Lee Minho experienced a sharp and constant pain in his head as if thousands of needles were piercing it mercilessly. The buzzing of voices in his mind was deafening. He felt overwhelmed and unable to process his memories.
Suddenly, a soft and rhythmic sound began to hit his ears, which increased in intensity until it became a familiar voice.
"Why are you sad, smiley boy?"
As soon as his ears caught that phrase, his mind immediately recognized Han Jisung. He tried to open his eyes despairingly but felt a dense darkness enveloped him. It was as if he was trapped in his own body, unable to move or speak. However, he felt in an incredibly soft place, floating on a cloud.
The voices in his mind mingled again until he finally heard Jisung's voice again.
"I like you."
Those words echoed inside him, flooding him with emotions he had experienced the first time he had heard him say that.
"I love you."
He felt that everything was part of his memories and wondered when he would be with him again.
Suddenly, he felt a hand on his cheek, caressing it gently, and experienced a feeling of inner peace. When that hand moved away, he felt a sharp pain in his chest. However, it quickly dissipated.
But soon, he felt that something wasn't right, something was missing. His heart was not beating.
Lee Minho was no longer alive.
But he was with Han Jisung.
He opened his eyes, seeing that everything was blurry at first, but gradually, his vision cleared. A figure appeared in front of him, watching him closely. It was Jisung, that boy he hadn't seen in a long time. He felt the urge to get up and run to hug him, but the dizziness kept him in place. It was then that the younger one approached and helped him sit up. Minho couldn't believe what was happening. Was this a strange dream after his death?
"It's been a while, Min," Jisung said as they sat on the bed, staring at each other.
"Sunggie?" He was puzzled and didn't understand what was going on.
Besides, the room was unknown to Minho, which scared him even more. He slowly got up and looked at Jisung, waiting for an explanation of what was going on.
"It's completely normal for you to feel bad after coming here," he said, smiling reassuringly. "Leaving your body and coming here is very exhausting."
Minho swallowed and rubbed his eyes with his hands. He felt something or someone had thrown him into a completely unknown place.
"Don't worry," Jisung added as he got up and wrapped his arms around his boyfriend. "Welcome to the world of the dead. Nothing bad can happen to you here."
His words resonated in Minho's mind as he hugged his boyfriend tightly, feeling the security and warmth of his embrace. He had gone so long without feeling that sense of protection and that everything was fine. Tears began to fall down his cheeks as he clung to him, unable to contain the emotion and joy of being with Jisung again. Although the younger one also wanted to cry, he avoided it. He knew that Minho was the one who needed it most at that moment.
(...)
It had been a year since Minho arrived at that place, and during that time, he had learned many things that he didn't know. One of them was the existence of a world in charge of lovers. According to what some souls had explained, they gave opportunities to the destined couples, as had happened with Minho and Jisung.
However, he also discovered that bad people didn't go to any world but ceased to exist. That was what Minho wished would happen to Seungmin, the boy who had caused them so much pain and suffering.
In addition, he learned how to see his family and friends through a device that allowed him to observe what they were doing at any time. Sometimes, he came across unpleasant scenes, but generally, he was happy to see that his friends were overcoming his death.
"Let's destroy his room and build a game room there." That was his mother, who was delighted with her son's death.
Frustrated, Minho turned off the device and saw Jisung arrive with a bag of cookies. The vanilla scent made his mouth water, and the excitement made him get up and run to hug him.
"I love you, I love you, I love you!" The younger one exclaimed enthusiastically and kissed his lips. "Oh, right! I brought something to eat!" He passed him the little bag and smiled.
"They look delicious, honey."
They went to the living room of that beautiful house and turned on the device, connecting it to the TV. That day would be the last trial of Seungmin, and the court would decide whether he would go to jail or not. The boy had recently turned eighteen, so he no longer had the possibility of going to a juvenile correctional facility.
Jisung and Minho sat on the comfortable sofa and held hands. As the trial progressed, the sounds of the lawyers' voices and the testimonies filled the room.
Seungmin attitude annoyed them, but they tried not to take too much notice. The man who advocated for Han Jisung stood up, moving confidently around the courtroom, and began to call several people.
The accusations began to be very serious, revealing a dark side of Seungmin that surprised everyone. Rapes, harassment, attempts to bribe the police, murders of more than three people and many more things made everyone's mind, especially Minho and Jisung's, filled with horror and astonishment. They knew Seungmin was hurting people but never thought he had more people.
Undoubtedly, the new accusations gave an extraordinary twist to the case. The judge refused to accept the words of Kim's lawyer and announced that they would answer what would happen to Seungmin in the incoming trial, which would take place within an hour.
The eyes of the couple met in an instant, and on their faces, a smile drew.
(...)
After the judge handed down the sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, Seungmin broke the silence with a maniacal laugh that echoed in the courtroom. His bloodshot eyes pierced every person present, enjoying the shock his sick laugh caused.
He had lost his sanity.
Meanwhile, Seungmin's uncles and parents tried desperately to convince the judge of the boy's innocence, with tears in their eyes. But all the evidence was against him, and there was no way that Seungmin could escape his fate.
Jisung's mother, on the other hand, watched the scene from afar with a small smile of satisfaction. Finally, there was justice for her son, and she wished that, wherever he was, he felt happy next to Minho.
Minho and Jisung hugged and kissed joyously. Seungmin would be punished for his crimes finally. From that moment, they knew they would live in peace. Well, they wouldn't live because they had already passed away.
But they felt an ineffable well-being, which they had always desired.
Jisung was happy, away from his terrible classmates and the loneliness he felt for so long. Meanwhile, Minho could finally be at peace, away from his toxic parents and cousin. He always wanted it, and being with Jisung improved everything extraordinarily. They could feel the happiness growing in their hearts, knowing they had finally found the tranquillity they had sought for so long.
They didn't regret that Minho had received the letter by accident because that started a whole love story, a love story that they would never forget.
