Ineffable | Twenty-Three

BOOM!!

When the smoke bomb exploded, everyone from The Golden Cats immediately covered their face with their hood, and grabbed the hidden weapons in the room, before they ran out of the lounge.

Yuu was no exception. He pulled up his jacket's hood and took a gun from under the couch, and ran out, muttering a good luck as he walked past his friends. He went through the halls, walking upstairs to find a place to hide.

He wasn't exactly surprised. He knew this would happen, someone would eventually lash out and attack. What he didn't expect was a murder. He never want Koushi, or anyone else, to die.

"Noya!"

'Shit,' Yuu cussed mentally, as he heard Asahi's voice, 'Why the hell did he follow me?!'

The thing is, even if he tried, he won't be able to outrun Asahi. He's not strong enough. The building was a large one, and everyone was assigned with their own way out. His was just a few rooms away, a tunnel from inside one of the lockers inside the changing room.

But somehow, Yuu felt like he couldn't walk any longer.

The man took a deep breath, as he leaned on one of the walls. He rummaged through his pockets, pulling out a few smoke bombs, and threw them all to random directions, hoping they could buy him some time.

Yuu coughed slightly. Now, why did he do that? It's suicide. What a stupid action.

He shook his head, trying to forget the thought, and focus on his breathing. He didn't want to suffocate just yet, he wanted to make sure Asahi had left first.

"Nishinoya? I know you're here. I can hear your raspy breaths."

'Fuck. What did I ever do to deserve this?'

Just then, a large figure appeared in front of him, holding a gun as well.

"Found you, Noya."

Yuu took a step aside out of shock. He soon regained his composure, and raised his gun. "You haven't win yet, Officer."

"I don't care about that, Noya. But we have to get out of this place."

"Like hell I'm going with you, Asahi-san."

"Noya... I'm not your enemy here..."

"But your friend killed mine!" Yuu yelled, getting angry, "Just to remind you: you Crows started this. You shot Koushi and that's what makes Kenma-san angry. He declared war because of that."

"And you followed his orders mindlessly?"

Yuu shook his head, and gritted his teeth, "I'm not," he growled, "I am their friend, their ally. This place is my home, my everything."

"I'm just doing my job, Noya. Please, give up now, I don't want to use force."

Yuu glared, as he raised his hand up to cover his cough. The look on Asahi's face changed drastically.

"I don't care anymore. You need to get out of here," he went to grab Yuu's wrist, but he swiftly pulled away and clicked his tongue.

"I'm not leaving this place, Asahi-san."

"Why did you even stay with them?! They're criminals, and I know you're a good person!"

"You know nothing about them!" Another coughs, "The Golden Cats is where I belong! I'm not going to leave them!" This time, Yuu went into a short coughing fit, as he leaned on the wall for support.

"You'll die, Noya!!"

Yuu froze. Those words again. He used to hear it as whispers inside the hospital halls, but now, as his friend yelled it, he couldn't help but to feel at least a bit hurt.

Yuu chuckled slightly, wiping the drops of blood from the corner of his lips. "You think I don't know that? Lung cancer stadium II. And here I am, a part of a gang, dealing with paints and cold night air everyday, now trapped in a room full of smokes."

He coughed, and looked away, spinning his gun around his finger, "But that's exactly my point. I won't betray them, even if I'm risking my life here. They're the only ones who don't treat me like a breakable porcelain doll. They treat me like a bulletproof glass, stronger than the others."

"Noya... It's for your own good..."

Yuu shook his head and put his gun back into its holster, "They trust me as their guardian deity, I'm in charge of their safety. So," he suddenly took Asahi's gun away, and held it with both hands, pointing at the larger man's head, catching him off guard, "I have to stop you here. Or best, eliminate you."

"Noya, you can't-..."

"Leave, Asahi-san. Now."

"I'm not going to-..."

"DON'T MAKE ME A KILLER!!" Yuu yelled, his fingers ready on the trigger, "LEAVE, NOW!!"

Asahi flinched, before he took a few steps away, and disappeared behind the smokes. Yuu grunted, firing the gun a few times until he heard the footsteps down the stairs. As he ran out of the bullets, he pulled out the rest of his smoke bombs and set them all off, covering his tracks, before he continued to walk further down the hall, limping with one hand on the wall.

