INDIANA JONES
xl. IDIOT OF A BROTHER

╚══════════════════╝

PRESENT
STORYBROOKE

"SOME OF US KNEW him as Archie, others as Jiminy," Snow White sadly said to the people of Storybrooke as they all crowded around Archie Hopper's tombstone, "but we all knew him as a true friend."

Each person was adorned in the darkest clothing they could find in his or her wardrobe. Indiana Jones adjusted the black coat she wore while petting Pongo. She sat on the leaf-covered ground with her legs crossed Indian style as Pongo rested his head on her thigh.

She frowned when she heard Pongo whimpering. Indiana was never fond of dogs until she befriended Red. Now, she felt safer when she was with a canine.

"And though he may not be gone, he will always live on inside of us..." Snow trailed off, her voice beginning to crack. "...Reminding us to be our best selves... to do the right thing, to always fight for what we believe in." Snow sniffled and wiped her face, attempting to sound somewhat more positive. "So we shouldn't think of today as goodbye, just as a way of saying... Archie, we'll be listening."

Indiana couldn't help but feel sympathetic for Snow White as she retreated to David. She never liked Archie too much in the Enchanted Forest, for she already heard enough hope speeches from her two closest friends. However, his death still saddened her. Perhaps that was the Anna of her coming out.

Slowly standing back up, Indiana tightened her grip on Pongo's leash and walked away from the scene.

PAST
THE ENCHANTED FOREST

Indiana Jones took another swig of her rum, feeling it burn as it rushed down her throat. She had stopped to get a drink before meeting up with Snow White later. She rolled her eyes as she listening to a random man speak loudly to a group of other men.

"There's a ravishing beast roaming within the kingdom. It's eyes burn with fire," the man announced. "They call it the Yaoguai. No man has been able to kill it, but we will. There's room on our wagon. Now, who's gonna join us?"

The sound of other men cheering and shouting that they'll join echoed throughout Indiana's ears. She looked around the room, inspecting each man when she noticed a girl sitting alone with a book open in front of her. The girl was staring at the group in a longing manner.

Making her way toward the girl, Indiana took a seat at the table and smiled. "Looking for an adventure?" she greeted in question. The brunette jumped up slightly at the teen's presence. "What's your name?"

"Belle," she introduced.

"Hm, alright, Belle," Indiana began to reply. She motioned to the crowd not too far away from them. "Why don't you sign up?"

The woman chuckled and cleared her throat. "I, um... I've always dreamt of heroics, but... I think it's safer I stick to my books," Belle declared, pointing at the object in front of her. "They're the only adventures I know that have happy endings."

Taking another gulp, Indiana shrugged. "Well, I don't know too much about happy endings, but maybe this one will have one, too," Indiana responded.

"Yeah, well, I doubt it," Belle admitted. "Last time I faced a beast, you know, it didn't end well."

"Don't I know it," Indiana mumbled, thinking of the Dark One. "But what exactly are you talking about?"

"Men, follow me!" the same man from before exclaimed. "The Yaoguai awaits!" The crowd strolled out of the pub.

"Get on that wagon, Belle!" Indiana exclaimed. "Go! Take a chance. What's the worst that could happen?"

Belle paused before smiling at Indiana. She shut her book. "Thank you," Belle gratefully told the bandit. She laughed excitedly as she packed her belongings. Belle stood up and was about to leave when she paused and turned around. "I never caught your name."

"That's because I never threw it," Indiana retorted with a mischievous smirk. "I'm Indiana Jones."

Belle's eyes widened. "Wait, as in—?"

"Yes, as in Indiana Jones," she interrupted. "Now, get out of here! And don't come back without the Yaoguai's head." As Belle rushed out of the pub, Indiana took another gulp of her rum before sighing."I've been talking to Snow too much."

PRESENT
STORYBROOKE

Indiana Jones was walking around Storybrooke as she attempted to clear her head when she heard some sort of commotion coming from inside the library. She knew that Belle French was in the works of getting the Storybrooke library all fixed up for the public, but the place typically was rather quiet if you excluded the soft music that Belle played on occasion.

Curiously, the brunette stalked toward the building. The windows were still covered with planks of wood and random scraps of newspaper, so she couldn't simply just peer in through the glass. As Indiana made her way closer to the doors, she noticed the doors fly open. A man with hair as black as night and leather clothing went pacing out.

The man glanced back and forth in search of witnesses when he noticed Indiana Jones staring at him with wide eyes. This... was Killian Jones.

