Ineffable | Extra | Two
Tsukishima Kei wouldn't mind being called a loner. He was no good with socializing, since he has an abnormally blunt, sarcastic, antagonistic nature that he will never bother to hide.
Well, although his first friend was the one he met at college (pathetic, yes, he found the first person who can tolerate him when he was technically an adult), Yamaguchi Tadashi.
He's almost like Kei's opposite: really considerate, careful with his words, shy, and a bit of a nervous wreck almost all of the time. He was, despite that, able to deal with Kei's harsh statements. He managed to see the hidden meanings behind those cold words, those uncaring attitude, and truthfully, Kei was glad to have someone like that.
After graduation, though, the two of them went to start their own lives. It was as if they never knew each other, as if their 'best friend' never exists.
"Hey! Tsuki!"
Kei, unconsciously, stopped. He had already left the building, and he really thought he was safe. He didn't have a clue that Yamaguchi had been following him.
It only took a few seconds before Yamaguchi finally stood by his side.
"Damn, Tsuki," he panted, "You're fast."
Kei nodded, putting on his headphones and began to walk, away from the Bungalow. Yamaguchi followed him with a small, meaningful smile, and Kei couldn't help but to be bothered by this.
"I thought you were supposed to arrest me, Yamaguchi."
Yamaguchi grinned, "You didn't wear the gang's uniform, so I could pretend that you're just an old friend I met during mission!"
"... I only wore the jacket inside out."
"Sorry, Tsuki!" Yamaguchi put his gun back in its holster, "But you can't push me away now!"
Kei scoffed, "Funny. You'll lose your job, officer."
"Bet you I won't."
The taller male chuckled in reply, and scrolled through his playlist, "Working in military doesn't suit you," he commented.
Yamaguchi snickered, "Never thought I would have this job, either. But here I am, ignoring the order to arrest a whole gang."
"So what do you want to talk about?"
"Ah, you caught me. I'll keep it short then," Yamaguchi sighed, "Don't you think it was strange for us to lose contact of each other as soon as we finished college? I mean, I wouldn't expect a phone call everyday, we're talking about Tsukishima Kei here, but I never heard anything from you ever since then."
"What a speech."
"Tsuki, please."
"Lost my phone."
"Wait, what?"
Kei sighed, "I lost my phone. I bumped into a stranger and my phone was thrown to the street. Immediately destroyed by a large truck," he smirked at Yamaguchi's shocked expression, "Guess what happens next."
Yamaguchi raised an eyebrow, "... The stranger gave you a job as a compensation? Well... that's a crazy guess but-..."
"Close enough." The comment caused Yamaguchi to widen his eyes, while Kei gave him a look, "I said, that's close enough. You got one more chance."
"Hmm... He's someone from the gang?"
Kei nodded, letting out a huff. "Hajime-san. Iwaizumi, maybe you remember that more. I saw him in his gang uniform and so he decided to bring me to Kenma-san, because he said I looked like professional black mailer, and the bad news was I already saw his face."
Yamaguchi laughed.
For a while, the two didn't say a thing after that, all they did was walking by each other's side, lost in their own thoughts.
"... Tsuki, maybe if I-..."
"Don't." Kei turned slightly to look at Yamaguchi, "What happens, happens. No one can change that. There's no use saying sorry or thinking of 'what if's."
"True... May I ask something?"
"Ask away."
"Were we even friends?"
Kei's expression didn't change, "First of all, define 'friends', Yamaguchi."
"Uh..."
The megane smirked, "Do you really find titles important?"
Yamaguchi turned to look at the tall blonde. What was that supposed to mean?
"I enjoy your company, I trust you, I like spending my time with you. That's all I'll say."
Now he's getting confused.
"Tsuki, do you hate me for being a part of the military?"
"All I hate was your friend's action of trying to attack Kenma-san and killing Koushi instead."
"Yaku-san held some personal grudge towards groups like you. I don't blame him."
Kei nodded. He didn't enjoy these kind of talks. Those deaths are almost meaningless. And actually, when he shot Yaku, it was a spontaneous action. He was overwhelmed by the way Koushi was killed, since the grey-haired man could be called the kindest among them all.
The megane sneaked a glance at the shorter male. Yamaguchi was frowning deeply, and Kei knew that expression all too well.
