Backstory: Malady was the leader of a forest where many pokemon lived. She found three Rockruff pups in that forest and decided to take them in. When they grew up, they wanted to join the pack of Lycanrocs that lived in the forest. She said no because the pack constantly fought each other. But they snuck off anyways. They managed to fix the pack by splitting them into three packs, so Malady let them stay there. She continued to rule the forest, though most pokemon that traveled there assumed the packs ruled it. One day she found an injured Ninetales, Coriander, and she healed him up. He stayed there after that, and she fell in love with him. When she admitted her love, Coriander said he loved her back. But he didn't really love her, and only became mates with her to rule the forest. He told them where he was from, a bonding ceremony was necessary to become mates. So on the night of their bonding, he killed her, and the pokemon of the forest accepted his leadership without complaint. Her spirit was heartbroken. Around 700 years later in the spirit realm she was in, a Theivul saw her and befriended her. He took her to his boss, a Crobat spirit. He gave her the power to take other's souls in exchange for something. A dealmaker, in other words. Since Coriander was old, Malady thought this would be the perfect chance to get her revenge. She saw an Espeon who wanted nothing more than for his family to not have to live in fear of the rumored White Ninetales said to live in the forest. So she told him that for the mere price of his soul, the Ninetales would die. He obliged, and Malady took his soul. Sure enough, Coriander died from the fire the Espeon started. The pokemon who lived in the forest had to flee, but the Espeon's family was safe. The Lycanroc packs were still around and also fled the forest. But the leader of the Sun Pack was unable to flee. He was trying to help his grandchild, a feeble pup named Bracken, flee. The leader got weaker and eventually fainted, but Bracken tried to help him. Malady saw this as a perfect chance. She told the pup there was nothing he could do to help his grandfather, and he had to escape the burning forest. But she also told him that she could give him a great life, to go down in history as a great leader. All he had to do was give her his soul. Bracken, being a young and naive pup, agreed to her terms. She continued to guide Bracken and guided him to become the leader of the Sun Pack by killing his father. She made him into a bloodthirsty, malicious, feared leader. He wasn't really malicious and didn't want to do the things Malady told him to do, but when he didn't obey, she reminded him she had his soul and could destroy him if he didn't. Bracken wasn't one of those brave noble pokemon who'd give their life for the greater good, so he obeyed. Once he became a feared leader, she left him to his own devices. She went to go manipulate more pokemon in their dreams.