Another coughing fit started, and he decided to go into one of the room, as he was getting exhausted. It was a horrible feeling, but he was quite satisfied. Yuu closed the door leaned on it, about to sit down and rest, before he realized where he was. The clinic.

"Like hell I'm letting you see my dead body..." he muttered. He was tired, sleepy, he wanted to take a nap, but he knew that once he did, he won't wake up ever again. He stumbled a few times, but he managed to make his way towards the cupboards at the end of the room.

"Second cabinet from the right... Top, corner..." Yuu stood on his tip toes, reaching inside and tried to find what he needed. He grinned, just a little, as he felt the strap of the gas masks, but soon he frowned as he realized it was stuck onto something.

'I can't pull it out...' Yuu cringed. His breath was turning shorter and shorter, and he haven't managed to take the mask, as he couldn't see what was the problem, 'Fuck my height...'

His knees finally gave up. His head hit the floor, and as Yuu struggled to keep his consciousness, he pulled out his phone and tapped on the recorder app.

"If I died... I wish I'll be the last one today..." he whispered, "Thank you for everything, I don't regret joining at all. I had fun..."

The phone fell.

Kuroo didn't panic or anything. He didn't want this to happen, but of course, it can't be helped. And it was started by one of his men, too.

He was in rage.

"Oi! Kenma, stop!"

Neko continued to run upstairs, and truthfully, Kuroo had a hard time keeping up. Kenma was unbelievably fast, unlike how he was when Kuroo knew him in their childhood.

Well, then again, that was years ago...

A smoke bomb was suddenly thrown, and before Kuroo knew it, he had his vision blocked again, and lost his sight of the Neko.

"You're kidding me..."

Kuroo stopped. The smokes were getting into him, and running through only makes it worse. He stopped to take a rest, but unfortunately, he was faced with another of The Golden Cats members. The stoic, quiet number 3.

"Iwaizumi-san?" Kuroo checked. The man's shoulders visibly slouched, and he nodded slightly.

"Kuroo-san. What a coincidence."

Kuroo only glared, "Now what do you want? Your friend already killed one of my subordinate, are you happy?"

"He's the one who wanted to kill our leader," Hajime replied. He opened his mouth, but before he could say anything, there was the sound of gunshots from the speakers above him. Eight times, to be exact. It somehow sent chills down his spine, and Kuroo couldn't help but to feel at least a bit uneasy.

"Ever since you left, he's been like that. A total wreck in the inside," Hajime stated, "I wouldn't blame you, but you're the only one who could help him. And mark my words; if he die, I won't ever forgive you."

"I know. Oikawa's a mess, too," Kuroo muttered, as he walked past the criminal, trying his best not to freak out.

He didn't hear much gunshots, but he heard yelling, and many more small explosions.

All he want now was to know that Yaku was the last to die today.

Kuroo reached the next floor, and stopped. One of the room had the lights on, unlike the others. He decided to enter, but soon he regretted his action. Neko was indeed there, but the sight was quite unpleasant.

It was a large room, with a table in the middle of the room, papers scattered around. On one side of the wall, there were pictures and files, all data about The White Crows' members. Kuroo noticed how Yaku's name was crossed out on the large names list.

Meanwhile, Kenma was standing on the other side of the room, in front of another wall. It was also filled with pictures, but they were all painted onto it. Cats, above numbers. Two outlines of them, and seven more of silhouettes. Two of the latter were already crossed out, number 6 and 8.

"Ah, Kuro. You're here already," Neko greeted. He was holding a red marker, writing down a set of numbers.

"Were those cats... your members?"

"Yes." Neko pulled down his hood, "Something you want to ask?"

"Those are the tattoos, right? There's only nine cats there, not ten."

Kenma chuckled, and circled the pair of whiskers at the top, the symbol Kuroo recognized as the one from the last graffiti. A small nose between whiskers, 3 on each sides, and a pair of cat ears on the 'NEKO' text above it.

"I wish you were smarter than that, Kuro. Now tell me, just your predictions," he crossed his arms, and tapped the end of the marker onto his arm.

"Whose's next to die now?"