"I'm coming over on Saturday. We're rewatching Jurassic Park," he announced with a small smirk on his face.
Yamaguchi gave him an excited grin in reply, but their joy didn't last long, as suddenly Lev's voice rang through Kei's headphone.
'Haiba Lev, reporting.' What an urgent tone. Kei stopped in his tracks, and pressed his headphones closer onto his ears, trying to focus.
'Regretfully, I have to announce that Kenma-san is no longer with us.'
Kei froze. Chills went down his spine, as he tried to process the information he had just received.
Impossible. Kenma is not weak. He wouldn't have died, not against that black-haired agent. Kenma wouldn't have lost.
From the headphone, he could hear Ryu's angry protest, but that is all. No one else said anything, most probably from shock. And seeing how it was Lev who announced it, and not Keiji or Hajime, Kei would assume that Kenma contacted the Haiba not long before his death, and possibly gave his title. It was very likely, considering how close they were despite their difference in status.
"Your instruction?" Kei asked, keeping his voice as calm as possible. Everyone must have felt shaken up, and he need to show them that the world is not ending.
'Rendezvous in 48 hours. Lev, out.'
Kei released the breath he didn't realize he was holding, and turned his attention to his companion, who was staring at him with an unreadable expression.
"I'm sorry about your leader," Yamaguchi finally spoke up.
Kei nodded, "Not your fault." He pulled out his phone, and began to scroll through the group messages, where almost everyone were freaking out, and Lev stayed as a silent reader.
"Tsuki... Are you alright?"
He huffed. "I will be, don't worry. See you later, Yamaguchi," Kei said hurriedly, before he quickened his pace, leaving the officer alone.
The megane felt a bit guilty. They had just finally met properly after so long, and now he walked away because he wouldn't show his weakness even must once.
Then again, he needed some time alone, just to sort his thoughts out, about all that happened.
His quick steps turned into a jog, and soon enough, he found himself running. His mind was in a mess, and it took him quite a while before he finally came back to his senses, and realize that he had ended up in the emptier part of the city.
"... Pathetic," he muttered, more to himself. He glanced at his phone, about to activate the GPS, when suddenly a thought crossed his mind.
About a week ago he moved to The Bungalow, in order to prepare for the whole plan. Now that it is over, what's next? He certainly couldn't go back just now, it's too risky. But where will he spend the night? Where will he live now? The gang will most likely be disbanded, and he will lost his family.
Family. Now that he thinks about it, does he still thinks of them as brothers? After all, Kei did recall the night of their fight, which ended up with him leaving the house, and has yet to come back.
Well... there's nothing wrong with trying...
Another sigh escaped his lips, as he scrolled through his contacts. It didn't take long before he found what he was looking for (he's definitely not a social person, his contacts barely reach 50), the one named 'Tsukishima Akiteru'. He hesitated for a few seconds, but decided to dial the number.
His call was answered almost instantly.
'K-Kei?! I-Is that r-really-...'
"Yeah," Kei replied, knowing how his brother must have felt at the moment, "Sorry for the sudden call. I'll just get to the point. Can I ask you a favor, Nii-chan?"
'U-Uh, o-of course...' Kei heard Akiteru inhaling deeply, 'What is it?'
"I think I'm a bit lost... Can you pick me up? I'll stay over for the night, if it's alright with you
'...Eh?'
"Yes or no?" Kei inwardly cringed at his own tone. Hell, old habits really die hard, he hadn't talked to any other Tsukishima for years, and yet here he is, acting so rude towards his own brother. The only one who has yet to give up on him.
'Kei... you sounded upset... What's wrong?'
"... Everything," Kei admitted, "Everything's wrong. Sorry for troubling you. After all, I'm just-..."
'Don't you dare start saying that you are useless or anything like that, Kei.' The tone was strict, it has been a while since he heard it, but it was kinda... reassuring. 'I'll remind you once again that you will never be a burden to me, Kei. I know you probably haven't forgive me, but you can always rely on me. Now send me your location and wait there.'
"... Thank you, Nii-chan."
'Anytime.'

Extra #2, done. I don't even know what the hell was the point of my writing, but oh well.
I definitely want to write Lev's extra, but before that, should write any other? Or should we stick with only 3 extras before the sequel?
Please help me to decide.