"K-Killian?" Indiana called out in genuine alarm. She couldn't believe her eyes. What the hell was her brother doing in Storybrooke? How could he have possibly gotten here? Was Cora here, as well?

The pirate merely flashed her a grin and saluted her before running off.

Rather than running after him, Indiana's eyes wandered over to the library. Why was he in there? Her thoughts immediately went to Belle. Could it be possible that her brother had murdered the Dark One's lover? There was only one way to find out.

Indiana Jones quickly rushed toward the library. "Belle? Belle, are you in here?" Indiana called out. She looked around before her eyes stopped on the elevator doors. "Belle? You in there?"

She banged on the doors a few times before hitting the button that would open them. As the elevator opened, she noticed Belle leaning against the back wall with a distressed facial expression.

"Um, what's up?" Indiana awkwardly greeted Belle. The brunette immediately ran toward the bandit, hugging her tightly.

"Thank you for coming. Where—Where is he?" Belle breathed. Indiana opened her mouth to reply, but she was interrupted by Belle's stuttering. "I-I-I... P-Pirate... He tr-tried to kill me."

Indiana placed her hands on Belle's shoulders with raised eyebrows. "Wait, my brother tried to kill you?" Indiana demanded in surprise. "I... I'm so sorry."

Belle furrowed her eyebrows together. "Are you feeling alright, Indiana? You're usually not this sympathetic to me... or anyone, really," Belle responded as she calmed herself down slowly.

Indiana shrugged. "Personality changes... It's a side effect of all the curses I've been under," Indiana brushed off. She sighed. "If he would've killed you, I would've been after his ass."

"R-Right, of course," Belle stammered. "It's just... why me? Why do you care so much?"

Indiana shrugged again. "Despite how much I loathe your boyfriend, Rumplestiltskin was the only friend I had for awhile," Indiana breathed as Rumplestiltskin went rushing into the library.

"Belle!" he called. Belle gasped and ran toward him. They hugged each other. "You've nothing to fear. I'm here now." He glanced over at Indiana. "Thank you."

Indiana merely nodded before exiting the library.

Indiana Jones was heading back to her apartment when her phone began to ring. After the whole scenario with Regina and the curse breaking, Indiana felt more comfortable if she lived on her own. Though it made Henry sad, he had to remind himself that she was still technically his nanny.

Shoving her hand into her coat pocket, Indiana Jones pulled out the strange device (which she despised to a certain amount) and pressed the green button. Before she could greet the caller, the person on the other end of the line greeted her first.

"Hey, it's Belle. I know we just saw each other, but I was wondering..." Belle trailed off. "Do you know anything about knots?"

Indiana raised an eyebrow. "I'll be there in a moment."

After hanging up and making her way to the library for the second time that day, Indiana strolled in to notice Belle French sitting around a bunch of books. Indiana assumed that Belle had been cleaning up when she called the brunette. Nonetheless, Belle smiled at her and handed her a small object. It was a knot composed of rope.

Inspecting it, Indiana narrowed her eyes at it. "This is called a Monkey's Fist. It's a type of knot named from it's appearance because it looks similar to a small, bunched fist," Indiana recited from her memory of whatever Killian had taught her when she was younger. "Where did you find this?"

"Under some of my books," Belle easily answered before grinning excitedly.

"Why are you smiling at me like that? I don't like that," Indiana opinionated.

"Indiana, don't you see what this means?" Belle questioned the teenager, taking the knot from her and holding it up. "Hook came here on his ship."

PAST
THE ENCHANTED FOREST

"What's a lass like yourself doing here all alone?"

Indiana looked up slightly, spotting a man wearing all black with matching dark hair and eyes that reminded her of the ocean. If she didn't know any better, she would've thought he was the male version of her—appearance-wise.

"What's an old man like yourself doing here at a pub?" Indiana retorted. "Don't you have some kind of medication to be taking or whatever you elderly do?"

The man took a seat across from her where Belle originally had been sitting. He placed a hand over his heart. "Ouch, that really hurt," he sarcastically told her. Indiana rolled her eyes at his action. "You're Indiana Jones, right?"

"What gave it away?" Indiana queried acerbically.

"Well, it most definitely wasn't the nose," the man joked. "Those posters got it all wrong, but that's just my opinion."

Indiana grinned. "You're telling me! I've been trying to get my student to realize that for ages, but she won't listen!" she exclaimed in amusement.

"Student?" he repeated in surprise. "Aren't you a bit young to be a mentor?"

