Break-up?

We had reached the final year. We got many memories with us, our batch, our quarrels, our habit of bunking classes, our group selfies. Every second was sweet and every moment was memorable. Imminent to Chaitra, there's nothing new, because she never leaves me. But as a gratuity in these four years life I got Shreya.

Lastly, the worst time in our life advanced. Interviews, we all have to attend them, to settle in life, to preserve a family, for a prosperous life. Everyone will do their worst in their first interview. So did me.

Not to mention, Chaitra, Shreya and I were rich enough to provide jobs to others. But like the good rich kids in movies and stories we too decided to settle on our own. We three got selected for multi-national companies, not at all strange, I guess.

After all these a marriage of Chaitra's friend named Rithika was fixed. She was a good friend of us too and she invited. On that day I still remember, I saw Shreya in a saree. Looking at her in that violet color saree designed with small red and white crystals I fell in love with her once more. We both sat beside one another with our hands together watching marriage rituals.

"So our marriage is also going in this way right? Before everyone you will make a promise that you won't leave me ever and also take care of me till the end" she said, twisting her fingers with mine.

I smiled and said "No, I won't. You only should take care of me. I'm too lazy"

She laughed and kicked me.

"We will take a house in New Zealand. Only you and me, a life with you, my heart dances everytime I think about it." I said

"New Zealand! Couldn't we settle here, I mean in India?"

"It's my dream," I pleaded. She became silent. I too didn't recap the stuff as I was not in the mood of arguing.

That marriage was last gathering of our batch. From the next day the last stage of friendship started, i.e. strangers. We rarely spoke to each other. Up to then we shared a single life, now it became parts. Chaitra and I moved to Delhi. Shreya joined a company in Bangalore. Although we were in touch with her every day, I missed her.

In the next one month Shreya introduced me to her parents. They were nice to me. Though I felt nervous to talk with her dad at first I overcame that subsequently.

Shreya had independence in her house just as like Chaitra's in her own house. No one bothers too much about their life. Both are self-standing girls. They won't ask for opinions they would just inform that they took a decision.

"A topic was uneasy to me much these days when I was chatting with Shreya" I said to Chaitra, when we were returning from our offices.

Though our working places were different Chaitra had to pass through our office to reach our flat. So, I would join her.

"Is anything serious?"

"She doesn't want to settle in New Zealand." I said.

"Why?"

"I was also not particular about her reasons. She just dislikes that."

"Discuss it as soon as possible. That will be good for both of you." she suggested.

Latter as she advised I went to Bangalore. I was waiting at a hotel she told me to do. We met after several months and she was still striking.

"Will you please understand? It's our dream baby. Chaitra too love to live there" I requested her.

"Sorry Varun, if you are not ready to settle in India this won't work out any longer." She said. She didn't even try to look at me and just strode out. I was looking at the way she was going like a child.

"What had just happened? I was in shock. She didn't argue. She didn't try to convince me. She had just left."

I returned to Delhi. "Did she agree? Or did you agree to stay in India? Say something man." Chaitra unceasingly interrogated me ever since I landed in the airport.

I walked silently to our car. All the way she had been asking the same questions. We had reached our flat, still she didn't stop.

When I was about step inside she said "Did she leave you?" looking at me with an unsure expression.

I stood where I was and said "yes".

The grief that I was adjusting since I started in Bangalore abruptly came into my eyes with that answer. I cried like a kid at the door and she took me inside.

"Did she tell you anything" Chaitra asked pleasingly.

I jiggled.

"What did she say?" She asked, more pleasantly.

"She left."

"What!" she exclaimed.

"She just left."

"She had left without saying anything?"

"She said that it won't work out."

"Is she crazy?" Chaitra almost cried out.

She took her phone and tried to call Shreya, but Shreya didn't lift her call. She consoled me. I didn't show up to office for the next couple of weeks. I lost interest in everything. May be that was exactly what love failure means.

Her memories haunted me. Chaitra also took leave for a week. Ironically, she didn't disturb me. She used to cook and sit with me. She accompanied me with silence. As days conceded, one night she too wept.

Latter, one fine day, I woke up early and left for the office. I asked my uncle to talk with my boss to change my camp to New Zealand. He did and Chaitra too put a similar proposal. She dislikes asking her dad. Her proposal was accepted after a week.

At last we both reached to our dream place and settled. We took a flat which was comfortable to reach our workplaces. I wouldn't just say, that the life just went-off. But there was a part I missed like I never did.
