollen, might wanna put some ice on it" She said dropping her hands. He gave her a small smile. "You know Elena is just trying to be a good sister." He instantly rolls his eyes.
"She's trying to be a mother." He corrected her. Claire nodded in agreement. She had noticed that. Elena had suddenly started acting more like a mother than a sister when it came to Jeremy.
"I'll talk to her about it" Claire said. "There's only room for one mother in this group." She pointed out rubbing her stomach. Jeremy smiled and glanced at her stomach.
"At least you're not a penguin yet" He told her. She punched his arm lightly. She knew she'd be waddling instead of walking in no time.
"Try not to get into anymore trouble, will ya?" She asked him. "For me?" Jeremy sighed dramatically making her smile.
"I'll be a good boy, mom" He said sarcastically. She smiled pulling him into a tight hug when she saw some pain in his eyes. Despite behind a head taller than her, like pretty much every male in existence, he curled into her arms. Even though she wasn't a mother yet, she had the embrace of one. The type of comforting embrace, the one where you knew nothing would happen to you with her around. "Thank you" He whispered to her.
"Any time" She whispered back. "I'll see you later, alright?" She said pulling away. Jeremy smiled and nodded before walking away from her.
"Somebody help!" Claire hears Matt's frantic voice from a distance. She begins to go over with a group of people to see Tanner, the coach, on the ground not moving. She gasps covering her mouth, her eyes glued on his body knowing he was dead.
"Bonnie?" Claire asked walking closer to her. She saw the tears in her eyes and the scared look on her face. "Bonnie" She said walking in front of her. Bonnie doesn't say anything, just hugs her. Claire, not knowing if it was Tanner's body that scared her or something else, hugged her back tightly. "Why don't we get you home?" She suggested. Bonnie nodded letting Claire lead her to the car.
Claire drove the two of them to Shelia's house. When they arrived, she turned the car off and they sat there for a few moments. They were still shaken up from the events that happened at the school.
"8, 14, 22" Bonnie whispered. Claire looked at her confused. Bonnie repeats the numbers.
"What do they mean, Bon?"
"I've been seeing those numbers in my head, thinking about them" She muttered. Claire didn't say anything, still not understanding. "Building 8, 14 on the license plate, 22 on the concrete."
"Bonnie, what are you talking about?" Claire asked.
"Those numbers... They were around... the body" Bonnie muttered. "It's like something was trying to tell me that it was going to happen."
"Are you saying that you somehow predicted this?" Claire asked.
"I don't know" Bonnie whispered. Claire knew about Shelia telling Bonnie about witches and how Bonnie was somehow predicting things.
"Why don't we go inside, it's been a long day" She suggested. Bonnie nodded silently and climbed out the car. Claire followed her inside. The two of them went into her room, Shelia having already gone to bed. "I've been thinking of baby names" Claire said as the two of them sat on Bonnie's bed each in a pair of pajamas.
"Really?" Bonnie asked looking at her. Claire was hoping to take her mind off the whole number thing and figured baby talk would do it. "Any favorites?"
"There's so many, it's so hard to choose" Claire whined. Bonnie smiled a little.
"Let me hear some." Bonnie said shifting in her seat.
"Umm, well there's Madelyn, Gemma, Rosemarie, Lucy to name a few for the girls. If it's a boy probably Carson, Aaron, Brayden, Austin" She listed.
"I like those names." Bonnie nodded.
"I love them, it's so hard to choose. Especially since I keep changing my mind on which ones are my top choices" Claire grumbled.
"Well with the ones you told me, I like Madelyn or Lucy and Carson or Brayden." Bonnie said. Claire nodded slowly, taking her opinion into consideration. However, despite talking about baby names, she noticed Bonnie was still thinking about what had happened tonight.
"Wanna talk about it?" Claire asked softly. Bonnie sighed.
"I don't know what's wrong with me" She muttered.
"Bonnie, nothing is wrong with you." Claire said. Bonnie gave her a look.
"Something is obviously going on, Claire." Bonnie told her.
"But that doesn't mean there is something wrong with you." Claire stressed. "You're still Bonnie. You're still the girl that dressed up as Clyde while I dressed up as Bonnie for Halloween last year. You're still the girl that helped Caroline pass English freshman year. You're still the same kind, amazing and lovably Bonnie I know. So what you can predict the future. Who knows, maybe next time you'll predict the lottery." She said smiling teasingly.
"Who knows?" Bonnie shrugged smiling.
"If you do, let me know, God knows I'll need the money for diapers and stuff." Claire grumbled.
"Are you ever going to tell people who the father is?" Bonnie asked suddenly. Claire tensed slightly.
"I talked to him. He's made it explicitly clear he wants nothing to do with these kids. He doesn't even believe that they're his." Claire whispered fumbling with her fingers.
"And you're positive that they are his?" Bonnie asked. Claire nodded looking at her lap.
"He said that I was a slut who slept around, that the father could be one out of any ten guys. He said that he has a reputation to think about, a future and he doesn't need me ruining it. I told him that I wouldn't tell anybody. I'd hate to embarrass him" She spat. She felt a mixture of emotions in her chest; anger, heartbreak, fear and loneliness.
Bonnie frowned and shifted closer to Claire holding her. The pregnant girl didn't even know she was crying until Bonnie hugged her. Claire cursed her hormones again hating how easy it was for her to start crying.
"I'm scared, Bonnie" Claire whispers to her. "What if I can't provide for them? What if I fail them? What if I'm not a good mother?"
"Hey" Bonnie whispers quietly. "You're not alone in this" Bonnie told her sternly. "We all support you. You are going to be able to provide for them. I know you're job isn't the most well paid job but it'll work out. You won't fail them because you love them too much to fail them. The only way you could fail them is if you didn't care and you gave up on them, you're not gonna do that. And you're gonna be a great mother. Maybe not at first but you'll learn. You'll find out what works and what doesn't. You'll figure out how to do this. It's going to be ok, Claire. You're going to be just fine."

Dear Diary,
Claire looks at the blank piece of paper. Bonnie sleeps on the bed beside her. It was well past two in the morning. The two of them had watched movies and gossiped all night both of them forgetting about their fears for a few hours.
I honestly don't even know what to say... There's been a death. The coach for the football team was murdered right before the game tonight. They're saying it's an animal attack. Some say it's the same type of animal that attacked Vicki. This is Mystic Falls, nothing ever happens and yet people are starting to get attacked, starting to die.
Bonnie is really shaken up over it. She says she kind of predicted it. She didn't know what was happening but she had hints on where it was going to happen. She's scared that somethings wrong with her but she's still Bonnie, she's still my best friend. I wish I could comfort her but I honestly just don't know what to say.
She's not the only one that's scared. I talked to Bonnie about my fears about having these kids. She comforted me but I'm still terrified. I love these kids so much and I feel terrified that I'm going to fail them. I'd do anything for them but I'm afraid it won't be enough.