She shrugged. "I was distracted from my original quest. For now, I've chosen to teach this poor girl how to defend herself," Indiana explained.

"And what was this quest you speak of?" the man wondered.

Indiana pressed her lips together. "I'm on the hunt for a man called Killian Jones," Indiana explained. "Maybe you've heard of him?"

She looked at the man with a glimmer of hope in her eyes. Something about him was familiar, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Nonetheless, the man shook his head. "I'm afraid I can't say," he replied sympathetically.

"Hm, fair enough," Indiana stated. "So what can I call you?"

The man flashed her a charming smile, one that look like hers all too much. She didn't give it much attention though. "Captain Hook," he greeted.

Indiana arched an eyebrow. "Captain Hook?" she wondered curiously. "So you're a sailor... Hm. I suppose now you're going to say you have a hand for a hook?" When she noticed the look he gave her, Indiana gasped. "Now way. Prove it!"

The Captain merely raised his hand, waving at her with the hook that replaced his left hand.

"That's so cool," Indiana gushed. "I have a feeling we'll be great friends."

"We would," the man admitted. "But I'm afraid this will be the last you see of me. I have a quest of my own I must fulfill. I won't say a lot, but it involves getting my vengeance on a Crocodile and forgiveness from my baby sister."

Indiana arched an eyebrow. "Sounds fun," she commented. "You'll have to tell me everything the next time we find each other."

"If we find each other," he corrected. "For now, I'm just a lad in a bar."

"And I'm just a... lass in a bar," Indiana retorted with a small smile. "May we meet again."

That was the last Killian Jones saw his sister.

PRESENT
STORYBROOKE

"Maybe this isn't a good idea. It's not safe for you to be here, Belle," Indiana told her as they walked together at the docks. "Besides, what are we even looking for? If my brother had sailed here on his ship, then we'd see a ship. There's nothing here but some boats and the stench of fish."

"Shh, listen," Belle interrupted. She held her finger up over her lips. Indiana shut her mouth and gave her a weird look, but listened nonetheless. Over the wind, the sound of something creaking was heard. They looked up. "Look, seagulls."

"It looks like they're flying around something," Indiana noted as one of the seagulls perched itself on something in the air. It was invisible, making Indiana realize something. "Wait... are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

Belle watched as Indiana walked over and grabbed some sand from the small wooden post on the docks. She threw it in the direction of where the seagulls flew around. The shape of stairs appeared in the ground. Belle gasped.

"Found you," Indiana sang happily.

Belle followed behind her as Indiana carefully put her foot on the invisible step. They continued to do so until they walked through an invisible barrier. Soon enough, Belle and Indiana were standing on Captain Hook's ship.

"The Jolly Roger," Indiana breathed. "I haven't seen this thing in ages."

"You've been here before?" Belle wondered. Indiana shot her a look, causing Belle to nod rapidly. "Oh, right. Siblings. I forget. You're so much more pleasant than your brother, you know."

Indiana snorted. "That's the first time I've heard anyone call me pleasant," Indiana admitted as they started to look around. "Now, we're just going to find this shawl and get out of here. I don't plan on sticking around to see my brother."

The whole reason why Belle wanted to go onto the ship was because Rumplestiltskin's son's shawl was stolen, most likely by Captain Hook. Belle wanted to get it back, so Indiana decided to aid her. They started by going below deck.

Belle opened a door, where they heard a muffled voice speak unintelligible words. "Uh... H-Hello?" Belle stuttered, glancing back at Indiana and walking closer to the sound. She walked until she opened a small door that would allow one to go even lower.

"Belle!" a familiar voice exclaimed. "Oh, thank God!"

Indiana walked forward and looked down before letting out a high-pitched scream. Sitting down there, tied up, was Dr. Archibald Hopper. Belle smacked her hand over Indiana's mouth. "Archie!" Belle exclaimed with a gasp. "You're... You—You're—You're okay!?"

"Yes, I-I-I am," Archie confirmed. "I-I—can—can you, uh..."

Indiana placed a hand over her racing heart, rather shocked that Archie was alive. She took a step back and grabbed a random sword. She leaned down and cut the rope that held his hands together.

"Go," Belle demanded as Archie jumped onto the level she and Indiana stood on. "Find Mr. Gold. Tell him we're here. Bring him back to the ship."

"Wait. You're not going with him?" Indiana queried. Suddenly, footsteps were heard. "Never mind that. Go."

"Go! There's no time to argue!" Belle whispered in exclamation.

