Ineffable | Five
Yamaguchi Tadashi hated night time. He hated it when the sky was black, when the air was cold and the town turned less and less busy. When people were mostly asleep, and when the evil ones crept through the darkness.
He wasn't scared. It wasn't out of fear, really. He merely despised the fact that the night is the time when people are truly in their weakest state. When danger could find the easiest way to harm them. The thought somehow made him despite the darkness.
Yet again, there's nothing much he could do. He could only tried his best to stop the evil from coming closer towards the innocents.
So, he was really happy when Kuroo chose him as a part of the White Crows. Even if he could only help a little, it's a good thing already that he could take part.
Although... the thought of facing The Golden Cats alone doesn't please him.
Yamaguchi stared at the now-empty street in front him. Just a minute ago, he swore, he saw a van with The Golden Cat symbol painted on it. Small, but he recognized it almost instantly.
Should he call someone now? It was already late, half an hour past midnight. Most of the Crows must have already been asleep. Who's more likely to be awake at this hour?
Kuroo is about 50-50 chance. But he's also the busiest among them all.
Bokuto? Yamaguchi is certain that Bokuto's awake, but he's not that reliable in a sneaky, silent ambush.
Tanaka already said he had things to do tonight, he's out of the list.
Sawamura... he's most probably still awake, but he's currently making a report, just like Oikawa.
Yaku has his nephews coming over, so he definitely can't go out.
Kageyama and Yachi can't be awake at this hour.
Well, that leaves Azumane and Ennoshita.
Yamaguchi pulled out his phone, and began to dial Azumane's number.
"Hey, Azumane-san, did I wake you up?"
'Not really. What is it, Yamaguchi?'
"Just then, I saw a van passing by... with The Golden Cats' symbol. I think it's just suspicious, and it might lead us to them somehow..."
'Where was that? Do you have the photo?'
"No, it was too fast. I'll ask Yachi-san tomorrow to help me make the sketch. Would you mind coming here to investigate with me?" Yamaguchi paused, "I know it sounds strange, but my guts told me they're somewhere near, and I can't face them alone."
'Alright, just send me your location. Ennoshita's with me, should I bring him, too?'
"If it's okay with him, please do. Thank you so much, Azumane-san."
'Don't mind, it's our job. Stay where you are, I'll be there soon.' Azumane ended the call and hung up.
And so, Yamaguchi waited.

The Golden Cats' members were currently enjoying themselves, after finishing their work for the night. Yuu and Ryuu were eating snacks, laughing at how Lev struggled to finish coloring the bottom side of the large cat the leader had drew.
Koushi, as the responsible mom, was currently tidying up, gathering their empty spray paint cans to be brought home and modified for later use.
Kenma was so focused adding the finishing detail, their gang's symbol at the bottom right of the graffiti.
"You're done yet, Kozu?" Keiji's voice suddenly interrupted.
"Just a bit more..." Kenma muttered, "Alright, there we go."
Kenma took a step back, and chuckled at his newest masterpiece. He could hear the click of a camera, as Keiji took a picture of it.
"Woah, Kozu-san! How can you keep your gloves clean like that? It's amazing!" Shouyou exclaimed so excitely, almost yelling. Kei sent him a glare, but the boy ignored him easily.
"Practice," Kenma replied, "We're leaving in fifteen minutes, okay?"
Choruses of agreements could be heard from the members, and Kenma smiled slightly. Hajime and Kei had already transferred the photo to their laptop, planning to upload it to their website as soon as possible.
"You want him to find you."
Kenma stayed silent at Keiji's statement, while Keiji brushed his fingers past the cat on the wall.
"It's not worth it, you know? We have what we need, why do you continue to cling onto that small strong of hope?"
"Because people's nature won't change that easily. I only want him to remember who I am, and I'll be waiting."
Keiji hummed in reply, tapping his feet slightly, "Who's the decoy for tonight?"
"Me."
"Again?" he asked, "That's too dangerous. Why not Shouyou or Lev or even me?"
"I enjoy the chase. Just let me, please?"
"... Fine," Keiji muttered, handing Kenma a spray paint can, "Just for precaution. It's smokes."
Kenma nodded, but before he could say anything else, he saw Pudding running towards him, letting out a soft 'meow'.
Keiji clicked his tongue in annoyance. "Intruders," he announced.
All the members quickly pulled up the black handkerchief around their neck, covering the lower half of their face. Kenma handed his cat to Hajime, while Kei had closed the laptop and shoved it into his bag. Ryu and Yuu rose from their seat, all their belongings already went inside their pockets. Koushi had his hands on his back, with a knife in his grasp.
"Stay safe, everyone. Go ahead, I'll take care of them."
The members all nodded, and ran off, while Kenma threw the spray paint can onto the 3 strangers he saw were running towards his group. The can exploded as a smoke bomb, while Kenma only walked closer.
"Surprised?" he asked, pulling out a gun and aimed it at the three strangers as he examined them.
The first one was an average-looking guy, with medium dark brown hair, kept parted near the middle, his eyebrows and eyes being the same colour, definitely a smart guy.
The second had freckles, and short brown hair with a flyaway piece of hair sticking up at the top. He was a scrawny guy, a bit timid as well.
And the last, the tallest one, he had dark brown eyes matching his long hair and his eyebrows. He also appeared to be growing a short scruff on his chin, his overall appearance makes him look slightly unapproachable, but just through his expression, Kenma could tell he wasn't a confident person.
The large guy pulled out a gun as well, followed by the first one. Kenma didn't falter, instead he only tilted his head, his golden eyes continued to scan through his enemy.
"Calm down, White Crows. It's just three against one."
"Drop your gun and raise your hands up," the first man demanded, but Kenma only chuckled, tilting his head.
"You don't scare me. Do you even have what it takes to pull the trigger?"
"Don't push me..." the first man growled, but Kenma saw the big guy panicked, and was about to pull the trigger of his own gun.
"No, Azumane-san, don't-..."
BANG!!
Kenma dodged, and fired his own weapon, the bullet embedded itself in the first man's leg.
"Ennoshita! You're alright?"
'Azumane Asahi, Ennoshita Chikara,' Kenma mused, recalling he list of names Yuu gave him days ago, 'Now who's the last one?'
Kenma prepared his gun once again, smirking slightly as he watched Ennoshita handing his gun to the freckled boy.
"Guess I'll be leaving!" Kenma cheered, as he turned and walked away, ears still up to listen to their panic.
"Yamaguchi, go! Get him! I'll take care of Ennoshita!"
"But Azumane-san, I-..."
"Hurry!"
'Yamaguchi. Ah, I see. It's that Tadashi guy Ryu told me. Seemed timid and shy, but actually he's very reliable and hard working.'
"Tadashi Yamaguchi!" Kenma yelled, looking back as he began to run, "Run! Come here and catch me!"
"Stop! I swear you're gonna spend the rest of your life in prison from today!"
Kenma laughed, as he looked back at the dark, empty streets in front of him.
"Cat has nine lives! Remember that!"
