Happy Birthday (angst w/h/e) -ineffable husbands-
A/N: TODAY IS THE FIRST BIRTHDAY OF THIS COLLECTION!! ALSO THE 100TH CHAPTER!!! YAY!!! I DECIDED TO GO WITH SOME CLASSIC ANGST BUT IT'LL BE ALRIGHT!
Crowley sat alone. "Happy birthday, dear me, happy birthday-" he sang. It fell to just him normally speaking "Oh hells... I wasn't born. I was created. Created from love, but what's the point anymore? I'm just a demon. A lonely, pathetic demon."
He laid his head down on the table.
"Happy creation day, Crowley," he muttered to himself. He closed his eyes to hold back tears. The moment he opened them, large, wet tears trailed down his cheeks. He wiped them away. He looked at the birthday cake in front of him. There was a candle on it.
"I wish for Aziraphale back."
Demon's birthday wishes aren't like humans. Their wishes come true, but at a cost. Crowley was willing to pay the price, whatever it may be.
A few hours later, Crowley and Aziraphale were sitting in the bookshop together, enjoying a nice glass of champagne and birthday cake.
"What a lovely cake!" Aziraphale gushed. He took another bite.
Crowley nodded and said, "It's lovely watching you eat it. I missed you."
Aziraphale leaned forward. He fluttered his eyes. "You did?"
He left his lips parted.
"I did," Crowley hummed. He leaned towards Aziraphale. Their lips met. This is exactly what Crowley wanted.
Crowley pulled away. "I love you."
"I love you too, Crowley," Aziraphale said. He placed his hands in his lap.
"What now?" he asked. He looked at Crowley. His eyes looked soft and innocent.
"Whatever you want to do, angel."
"We could... Make love."
Crowley blushed. "Sure, angel."
Aziraphale moved a hand to grab Crowley's. "We best be going then."
The two of them then walked to the backroom.
After their lovely alone time alone, they cuddled. Crowley loved how Aziraphale's skin felt against his. The angel was warm. Most things that were warm weren't very good. The angel was like a ball of sunshine though. He loved it.
It was exactly what he wanted.
But all good things come to an end, just like Crowley's birthday.
With Crowley's birthday at an end, Aziraphale disappeared.
"Angel?"
Crowley sat up. His angel wasn't there anymore. He sighed sadly. Then he laid back down.
"Goodbye, angel."
Aziraphale had been gone the whole time though. He had been dead for a year.
The next day Crowley went to Aziraphale's grave. He sat down by the headstone. His cheek rested on the cool marble.
"Hey, Angel."
He tapped the ground.
"I miss you, and I'm so sorry."
There was nothing replied.
"I know I can't bring you back. No matter what I do, I'm forever going to be lonely. Without you I just don't know what I am."
He clenched his fists. "There's so many things I wanted to say to you, but couldn't. I wanted to tell you I love you. I kept my mouth shut until it was too late thought. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I just want you back."
He opened his palms again. He wished someone would grab his hand. Anyone.
"Please. Why am I tested like this? I can't do this alone."
In front of him stood a woman. "Crowley, you're not alone."
Crowley squinted his eyes. "God?"
"It's me, my child," She said as She approached him.
Crowley pulled his legs in towards his chest. "I'm not your child anymore. I'm fallen."
"No, you've always been mine."
"Not since you stopped loving me. You disowned me. Now look at me."
She sat down in front of Aziraphale's grave. "Ah... I see why you're upset. Your boyfriend is dead."
Crowley chuckled, "I wish he was my boyfriend."
"You know he loved you too. Neither of you could just say the words."
"Why not?" Crowley asked. He put on his sunglasses and looked up at Her.
"You know that answer to that... Always so curious you are. Asking plenty of questions still. I see."
Crowley huffed, "Can't help it."
"I didn't think you'd be able to. That's why I separated you from those who could."
"That's unfair."
"No, it's not, you did what you did. Was I supposed to keep you around those who were unlike you."
Crowley looked down at Aziraphale's grave. "I wish you did."
God sighed, "Things never would have been the same if you hadn't fell. You saved the world Crowley. You'll save it again."
"The world isn't worth saving without Aziraphale. He saved it with me. I only wanted to do it so I could stay with him longer. Now it's not even worth it."
God sighed, "I see. You really did love him. I'll make a deal with you."
"Anything!"
"I'll bring him back-"
"Cool! Go ahead!"
She pressed a finger to Crowley's lips. "But you can never ask another question, and you always will have to tell him how you feel."
"And if I ask a question?"
"You just won't be able to."
"What about things like what time is it or where do you want to go eat dinner?"
God thought for a moment. "Get creative with those. Good luck. Oh... And happy birthday."
She then disappeared. A few seconds later Aziraphale appeared where She once stood.
"Crowley!" the angel exclaimed. His eyes lit up.
"It's me, angel!" Crowley shouted. He ran over to him and hugged him. "It's me!"
Aziraphale giggled and said, "I never took you to be much of a hugger."
"Well I am now... Oh I'm just so glad to have you back."
Aziraphale smiled and leaned into the hug. "I'm glad to be back."
"Hey angel... I'm sorry about the incident with fire. I tried to save you. I really did try to. I made sure I sent every last demon who hurt you straight back to Hell."
"It's alright now."
"There's something else I've got to say."
Aziraphale asked, "What is it?"
Crowley swallowed his nerves. "I know demons aren't supposed to be lovers but... But I love you. I love you more than the world itself. I know this is too fast, but I just had to say it."
Aziraphale cupped Crowley's cheek. "Silly demon, I love you too."
The two then kissed.