Suddenly, Indiana's phone vibrated in her pocket. She glanced down at it, noticing that it was Henry calling. Guilt overrode her. She knew she should've been with the boy as he mourned Archie's death, but she was too busy with this whole situation at hand. She pressed decline, letting it go to voicemail.

"Hey, it's Indiana! Leave a message or I probably won't get back to you! Actually, I probably won't get back to you either way—Henry, put down my whip!"

As Belle wandered into the Captain's Quarters, she pulled out a small box. "Hurry up," Indiana whispered as Belle searched the shelves for a key. Belle nodded. She finally found one and stuck it into the lock, twisting it. She opened it, only to reveal a number of gold doubloons.

"Looking for this?" a new voice wondered.

All of the suspense and anticipation had gotten to Indiana, for she let out a screech as she yelled, "Fuck!" The two turned around to see Captain Killian Jones standing at the doorway with the shawl in his hands.

"Uh, that doesn't belong to you," Belle stated, staring at the object.

"Oh, it does now," Killian replied.

"You know, I'm not sure that's how it works, Cap," Indiana stammered, glancing down at Belle's gun. It was on the table, but if she was quick, she could grab it. She moved to get it, but Killian did, too. He made it there first.

"Ah, ah, ah," Killian sang with a chuckle as he held up the gun curiously. "My dearest Belle, you should've stayed with your books. And you, baby sister, should've stayed out of it. Real life can get so..." He paused to hold the gun up to Belle's head, "messy."

"If you even think about pressing that trigger, I won't hesitate to rip your kidneys out of your body and feed them to Pongo," Indiana snarled, "big brother."

"I'm not afraid of you. Your sister, maybe, but not you. And I'm not leaving without that," Belle declared, pointing at the shawl.

"Well, I admire your loyalty. But helping Rumplestiltskin? I'm afraid you're fighting a lost cause," Killian told them as he placed the shawl on the table.

"He needs that shawl to find his son," Belle argued.

"And what makes you think his son wants to be found? Hm? I'm doing that boy a favor," Killian wondered as he observed the gun in his hand. "What makes you think you know anything about finding people, hm, Indiana?"

"You're making it really hard for me to not want to bash your face in," Indiana snapped.

"Have you not hurt Rumple enough?" Belle questioned.

He held his Hook up. "I've hurt him?"

"You stole his wife," Belle argued.

"You stole his wife?" Indiana wondered. "What is it with you and getting in between people's relationships, hm?"

"Tell me something, luv," Killian began, walking closer to Belle and Indiana. "If a woman comes to you and... begs you to take her away, is that theft?"

"W-Why would she leave him?" Belle stuttered.

"Because he was a coward," Killian answered, glancing at Indiana with a frown as he thought of the Dark One, then Brennan Jones, their father. "And because she loved me." He stepped away to look at the shawl. "I should have burned this the moment I acquired it."

"Why didn't you?" Indiana wondered.

"Because she made it," Killian answered bitterly.

"I'm sorry she died, but... vengeance?" Belle asked. "Vengeance won't bring her back."

"Died?" Killian repeated, walking back to them. "Like it was some kind of accident... Is that what he told you?" He scoffed, causing Indiana to raise her eyebrows. This was the first time she had heard this entire story.

"He—well, yeah, he didn't say," Belle stuttered.

"No, of course not," Killian replied. "Of course he'd leave out the most important detail of her passing."

"And, uh... what would that be?" Indiana wondered.

With a whisper, Killian revealed, "He killed her." He used the gun to point at Belle's heart. "He ripped out her heart, and he crushed it right in front of me."

Belle shook her head. "No."

"Oh, yes," Killian countered.

"No!"

"Yes," Killian snapped with the same soft voice. He pressed the gun below Belle's head, tilting it back. "He will do anything... anything... to hold onto his power. Why do you think anyone who's ever gotten close to him," he walked away from Belle, moving the gun from her face, "has either run away or been killed?" He turned back around as Belle and Indiana stood close to the door. He cocked the gun. "Now what makes you think you're any different? Tell me something, darling. Why would you want to fight for a man like that?"

"Because she still sees good in him," Indiana angrily said, feeling slightly attacked. She couldn't help but feel as though Killian was indirectly talking about her and Peter Pan. "Because she believes he's changed. Because his damned heart is true. And yours? Yours is rotten."

With that, Indiana reached up and pushed an object that hung from above. It hit Killian, pushing him back where Archie had been held captive. Belle grabbed the shawl and the two ran out.

