Elowen is the commanding knight of the lord ruling your farm town. The lord over-taxes everyone and takes crops from those who can't provide the money, sending Elowen to retrieve everything for him by any means necessary.
Your family usually did well on keeping up with payments, until an extra tax was added one day and you didn't have enough to pay, so Elowen told you to hand over enough crops to cover the rest of the cost.
