Ineffable | Extra | Three

Haiba Lev used to follow orders without questioning them. Why? Because he trusts his leader so much, he never doubted him.

He believed in Kenma.

But this time, his guts told him not to escape, unlike what the plan says. He felt like he shouldn't run away now. And so, he didn't.

After the incident, almost 3 in the morning, Lev found himself walking towards a certain address.

For the last few hours, he had stayed behind in the Bungalow, making sure that all his friends went home safely. He was still a bit shaken up after Kenma's death, but he tried his best to hide it. It's not everyday someone called their close friend to hear their last words. And that aside, at times like this the gang will be vulnerable against others. He needed to make sure that The Golden Cats won't fall apart, that's his job now.

As Kenma said, 'Lev, my throne is yours.' Doesn't that mean everything is now his responsibility? Whatever it is, Lev wanted to prove himself. He wouldn't let the organization crumbles.

When Lev reached his destination, he was a bit surprised. The address led him to a café, the one Kenma used to work at.

Taking out a deep breath, he pushed the door open and walked in, straight towards the counter.

"Good night, sir! How can I help you?" the man in front of him asked. Lev noticed the way his hair was dyed blonde, how he had piercings even on his tongue, and of course, his name tag.

Terushima Yuuji. Bingo.

"Sorry for being so sudden, Terushima-san. My name is Haiba Lev and I am a friend of Kenma's. I would like to talk to you in private."

"Kenma? As in, Kozume Kenma?" the man asked, raising an eyebrow.

Lev nodded. "Yes. I'll wait until your shift ends, because I'm quite sure this will take a while."

"Oh, no need to do that!" Terushima glanced at the clock for a second, befor turning back to Lev, "I'm currently on my extra shift, I can leave whenever. Wait a minute, just let me tell my boss first. I'll meet you outside," he hurriedly replied, untying his apron as he quickly entered the door behind him, leaving Lev a little startled at the rush.

Fifteen minutes later, the two of them had already seated themselves in Terushima's kitchen, with a large bottle of coke in the middle of the table, and the blond with a large glass of it.

"Well, I don't have much food here, haven't gone shopping in a while. Anyways, we'll be fine here, no one will ever come to visit me because they wouldn't want to, and I even don't mind if you spend the night in this place."

Lev merely nodded, not saying much words ever since the two left the café. He looked around, trying to take in as much information as he can.

From how disarranged the apartment is, Lev really thinks that Terushima isn't that much of a guy, just an ordinary café worker who watched movies every weekend and went to clubs at least twice a month for one night stands.

"Hey, do you smoke?" Lev turned, to find Terushima already holding a lighter in one hand, while his other one offered him a pack of cigarettes.

"No, but go ahead," Lev replied curtly. How can Kenma trusts this man?!

The blond lit up the cigarette, putting it in between his lips and looked outside for a second, before his attention went back to his guest.

"Alright, so what do you want to talk about?" Terushima asked, blowing out a puff of smoke.

Lev sighed, "I assume you already know about The Golden Cats?"

Terushima gave him a nod, and Lev continued, "A few hours ago, the military found our base, and a fight broke out. Excluding Kenma, one of our members was killed, and another is currently in a critical condition, already at the hospital."

"... I see. And Kozume?"

Lev pulled out his phone, "I have a habit of recording all my calls with the gang, so here it is, my last conversation with him," the half-russian put the device on the table and pressed 'play'.

The first thing Terushima could hear was an explosion from afar, followed by a faint scream. And then Lev's voice, calling 'Kenma-san!'. Terushima also recognized the sound of the wind, so loud, and he could only imagine a free fall.

The next, was Kenma's voice, a bit raspy but stil firm, still holding his usual authoritative aura. 'Lev, my throne is yours,' he simply said. It was just a recording, but Terushima already felt uneasy at it.

Lev's panicked exclamation came after that, 'Wait, what? Kenma-san, are you-...' He didn't get to finish his words, because Kenma already gave another statement. 'I'm sorry. Neko, out,' were the last words said in the conversation, before there was a loud splash, and the recording ended.

"Our helicopter was missing, and the signal was lost after the splash. Your conclusion?"

Terushima crossed his arms, "... The most logical theory would be that he fell and drowned, but I know Kozume wouldn't be that reckless."

"That's the only flaw in the theory, I agree," Lev confirmed, "However, at that time he was with his nemesis. Kuroo Tetsurou, his used-to-be best friend. I don't know much of the details, but as far as I know, Kenma-san was forgotten by him, and that's the beginning of this whole conflict."

Terushima pulled out his own phone, quicky flipping through his gallery before showing Lev a picture of a man with bedhead black hair, his cat-like eyes looked a bit sleepy with faint bags under them, and he had a frown on his face. "Him?"

"... Yeah, that's Kuroo Tetsurou. How did you know?"

"A few days before Kozume took a break from work, this man came to our café. And I noticed his change in attitude, that's why I took a picture of him, for future references."