They sprinted together as they arrived on the main deck. When they were about to head toward the stairs to get off the ship, Captain Hook suddenly jumped in front of them. "How did you...?" Belle trailed off.

"Oh, I know this ship like the back of my..." He held up his hook. "Well, you know."

"How is it that we're even remotely related? You're not even funny," Indiana muttered.

"I'd suggest you give that back to me now," Killian declared, not hearing his sister's comment.

"Or what?" a new voice wondered. Rumplestiltskin walked forward as they turned around.

"Ah," Killian greeted. "You look different in this world, Crocodile."

"Crocodile? I prefer Alligator," Indiana muttered again.

"Like the coward I met so long ago, limp and all," Killian continued.

"And yet, you still can't kill me," Rumplestiltskin retorted.

"Let's have it, Dark One. What magic are you gonna hide behind today?" Killian taunted.

"Oh, not magic," Rumplestiltskin corrected before raising his cane and hitting Killian as hard as he could. The pirate flew back as he continued to hit him with the cane.

Indiana's eyes widened. "Hey! Rumple! Hey, let's go," Belle demanded while rushing over to him. "Let's go!"

"No, not yet, Belle," Rumplestiltskin refused. Indiana shut her eyes tightly, listening to her brother's yelling. Though she was just arguing with him, she couldn't help but feel remorseful.

"This... This is what you came for," Belle argued, holding out the shawl. "This is what's gonna get you back to Bae."

Indiana's ears perked up. "Bae?" she repeated with a low voice, suddenly realizing this. She raised her voice. "You're going after Baelfire?"

"Ah, you're wasting your breath, luv," Killian told Belle. "He can't resist. He has to prove that he's not a coward.

Rumplestiltskin turned to Belle. "You may want to turn away, Belle. This isn't gonna be pretty," Rumplestiltskin warned. Then, he continued to smack Killian with his cane.

"Do it!" Killian weakly yelled. "Do it! Kill me! He has to show you how powerful he is!"

"Rumple, no! This is what he wants!" Belle exclaimed, her voice breaking. Rumplestiltskin continued to hit the pirate. "...To destroy every bit of good in you!"

"Rip my heart out," Killian taunted. "Kill me like you did Milah, and then I'll finally be reunited with her."

Rumplestiltskin dropped his cane, looking back at Belle. "He has to die, Belle," he declared. He jumped onto Killian, preparing to rip out the pirate's heart.

Indiana's senses finally came back to her. Something in her snapped and she was suddenly angry. No—she was pissed. "If you don't get your grimy, little hands off my idiot of a brother, I will rip out your throat and crunch your veins with my fucking teeth!" Indiana growled while walking forward.

Belle, Killian, and even Rumplestiltskin felt their blood run cold. None of them had ever seen Indiana as furious as she was in that moment, which was surprising, since she was just hating her brother's guts moments ago.

Rumplestiltskin glanced between Belle's look of fear and Indiana's eyes that had a look of psychoticism in them. Then, he looked down at Killian. "You take your little ship and sail until you fall off the edge of the world," Rumplestiltskin snarled, lightly smacking his face. "I never want to see you again."

Then, he crawled off of the pirate and allowed Belle to drag him off, but not before feeling chills run down his back as Indiana glared at him with a fire dancing in her eyes.

Indiana observed as Killian breathed heavily while sitting up. He looked back and smirked at her. "You'll crunch his veins with your teeth, hm?" he wondered in amusement, wiping the blood off of his face with his sleeve.

Rolling her eyes, Indiana walked forward and smacked the back of his head. "You're such an idiot."

Knocking on the front door of Snow White's shared apartment, Indiana could hear Pongo barking and whimpering. The door creaked as Emma pulled it open, revealing Indiana.

"Sorry I've been MIA, but I've been a bit busy. Don't scream," Indiana warned her before stepping forward, revealing Dr. Archie Hopper.

"Archie," Emma breathed with wide eyes.

"Hi."

"W-What happened?" Emma wondered in shock.

"It was Cora. She kidnapped me," Archie explained.

"A-Archie?" Henry stuttered.

"Henry. Oh!" Archie exclaimed as the boy hugged him. "Oh, it's all right. I'm fine. I'm fine."

Emma looked back at Henry. "Henry, we were wrong. Regina didn't do it," Emma realized.

Henry grinned. "I knew it!" he exclaimed, hugging Indiana. "Maybe we should let her know."

"Yeah," Emma agreed. "But something tells me either way, we're gonna pay the price."

Indiana shrugged and said, "Then you better get your coupons."
