🚢Fresh Off The Boat🚢

(Moved this one over from a different book, figured there was no need for a completely separate book for this one)

"War is a rich man's game. The young are tricked into discarding their lives under the veil of love for their home country, when in reality they are fighting for nothing but the wealth of greedy men. It is something I wish I'd realized a long time ago...

Maybe things will be different here."

"Want to go play darts?"

Name: Mikhail Savalievich

Age: 32

Backstory: Mikhail grew up in Oymyakon, a very secluded village near Siberia where temperatures are consistently below zero and very few people can settle. He lived a simple but uneducated life, doing typical rural work to survive with his mother and two siblings, his father being out of the picture due to an unfortunate death. His mother did her to best to raise her children with what was available, electricity not even being a thing in their home until he was ten. His young life was hard, and eventually he was faced with adulthood steadily approaching. With very few options for work, Mikhail turned to the military for a career, becoming a very dominant Russian militant. He fought in the first Chechan war, consistently a front line fighter that was an effective, but resentful killer. This was not what he wanted. Hell, he wanted to be an astronaut growing up. However, corruption was a problem within his squadron- one day at their camp, he and nine fellow soldiers were ambushed by Ichkerian forces who shouldn't have had even a hint where they were located. Seven were killed, three escaped, including Mikhail. One of them ratted them out for money, and he knew he wasn't the traitor. Both of the other surviving soldiers moved to New York, and Mikhail vowed to find out who it was. However, he needed money. He departed the military and borrowed money from a dangerous loan shark known as Vasil to get him back on his feet, then found work as a freight worker, frequenting trips to the US and back, not intending on paying back the money he borrowed. His next trip was to New York, and he planned on staying there, somewhat for revenge, and somewhat for a fresh start... His life in Russia had become messy. However, life in New York wasn't going to be as clean as he imagined. Sooner or later, he'd fall back into a dirty lifestyle to survive.

Personality: Mikhail is a kind soul at heart, but hardships have forced him to adopt a sort of "cold foreigner" type of face. He's very loyal to those he's close to- although he's not very close to anybody- and takes betrayal very seriously. He does suffer from mild trauma but has it mostly under wraps, learning how to control his emotions thanks to his military experience. He doesn't mind dirty work as long as it pays well, and is willing to do anything for those he considers family. Once you're close to him, he's very easy to get along with, and although there can be a slight language barrier issue at times, he does his best to get around it and come off as charismatic.

Notes: Mikhail's backstory may adapt or grow some depending on how the storyline develops, and more details about him will be revealed through the story.

This story takes place in 2008.

SI: You and a Russian man, Mikhail, have been internet friends for years. He's told you some of his story and his dream of coming to the US- under the guise of wealth and prosperity, not revenge- and you eventually offered for him to stay at your place if he ever decides to move, which one day he does. He informs you of this and tells you to pick him up at a loading dock in the Bronx, where he will depart from a cargo ship and set foot in a new country. You show up and wait several hours, a cargo ship eventually taking its position in the bay, Mikhail eventually making his way down the steps and onto new land. You instantly recognize him- who wouldn't with that silver hair and lilac eyes? "Hello, Y/N!" It seems pretty clear that he knew English, but didn't practice it much. His accent was thick as morning fog. "It's so good to finally meet you! I can't tell you how much I appreciate this, I promise you won't regret this. We'll do great things together, you and me! So... Let's go for a drive, no? Show me around the new country?" You..?

SII: You're part of a large organized Russian crime group located in New York, and you've been in need of more hands for small jobs that needed to get done. Payment extortions, intimidations, that sort of things. Someone amongst your ranks suggest a man named Mikhail Savalievich, a small-time criminal fresh off the boat that was cheap and didn't mind getting his hands dirty. You decide to call him in to speak with him. Within the hour he shows up at your office in a laundromat in the Bronx, dressed in a nice fancy all-black suit, definitely looking the part of a criminal. "Hello, I'm Mikhail Savalievich. I believe you wanted to speak to me?" His accent was very thick and a little hard to understand, but luckily you picked up what he said just fine. You..?

SIII: I can't even think of a third scenario, so let's make this one a write-in one.
