Ineffable | Seven

Sawamura Daichi never thought he would see any of his friends dying. Well, not exactly dying, but now his co-worker is in hospital after being shot on the leg, and the other one was found pale, limping towards the office where he immediately fall asleep.

It was pissing him off to no end, and not mentioning how everyone panicked instead of doing something worthy. Tanaka was asleep on his desk, Oikawa came almost an hour late, Azumane felt too guilty to even leave Ennoshita's hospital room, Yamaguchi sat on the corner, leaning on the wall, half asleep while Kageyama merely continued to poke his cheek trying to wake him up. Yachi already spilled her 5th cup of coffee and still trying, while Yaku patiently wait for it with a scowl on his face. The Leader and the 2nd in command are nowhere to be seen.

None of them act like professional, and he was running out of patience.

As if on cue, the door was opened, revealing Kuroo and Bokuto. The two were wearing their black suits, followed by Ennoshita in his crutches and Azumane behind him. Bokuto closed the door, and Kuroo stood at the end of the table, clearing his throat.

No one noticed.

"ATTENTION!!" the leader yelled, slamming his fist onto the table. Everyone snapped out of their daze, and this time Bokuto spoke up.

"They got us last night. You think it's alright, since no one died? HECK NO!!"

"You all need to remember your job; hunt them down! So what are you doing wasting your time here? We have places to investigate, people to ask, so many things! Researches, reports, have you done all those paperwork? NO!"

Sawamura decided to interrupt, "We apologize, Kuroo-san, Bokuto-san."

"Forgiven. Now listen: Ennoshita and Yamaguchi can stay here, since the two of you aren't in your best conditions. Before we start the research, please, the two of you, explain how do they look like."

"They wore jackets. Black jackets with golden cat ears, matching tails printed at the back with the kanji of the their gang name above it. At the front, there's also their symbol on the chest, and a number on the right side. They also wore black handkerchief to cover half of their face," Yamaguchi explained briefly.

"They have weapons. Guns and smoke bombs," Ennoshita added.

"One of them attacked you, right? What's the number?" Tanaka asked.

"One. He's short, but he's fast and very agile. He had a pair of sharp golden eyes that looked like a cat, that's what's really peculiar about him. Oh, and he had a message for you!"

"Ah, interesting. Tell me."

"Kuro, can't you find the lost kitten?"

Kuroo's eyes narrowed, before he looked around. "Anyone else? Anything?"

Sawamura saw Oikawa deep in his thought, and so he decided to ask, "Anything's wrong, Oikawa?"

"It's just... about the jacket. I think my roommate wore something like that last night, but it's number is 3."

"Then it's settled. Oikawa, Yaku, Sawamura, Bokuto, you'll investigate Oikawa's roommate. Azumane, Tanaka, Kageyama, and I will go to the station from last night. Yachi will stay here with Yamaguchi and Ennoshita to receive our reports and all. Is that clear?"

"Yes, sir!"

"Go."

Kuroo used to love mysteries. That's why he took his job.

Then again, it's a 'used to'.

The Golden Cat's message haunts him. Kitten? It sounds so freaking familiar.

"Alright, we're here," Azumane announced, and Kuroo looked up.

With regret, he admits that the graffiti is a masterpiece.

A large, golden cat, grinning with its shark-like teeth. Large, detailed red eyes, and the dog tag the cat bit. Not mentioning the flock of crows around the feline, it made her look majestic.

"Come on, White Crow. Catch this Golden Cat," Kageyama read outloud, "What was that supposed to mean? Are they trying to make fun of us?"

"I think it's more like a dare," Kuroo replied, "But I have to admit that they're skilled. There's no clue that they were here just a few hours ago."

'Thank you for the compliment,' a voice boomed out of nowhere. Azumane flinched, and the voice let out a small chuckle.

"Hidden speakers," Tanaka muttered, "They probably are watching us, too."

"Yeah, you're welcome," Kuroo replied sarcastically, pulling out his phone and turned the recorder on, "Now who are you?"

'Can't you guess, Kuroo Tetsurou?'

"I feel honoured, you know my name. How about you introduce yourself, Leader of The Golden Cats?"

'Interesting idea, but no. How's agent Ennoshita and Yamaguchi? They're alive, right?'

"Unfortunately for you, they're far from dead. May I call you Neko?"

'I don't mind, Tetsu-chan. And for your information, I never intend to kill them. What's the fun in that?'

"You're sick," Kuroo replied, shaking his head disapprovingly as he looked at his phone. It has been a while, yet he learned nothing about the gang, "So what's your goal?"

The voice laughed, 'Now, now, Tetsu-chan, that doesn't matter. I got some news to tell you.'

Kuroo raised an eyebrow.

'Many of you know our members. You just don't realize it. Watch your back, Kuroo-kun.'

Kuro dropped his phone.

"Oh, hell, no..."
