Ineffable | Twenty-Five
Kenma was quite sure that he won't be able to do anything. It was all bluff. He's done with hurting others. He felt the need to do something good for once, after years of bounty hunting and such.
Kenma let out a small, bitter chuckle. He find it funny how the world was such a small place, friends against each other and forgotten memories were brought up.
"Neko!"
Kenma fastened his pace, running upstairs until he reached the rooftop, where his escape awaited.
Escape. Exactly. He's the one running away now.
"I'm not letting you go this time, Ken!"
Kenma didn't bother to look back as he climbed onto the helicopter's cockpit. He admitted that he truly is a coward, leaving without even telling the rest of the gang members. But he already decided that he's the one who would disappear this time.
Kenma took a deep breath, and began to work, turning on the machines and preparing to take off. The vehicle was actually Aone's, but he kept it for 'aerial photography', another alias for Keiji's and Ryu's work.
It was far from fast, but it sure can fly for long. The building's not that far away from the sea, too. As Kenma predicted, with full speed, he could reach the territorial border in about half an hour, and after that, he's literally free.
The blond frowned. 'How selfish, it's almost laughable. Why would I try so hard to avoid Kuro?'
"What the fuck?!"
Kenma ignored the surprised exclamation, keeping his composure while the helicopter began to hover slightly above the rooftop. It went up and up, higher and higher, ready to set off.
But just before it did, the aircraft shook a bit, while it left the building. It was flying now, but Kenma wasn't alone.
"You're a fucking idiot, Kenma! I won't lose you again!"
Kenma's figure tensed in shock, and he turned his gaze to below him. The sight was unbelievable.
Kuroo was hanging on the landing skids, glaring in anger.
The officer, seeing that he had gained Kenma's attention, growled. "You listen to me now, Kozume! You can't run away! Not after everything was almost sorted out between us!"
Kenma clenched his fists. Sorted out? True, if the truce went well. But this one was just chaos. It's meaningless.
He wanted Kuroo to leave, he wanted to be alone, but it's impossible now. If Kuroo fall, he'll die, and Kenma doesn't want that.
He wanted Kuroo to be unable to chase him, but he wanted Kuroo not to let him go. He couldn't explain it, it's too complicated.
Maybe, to make it simple, one of them should kill each other.

Kuroo gripped the metal bar tightly, glaring at literally everything he could see. Summary? He was completely mad.
He didn't even know what happened, his instinct told him to jump and so he did. Now he's betting his life hanging on a moving aircraft far above the ground, with only his two hands alone.
"Don't ignore me!!" he yelled, "Kenma, I know you can hear me!"
"Now what do you expect me to do, then?! Apologize, or surrender?! You wish!"
Kuroo lifted himself up, one of his hand leaning on the edge of the cabin as he raised his head to take a look at Kenma. The blond was in the cockpit, his back facing him.
And, Kuroo barely noticed, he was shaking.
"I thought we're on good terms already?!"
"Your soldier fucking killed Koushi," Kenma replied, taking off the headphone on his ears, "You think I'll forgive you for that. You promised, Kuroo. You promise you'll be there, you'll be back. And I waited. In the end, you tried to shot me instead. Just how amazing is that?!"
"You're not innocent."
"Then kill me. I dare you."
Kuroo flinched. The words were just unbelievable.
"Now is not the time for jokes."
"I'm serious." With that reply, the aircraft's speed slowed down, until it merely hovered in the air.
Kuroo took the chance to calm his breathing, but not long after, a gloved hand was stretched out towards him.
It was Kenma, crouching in the cabin, holding the edge of it with one hand while offering his other hand, with a gaze that said, 'You might need some help.'
Hesitantly, Kuroo took the offer, and he was pulled up into the cabin. The whole stunt before exhaust him, and it took him a few long seconds until he regained his balance. As soon as he did, the calm disappeared.
"Why the hell did you even try to save me?! What if this freaking helicopter suddenly had technical failures and-..."
"You're overreacting."
"I know! Now I want your explanation!"
"You look tired. I can't just let you fall." Kenma was too relaxed, and frankly, that only made the taller man freak out even more.
"What the hell?!"
"Tetsurou. Stop panicking. I'm a criminal and I can use this to blackmail you."
Kuroo froze. Now that's... true... unfortunately. "Just-... Now what?"
"A few things I haven't told you," Kenma started, "I hate you. You destroyed me. My hope, my dreams, all was gone with your departure. You were the last person I have, beside Koushi," Kuroo will admit a little bit of his jealously there, "And now it all came into this. I'm not giving up. I haven't lost yet."
Kuroo narrowed his eyes, swiftly pulling out his gun, "You're the one unarmed here, Ken."
"Then shoot."
"Really? Is that all you have to say?" Kuroo asked, getting annoyed. Kenma stayed emotionless, waiting as the two of them stood inside the small aircraft.
"It's a dare. Can you pull the trigger? Or are you just as weak as the last time we met?"
"I can't simply just do that, I can't simply kill my target."
All of a sudden, Kenma lunged at Kuroo, pulling out a dagger from who knows where. "If you can't kill me, then I'll kill you!" he shouted, raising the blade. Kuroo barely could avoid it, as he couldn't let go of his gun.
Kenma grabbed his wrists, and twisted it as he tried to stab his old-friend. Kuroo grimaced in pain, trying to push the gun away, but he lacked in power afer all he chaos before.
He panicked, and he finally pulled the trigger.
Kenma smirked at the sound, but the satisfaction was gone as soon as the alarm started beeping furiously. The bullet had hit the control panel, and now the helicopter began to shake.
"Now we're screwed, Ken!!"
"Oh." Kenma only tightened his grip around his knife, his attempt wasn't affected. Kuroo was freaking out even more, and this time his firearm fired more bullets, hitting the inside of the cabin, and above, and wherever else possible.
"Kenma, snap out of it! At this rate, we'll both die!" Kuroo yelled in desperation. The helicopter was now falling, the gravity rapidly pulling it back to the ground.
Kenma smiled innocently and stared right at Kuroo's eyes. "I already told you, one of us will die today." He still had his dagger pointed at him, but Kuroo noticed how one of his hand reached out towards a light brown bag-like object that was tied at the top of the cabin.
"One of us will die tonight." Kenma said once more, "I gave you the chance to choose, but you ignored it."
"Kitten, please..."
"I hate you. And I'm sorry, but I can never kill you. Not with our history," Kenma's fingers dropped his dagger, and swiftly took the gun from Kuroo's hand, pointing it at his head.
"Don't you dare, Kenma, you can't-...!!" Kuroo's sentence were cut off when Kenma released him, and shoved the white pack onto his chest. That was the moment when Kuroo realized what was happening.
It was a parachute, and the two of them were about to fall anytime. Just a little push, and he would be off the aircraft.
"This is it, Kuroo. Game Over."
Kuroo's breath hitched as Kenma pushed him off the cabin. And while he was falling, his mind went blank at the sight in front of him.
Smokes erupted from the helicopter, and Kenma could be seen standing at the edge of the cabin, still with his almost invisible smile. Neko gave him a reassuring nod, as if telling him that everything will be alright.
The aircraft exploded.
Kuroo screamed.