That's quite smart, Lev gotta admit.

"Anyways, Kenma-san texted me not long before his disappearance. He called you 'catnip keeper', and gave me a set of numbers. Did you know what does that mean?" Lev asked, showing the last text he received from Kenma. '1-61-71-01-1. Treats for the felines. Catnip keeper: Terushima Yuuji.'

"... I think I do. Wait, I'll just bring that stuff here."

"Take the left turn, and... stop," Lev commanded. "Here we are. The Bungalow, the biggest of our bases."

Terushima's jaws fell agape at the sight of the large building. "This?! This place is yours?! How can you-..."

"Long story short, there was a mass murder here. No one claimed the building out of fear, eventually Kenma-san managed to buy the place with a good price. This building is legally his," Lev walked out of the car, before unlocking the gate and motioned Terushima to get the car inside. The blond did so, and it doesn't take long before the two started walking upstairs, towards the meeting room.

"So... What are you planning to do?"

Lev only grunted, fastening his pace as he kept his gaze down. Only a little while before he had to meet everyone else, to tell them all about the whole conflict.

"Lev!"

The Haiba immediately turned his head, and froze.

There he stood, all in his pride and glory. The guardian deity of The Golden Cats. Nishinoya Yuu.

His pale skin and chapped lips made it almost impossible not to pity him. His eyes looked bright, even though the exhaustion could be clearly seen. A scarf wrapped around his neck with his jacket unzipped, revealing the pale blue shirt he wore from the hospital, a match with his trousers. He was wearing a really old shoes, but aside from that all, he had a wide grin on his face.

"Yuu?"

"The one and the only! Anyways, thanks a lot, Lev!" he said, approaching the taller male.

"... What for?"

"You're the one who brought me to the hospital, right? The nurses told me. 'Tall, silver-haired half with sharp green eyes.' No one else fitted that description," the shorter man explained, patting Lev's back.

"There's no need to thank me. We're comrades."

"Well, most people wouldn't even bother to check if I'm alive or not." Yuu offered his hand to Terushima, and the two exchanged brief introductions, "If you're wondering, I sneaked out from the hospital. I just want to thank you personally before the meeting starts. The others' already here."

Lev nodded curtly, before he continued his way towards the meeting room.

The rest of the walk was spent in silence, and not long after hey reached their destination. The short male walked in, and immediately become the center of attention in the room.

Kiyoko looked up from her novel, Kei took off his headphones, Ryuunosuke and Shouyou ended their conversation. Keiji put down his camera and Hajime's fingers left Pudding's thick fur.

Yuu crossed his arms, and gave them all a look. "Alright, this is geeting annoying," he stated, referring to the gloomy aura inside the place, "Guys, I know it has been hard, but please don't be like this. Koushi's a good friend of ours, and I'm sure he wouldn't want us to mourn this much over his death."

A few hummed in reply and so Yuu continued, doing his usual job of lightening the mood inside the gang, "You're lucky Kenma-san hasn't arrived yet. What will he say if he saw you all being this depressed?"

"He'll say nothing, Yuu," Lev snapped, slamming the door shut. Terushima flinched, but kept his composure, while the Haiba scoffed, "Kenma-san's dead."

Yuu 's gaze immediately went to Lev. A few seconds passed, before he shook it off. "That's not funny."

Lev glared. Was it supposed to be anyways? He wouldn't think of that, ever. Kenma was more than just his superior. Kenma was a friend, a mentor, a... family. Like his parents.

Like Alisa.

"I wish it was."

Seeing everyone's gloom expression once again, realization hit the number 8. Yuu's eyes went wide as he clutched his chest that was starting to hurt from the shock. He started shaking his head in denial, his hoarse voice clearly heard through the dead-silent room.

"... No... It can't be... You're joking... right?"

Terushima looked away from the heartbreaking sight. No one wanted this. Everyone was obviously still in a state of shock at the news. They don't need Yuu to make things worse by keep repeating it, keep reminding them. They had enough already.

"...You're lying, aren't you? That's impossible."

"Yuu, just accept it," Lev was losing his own patience, and Yuu's attitude only made it worse.

"NO! KENMA WOULDN'T HAVE DIED, HE'S STRONGER THAN THAT!! YOU KNOW NOTHING, HAIBA!!"

At the accusation, the half-Russian felt himself snap.

To be continued in Extra: Four.

So, this may or may not be a kind of Valentine gift XD Anyone got a date?

I'll probably stop on 5 extras, hopefully.

Anyways. I got the sequel ready, I'll post the prologue probably a week from now and the first chapter a few days later?

In the meantime, what do you think of a Q&A? To me and the characters listed on the chapter before the prologue. If you're interested, just ask away, here or on that chapter. If the ammount of questions hit my quota, I'll post the answers.

Sorry it was kinda rushed, but it's better than nothing? If you don't mind, give me your vote and drop a comment. I need things to light up my mood.

Happy Valentine! Have a good love life, be it fictional or not!
